Thank you for creating a thread about MultiCharts lag.

I run MultiCharts with eSignal data on Win7x64. Typically there are one or two workspaces with two symbols each, on a variety of timeframes. Normally the program sits inactive and is mostly off-screen; workspaces and symbols are changed infrequently.

On a busy morning like today, 8/5, MultiCharts lagged a lot. (After running overnight, it was 30 minutes behind this morning.) I restarted and pruned the workspaces, but in a few minutes it was 5 min. behind again.

At this point I don't know whether to focus on stripping down the workspaces, getting a different data vendor, or switching to a lighter-weight charting program. Really, all the program has to do is run a couple studies and stay current. I am hoping to hear someone had the same problem with MultiCharts, but that it was solved by switching data vendors.

Thank you in advance.

@GoSlow, how fast is your computer?

I have MultiCharts open with 5 charts each for: ES, TF, YM, NQ, CL and Euro, including tick charts, and experienced zero slow down this morning.

Thanks, Big Mike.

My machine is fast, but other programs are running. (Core2 Quad, 2.4 GHz, 8 GB mem.) Possibly, stopping other programs would free up mem for file caching.

I'm charting 6E and ES, with charts from multiple ticks to ~60 min. Also, I have an Easy script on many charts that could soak cycles. But, the lag continued after that was removed.

I think this is going to be solved by either swapping cpu & increasing memory (i7 + 16 GB or more) or switching data feeds.

At this point, I'm hoping to know how changing data feeds has affected other people.

Thanks.

Mike, could you ask at Peter if he could post any example how to avoid slippage on market order without using limit order?

You can come to our Live Chat so we could look at the slowness issue next time it reproduces. It can sometimes be caused by some programs the intercept packets, such as virus scanners or firewalls.

I haven't used Esignal in years, but it did handle extreme volatility and speed poorly back then.... You definitely have other other issues too, but I just thought I'd mention it...

Try Rithmic Data Feed. It's the best in my opinion.

Does Rithmic offer Forex trading?

Their website sucks! Hopefully it isnt an indication as to how their service is...
