Hi all, I am using NT and Optimus and am happy with both. But I want to try out a modified strategy I have with a much smaller position size, 1000 per lot instead of 100,000 with the futures market. Also I prefer to trade live albeit very small size it helps me be realistic.
I have read different views (leaning to the negative) of NT with the MBT data feed so I was going to try the MC DT with MBT. Has anyone used this MB Trading MC DT combination and how are your fills and platform stability?
No offence intended but I do want the views of the "Live" users and not demo.
Thanks in advance for any insight its appreciated......
I have been live on NT through MB trading for a few months. While it is a short period of time I have never had an issue....not one. While I have heard the lamentations of some others their experience and mine have been quite different. My judgement on that was that the queer deal must be due to some other variable like harware, isp, or faulty human interface. I will say though that I use the MB spot forex feed not the CME micro. Best of luck. DB

Thanks wildman, I've opened a Live account with MBT and am now just waiting until my funding clears so I'll know soon enough in the live environment how things work. But I am expecting no major issues. I am thankful for you taking the time to answer...

I run MBT data on NT 6.5 (not 7 yet , sorry) and the only issue I have consistently is the bars or bar that forms during rollover tends to spike beyond levels price actually was traded at . Ommitting that time period will remedy that but try it out first .

I actually spoke with NT on an issue like that this morning. The guy asked what version I was on and said that 7 should hav ethat cleared up. I use NT7 btw. We determined that data was hanging somewhere. When I changed the chart timefram from 3 min to 60 min and back to 3 min all the data populated properly. I think that issue was a "here" issue not an NT issue. DB
Agreed. I had exactly the same issue with 5 minute bars on a demo account. I pinged the MBT forum, and after a slow reply, the problem cleared up. I have not seen this problem for some time. I changed nothing on my end, so I am guessing they cleaned up their rollover algorithm.
I thought this was a MC DT + MBT feed discussion??? :P talk about thread derail.
I have a live account and demo account with MB Trading. I use both everyday with Multicharts DT and feel that overall it is satisfactory but there are certainly some quirks. Quirks which I would like to be fixed, I am testing the 7.1 release today.
1) Due to MB Trading's 1/10th of a pip quotes the DOM is frustratingly not useful because it makes the DOM 10 lines apart at best (EUR/USD 1 pip spread). Unless you have a really big monitor or a monitor which can rotate and change aspect (like my Dell 2407wfp) you will find it very difficult to use the DOM.
2) PnL for non-USD pairs cannot report accurate profit and loss. My fav pair EUR/JPY cannot ever tell me the correct PnL. If you use Multicharts DT with MBT you cannot use Navigator to log in separately. My workaround for this is to use MBT Web (the silverlight web interface). It reports the correct PnL, positions and etc correctly to me.
3) "DAY" order types in MC DT do not work and get rejected. You can change the type to "GTC" which does work. The only annoying thing about this is that MC DT defaults to "DAY" orders (I at least haven't worked out where to change this default behaviour, so I claim ignorance if this is possible). If I forget to change this setting, my orders get rejected and I wonder WTF is going on until I read the server logs.
4) If you change your orders through the chart trading, MC DT will report the order as submitted. However there is a delay between submitting an order and the order servers actually accepting an order. This isn't an MC DT problem, it is simply how MBT works. It would be nice however if MC DT could report to you that a submitted order has been accepted. Again, I solve this issue by having MBT Web open and checking the orderbook.
If Multicharts fixed these bugs I would actually buy a lifetime license just so I don't have to work around these issues.
I know Multicharts is branded as an awesome automated trading tool, but I actually find its charting interface and chart trading to be the most pleasant discretionary trading interface ever.
Despite these issues I continue to use MC DT because I don't like NT as much. Oh and one other thing, I hope develop a nice "white background" colour scheme at some point. At the moment the entire program feels like the black background is what suits. Even if you change the background colour to white the other interface elements don't feel right.

thank you for this very helpful post and info. I too have considered using MCDT instead of NT for one thing it would save my $60 a month. But I really like the NT chart trader (I don't use the DOM) and I suppose I worry because MBDT is free and will this mean it is not as "good" or "stable" as the full version. Sort of "you get what you pay for" idea. Since I trade live and not demo this concerns me though it's probably a "me" problem not trusting MC:-)
Anyways these points are great helps as I finally settle on a combination..........
