Just got off the phone with IB. They confirmed that US-based clients with US-based accounts can trade the K200M (Kospi 200 Mini Futures Contract).

Hi everyone,

I am interested in getting some input from people trading the KOSPI 200 Mini futures contract. I have a day job and want a liquid futures contract to do some evening trading to practice

3) I just opened an account with interactive brokers to trade this instrument (haven't funded yet). The commissions are around $1.62 per round trip (if I calculated this correctly). That's almost the value of one tick. Is there any cheaper alternative, or is this pretty cheap compared to brokerages in Korea?

.

thats a good contract to practice on if rt is only $1.62 and a tick is about the same cuz you sure cant make much do its small contract size.

You are correct. I just verified this with IB. They will call me back and see if I can trade this instrument.

Yesterday's trading volume was 30,350 contracts!

Did they tell you how long it will be in test phase?

IB basically told me they have forwarded my question to another department and don't know when the question will be answered, or if at all. They rudely told me on the phone that they have "more pressing matters to deal with"...
@Big Mike are there any IB reps on this site that we can ask questions to? That would be quite helpful.

Interactive Brokers take much higher commission then local brokers. For example commission comparison - IB vs Hyundai Futures:

Hyundai takes 0.015 % for stock futures,IB takes 0.04 %

KTB futures Hyundai 2900 IB 4600 KRW

Kospi 200 Hyundai 0.00145 % while IB takes ... three times more 0.004%

KRX is only ,,weak'' point of IB - on all futures they take x3 times more then others.Trading via local brokers like NH Futures/Hyundai Futures/Samsung Futures will save you 70 % of your money. And if you also sell naked options... you will save 90 % of margin
