Well - I have just written my first strategy using Renko bars and as it turns seems to be one of the best, something is gotta to be wrong.

Has anyone got any feedback on Renko bars and things to watch out for? I guess I will forward test for a while and see if I can spot any difficulties.

Cheers.

Please start a new thread.

Briefly: Renko bars do not backtest correctly due to incorrect open/close prices. Backtest results are false. Work around is to use multiple dataseries, the renko is 'data2' and a reliable entry bar series for executions like a range or tick bar for 'data1'.

1) Stop changing things. No new indicators, charts, or methods. Be consistent with what is in front of you first.
2) Start a journal and post to it daily with the trades you made to show your strengths and weaknesses.
3) Set goals for yourself to reach daily. Make them about how you trade, not how much money you make.
4) Accept responsibility for your actions. Stop looking elsewhere to explain away poor performance.

Dan, start your new thread per BM and I'll give you some insights on why renko backtesting is VERY positively biased and some tips/tricks on workarounds (if possible at all).

Is Renko really cool??

In reading some of the posts on futures.io (formerly BMT), Aslan appears to sum it up:

Quoting
Everyone trys Renko, and is certain the grail has been uncovered, only to loss when they go live. If you can find a strat that works with BetterRenko, then it should match when you go live. At least that is the theory.

So my question is why the emphasis on Renko by MC?

If you mean why are they asking for input on wicked renko charts, its because they wanted to better understand why users wanted wicks on renko bars since it isn't a traditional renko brick at that point.

I believe you could sum up the answer easily - so that it will backtest properly, while maintaining the body of the candle in true renko form.

This should be carried to a new topic, as this thread is about cool stuff in mc7, and wicked renko is not in there
