These driving dogs have gained world wide fame out of NZ.
It was originally done to illustrate that you do not need to pay $'000's for a dog - even dogs from a shelter are very intelligent, loving and can be trained.
All these dogs (that were taught to drive) were randomly picked from the dogs held at the Auckland SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) - like a dog shelter but for all animals.
The were trained over 8 weeks by a team that specialises in training animals for movies and TV commercials - they did work for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies.
You can't take dogs off the street and expect them to get really good at this.
You got to start off with telling/showing them what the 'P' means. And the 'R' and
the 'D'. The professionals on the other hand already know all those fundamentals
so they start at a higher level of competence.

The first is about parallel parking, which even people have a hard time with.

Image below is of first dog to fly in space.
Laika (Russian: Лайка, meaning "Barker"; c. 1954 – November 3, 1957) was a Soviet space dog that became the first animal to orbit the Earth – as well as the first animal to die in orbit.
As little was known about the impact of spaceflight on living creatures at the time of Laika's mission, and the technology to de-orbit had not yet been developed, there was no expectation of Laika's survival. ( from wikipedia)
