Perl PDL

At the last time i trained my brain with perl. I am in love with perl. Perl plays a nice role in the finance sector. So i switched my stuff from matlab, python and co ... completly to perl ...

Perl is nice and has a great repo (cpan). You can easy connect to apache and friends. You can do easy MVC (model view controll) with perl and php. If you wish, you can embed to c++/c# or java as an nice scripting / data language.

If you like java and tomcat, you can use JWt, Java Web Toolkit and perl.

Perl has a nice collection of books and good tutorials. You can easy adapt from matlab or r with the PDL.

You can easy scrap content or data with perl or use Finance::Quote. You can charting with GD or use Perl easy with flash.

With DBI you can easy access databases and execute your statements ...

If you need indicators, there is a modul for TA-Lib or use Math::Business. IMO Perl is nice for "light" HFT ...
All in one Perl is a powerful machine learning language and easy to learn and use ...

Best regards

The key is your knowledge:

Yes -- called geniustrader

No -- but there are a lot of interface, so you can build your own.

You can do the same thinks as C#, Java, Matlab ...

For example there are moduls:

Finance::InteractiveBrokers::TWS
PFIX (FIX protocol)

and a lot of charting capabilities ...

@mike

maybe this topic goes in this direction -> https://futures.io/platforms-indicators/4186-new-open-source-trading-platform-10.html

I've use Perl (with geniustrader, IB CPAN modules, and a zillion of other modules) a lot, for years and years, for distributed backtesting, creating bots, storing realtime data on SQL databases, ...
At the end, I found that it was not very efficient, compared to a good trading/coding platform like NT.

I am far away from realtime and i do not follow ninjatrader. Perl as language is for me "my allInone solution".
I can scrape option data and stock data. Filter out what i want and good is. Ninja, that is right, you have no limits.
C# is powerful. You can do the same.

my lines of code in perl are smaller and faster as my lines of code in c#.
