I'm new to the MT4 world and i would like to code some indicators.
I need to code complex symbols: if I have AAPL and SPY, i would like to be able to plot the candle chart (or at least a line chart) of AAPL/SPY as well as other classic indicators like RSI, MA, DMI and so on.
Is that possible in MT4? And, is there any limitation about the complexity of symbols?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I'm just curious which broker do provide mt4 for stocks and etf trading? I'm not sure if mt4 is even certified on NYSE or NASDAQ as trading platform. IMHO MT4 is a beast from dark side of the "trading" ) i mean retail forex )
The thread is old but there is plenty of mis-information regarding MT4 and support of synthetic instruments, so I think even a late reply is worth it.
First we need to distinguish between the ways synthetic instruments can be calculated in the different platforms. While you can do anything in MT4 using NinjaTrader for it is the smarter choice as it is better prepared for solving this task. While it's possible to calculate synthetics of any complexity in MT4 in NT it is much more easy. You can simply load your symbols and setup a formula. That's the first thing.
A second issue, and here we get into deep waters, is history. Calculating the current value is nice but what is current value without context, i.e. history? So a platform needs functionality to let a user update the history of synthetics and to fill gaps. Here is where NinjaTrader sucks and MT4 shines.
If there is still interest I'll provide more details on how to implement such an approach on MT4. It will not end with the well-known offline charts. MT4 can "pseudo-online" chart synthetic instruments with a twist. Even trading of synthetics is possible.
PS: Forget about MT5. Neither does calculation of synthetics work reliably nor is there any functionality to update history in a programmatic way. MT5 on all imaginable levels is for clue-less people (translate: losers) .
Hi,
I have not yet found anything satisfactory to work with synthetic instruments like xauchf on mt4, where I have loads of ea and besp8ke indies. would you mind sharing your solution?
