I learned a very important lesson about a week ago. I recently started trading S&P E-minis and I put allot of work into creating a Trading Plan, Trading Journal, configuring NT, etc… Without any warnings my PC had issues starting up. It was unable to read system files so booting up wasn’t happening. I tried everything to get back into my PC to save all the work I had done. I gave up after about 2 hours so I started reloading Windows XP. After reloading Windows XP, I did a scan of my hard drive searching for documents and images of all my trading stuff. Once I recovered the documents they were in a different format which means they were unusable. I lost all my file(s).

I now do daily backups of specific file(s) plus I run the Backup utility in Windows XP to capture(at the moment) all the information I would need to do a restore and hopefully be up and running in about 1 hour.

Lesson well learned.

Well after having lived with Mozy for a while, I hated it.

I have a powerhouse of a system and Mozy killed it performance wise. Complete trash of a program.

I switched to Memopal, and have not looked back. It's cheaper and far, far faster. I cannot even begin to compare how much faster. With memopal, I don't even know it's running whereas Mozy made my system nearly unusable.

Memopal - Online Backup - Memopal

It's $3 bucks a month (paid annually) if you use the above link and tell them you switched from Mozy.

Memopal also lets you backup up to 10 PC's plus has unlimited file revisioning, meaning you can go back and access any of the prior versions of any file. You can also share files to friends, like if you have a big archive file you want to give to a buddy, they can download it straight from a secure web portal via Memopal since you've already uploaded it once, and save your bandwidth and their time.

In addition, Memopal automatically queues up recently modified files to the top of the queue, so for instance as I work with my Ninja strategies and indicators, they get top priority (for revisioning).

Highly recommended!

Mike

I appreciate your guys feedbacks.

Since the event of my data loss I was able to narrow down the program that was causing me the issues.

Every weekend (either Sat or Sun) I run WindowsXP Backup utility. I select the complete "C" drive and select "System State" and backup this information to my 2nd drive. "System State" is a must during the backup. When performing the Restore select your backup file and select "System State". This will put your Operating system back in business in about 8 minutes.

I actually tested this part of the restore out to make sure it would do that it says it would do and it did.

I also burn a DVD of the "System State" and the file(s) of importance.

I'm not to keen about backing up my file(s) onto someone elses servers. It all sounds attractive to a certain point. Maybe I'll check into one of those backups but I do like what Big Mike says about Memopal queues up recently modified files to the top of the queue. That's a really cool feature.

I just checked out memopal, I'm going to sign up. I was going to sign up for moxy but memopal seems better. I've been previously backing up to USB drive & important files to DVD+RW and keeping it at work (offsite backup). Memopal seems a lot easier and costs less than the price of a USB drive.

Good idea Mike.

i am planning to do a daily or weekly back of ninja trader.
All indicator strategy and so on...

is there a way to do it a complet full automatic by a software?

I find a problem of amount od data stored in database by history, many gb so

is better save file on serivices like memopal or do a backup by software, like acronis on external hard drive ?

Is it possible mix them? databse on external hs and memopal for stratedy and indicator?

hi,
i use mozy + it does save all ninja-files as indicators, strats, templates, workspaces (all small files so to say) automaticly every day if you want this -- it saves / uploads only files that are new or have been changed.
mozy is really heavy when it starts to work - so i put the backuppoint to after marketclose.
mike recomends memopal cause of this.
full database-backups i do only once a month or so ... on external HD.
thats my way.

Good to know it works well. I'm going to get memopal for the speed but also because I want to install it on all our computers. We have 5. With memopal you can do this with one account.

Great. but you do this before you have selected each single files (if yes which of them are to be copied?), or just you push the default back up button on ninja?
