I am wondering if someone could tell me something about their experience with MC and firewalls? For example, does anyone have an opinion on which one is the best.

I have used Comodo for a long time now, but there is a known conflict between MC and Comodo where the MC team have to make a fix to remove this issue.

I have tried ZoneAlarm, but after reading that it sends encrypted information undisclosed to their servers even if one select it to alert when going out on the internet I have skipped it.

Thanks,
Laurus

Which OS are you using ?
If it's W7, do you really need another FW than the built-in FW ?

Thank you for your reply Sam.

Yes, it is W7 and to be honest about the built-in I do not know. I just have a couple of impressions. I have been using Comodo for a long time and have been doing so because of the good security reviews and that I have good control on what programs are doing. I like to have some overview over the amount of activity and what the different programs are doing.

My impression with the built-in is that I then just hand over everything over to it, meaning going blind, plus I am not sure if it is good enough.

Windows 7 firewall is more than fine. You can also get free, Microsoft Security Essentials, if you don't consider yourself an extremely advanced user and you browse the internet or download files on your trading PC. MSE is a virus/malware scanner.

You don't need anything else, and the above combination is cleaner and faster than any third party add-on.

Thank you very much for your definite answers Mike

I am seriously going to consider this then, and most likely dear try it, but I'll have to give it the night . The reason for being reluctant and skeptical in the first place is that I have worked some years as a systems administrator, and now I realize that it might have made me suffer from security hysteria. Funny actually.

Thanks,
Laurus

@Laurus12 I installed Comodo internet security on my new trading pc and indeed it was not a good idea.
Because it slowed down the internal communication between the tsserver and the GUI of Multicharts.

Therefore I agree with Bigmikes advice to install windows firewall and maybe a better virus scanner. During trading I switch off that virus scanner because I will not download any unknown things.

After that my chart loading performance with MC is better than ever just great.
