Hi guys,

It is my absolute pleasure to announce that this June our community is celebrating an amazing 10-years!

I am extremely proud of what our community (of over 100k traders) has accomplished over the years -- we are always eager to help one another with a positive attitude (and none of the rudeness). It is something we have all worked hard together to accomplish, and every member of the community should be proud.

What makes our community so special is the personal stake that our Elite Members have. It's just one of their many investments within their trading portfolio

In addition, our community has industry leading vendors that make some outstanding sponsors, and they have made their generosity and commitment to fellow traders known once again with their contributions to our special 10-year anniversary event.

In the coming days, we will be announcing an impressive list of over $18,000 of prizes to be awarded to community members. We will also be announcing an impressive list of special events and even more special webinars (in a new and exciting format). Stay tuned for that!

Tip

This year, the prizes will be awarded based on participation in this very thread. See my next post for more information on how to participate and be eligible to win over $18,000 in prizes!

What to do to be eligible to win the prizes?

To be eligible to win some of the over $18,000 in prizes, we ask that you participate in this thread by sharing your story.

Specifically, we are asking for you to make a post sharing your experience with our community, futures io. Tell us when you joined, why you joined, what you found -- tell us if you've been helped, tell us if it's improved your trading experience.

Share with us what you like or dislike about the community the most -- tell us what keeps you coming back, tell us what separates futures io from other communities.

Within this post, you can also feel free to tell us about yourself, about your own trading, about your journey -- what has worked, what hasn't, what you've learned and what you still are trying to master. Share with us what makes you feel like a member of an extended family here on futures io.

In a few days, I will be posting the schedule of events, and a full list of all the prizes (over $18,000 this year!). That information will be shared here in this thread. We'll also be posting on social media, so it would be smart for you to click the buttons on the top left of our site and follow us on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter!

Last, I want to mention that we each owe a great thanks to all of the members here within the community that make it what it is today. I had a vision 10 years ago that we could accomplish something great, but since then it has grown larger than I could have imagined (back then, it was simply "Big Mike Trading" -- remember guys??) and I am so proud of how it has turned out and what our community stands for.

When you make a post in this thread sharing your experience, please note that you are giving your permission for futures io to use your post, in part or in full, for future marketing material -- and we may or may not mention your community member name in doing so. See the next paragraph for why...

We welcome all feedback, positive or otherwise, and we love to hear members sharing their stories and their trading journeys. We want to share these stories with others, because we know that most have gone down similar paths -- and it's a bumpy road. It's always of great comfort to know you are not alone, and to find help and advice from those that have gone before you. Our entire community is built upon participation, and we often hear from members who are reluctant to share -- and we always encourage them to take the leap, make the post, ask for help, and start participating. Their trading will thank them!

Thank you to everyone!

Mike

I am particularly excited about a new upcoming webinar format that we are calling "Battlestations". But this time, we aren't sharing pictures of trading desks -- instead, we are putting two traders head-to-head and naming a topic for them to debate, in a live webinar format.

We'll make the schedule known soon...

Thanks Mike. Your support for traders is highly appreciated

We all share a common element in our journey: the struggle.. and helping each other out as a community, learning and growing together can have a true impact on one's character.

For me the FIO community or as it was called back in the day Big Mike Trading have given a lot of guidance and I would not be nearly as good of a trader without it.

Also big thanks for all the members for making it the place that it is today.

Cheers

Mike, well done for reaching 10 years and maintaiing a strong community. The reason I joined 3 years ago was because of the warm reception and helpful advice I received in my early posts. It was clear early on that the vibe on this site was different. At first, I was only really interested in the elite indicators section. I wasnt all that interested in reading other peoples journals because in my mind I had this trading thing figured out and no one was going to influence me and tell me how to trade. Until that is, I started reading other peoples journals and realised what an utter noob I was (recently graduated from 'utter noob' to 'noob').

I have learned a lot from the traders on this site. What has been most useful is the knowledge that the struggle is shared by many, and that this burden can be lightened by participating with like-minded traders. It is like a group therapy session and I don't mean that in a flippant way. I read the advice from other traders on this site and also try to contribute by sharing my own experience. This is what makes futures.io different to other communities out there on the interweb. People here are genuine.

If you asked me to pick my top 3 most influential characters on this site then without any hesitation I would say Mike, Tigertrader and Inletcap. The combined wisdom of these three is quite extraordinary.

I am looking forward to the head-to-head debates that you have planned. That will be a lot of fun.

Well done Mike for keeping this place going, and a salute to all the other regulars on here. Its a great community and I am glad to be part of it.

When I first came across Futures.io it was Big Mike's Trading.
I was ONLY searching for indicators for Ensign Software and Ninjatrader.
I was pleasantly surprised by the community and the abundant resources available on Futures.io:
Indicators, answered questions, webinars, forum posts about trading and strategy development.
I immediately signed up and later became an elite member.

I had been trading since 1990 but the progress was slow at best.
The growth I have experienced by being a part of Futures.io is amazing.
The value to new traders is the best value available anywhere.

Over the years I've gone from a visitor to an elite member and lately as a Market Wizard.
My status changes with my activity and busyness with my job (I still run my own business).

I've never found a resource that even comes close to Futures.io.
The availability of indicators is second to none.
The community of traders is the best I have ever experienced.
When I need help with any trading topic, I find Futures.io the best place to find answers.
To pick out one or two users that are my favorites is difficult because there have been so many over the years.
Many of the members here are true guru's in the industry.

Futures.io is my one-stop location for all that I need:
Indicators, Webinars (unmatched anywhere for training), Questions, Journals.
I have even become experienced enough to answer a few questions others ask.
BTW, through the forums, I have even learned to write Ninjascript and create my own indicators, bar types, and strategies.
AWESOME!!!

One of the best things about Futures.io is the moderation.
Many other forums 'moderate' the community to extinction or no moderation at all.
On Futures.io, I can browse the forums knowing if things get 'questionable' they will be immediately resolved by moderation.
I am not continually concerned about abuse on the forum or that some scammer will be lurking on the forums.
Vendors are registered with the site and moderated ethically but still allowed to contribute on the forums.

It is great to be a part of the greatest trading community on the internet.
It is not only the best trading site but also provides community participation in charity work.
The 2018 Charity Fundraiser for Ecuador was amazing, it made me feel as if I was there handing out gifts.

Thanks to Big Mike for providing a great venue for so many years.

Hello readers, I would like to start with a fact that I am not successful trader and you should continue reading only if you do not care about that and want to read story from eastern Europe country.

I wonder how and why I started with trading, I was quite a different man back then, because markets change you a lot IMHO. My father died when I was about to finish high school and I felt lost. Eventually I went to university, but after a couple of years I left and tried a variety of jobs. I refused to become real programmer at that time, seeing it as too much effort. I rather went with journalism and e-commerce - at that time I felt talking about something is the same as doing it. At first it went well, I was young and I slowly started to like life again, but with year 2008 it changed.
My projects didn't went too well, I was doing everything myself. There was no market for it in my region and I was not a very good salesman. Companies went bankrupt a lot, owners drank themselves to death before paying me and I made so little money at average. I ended in a situation when I had no money at all, I made barely 350 euro each month at average. I spent my days being depressed and paralyzed. My girlfriend shared my struggle, working after school in low paying jobs. Eventually she told me that she loves me, but will break up with me if something doesn't change.
And then she pointed out that I am in dead end and that I should find new job and give it a chance. That made me think and eventually i accepted my defeat. I let my face to be lost and before all my fiends I admitted that I am a failure. It was painful and shameful, but I needed that.
Good thing (at least in my view) is that I never went into any kind of debt. When i had no money for food I didn't eat and that was that. So I didn't carry any debt baggage to my new life. I found a job and eventually I regained my discipline and tenacity, I became useful part of company, but it led nowhere, no career, no useful skills after that, not even average wage. But for my girlfriend it was good enough and became my wife.
So it is at that time when I decided to explore the markets, probably as a solution to my money problems and to acquire some useful skills. I saved some money and went for it, only to find that I am clueless and that I need help. When you are learning say language you have books how to do it and you need to do it in a way other are doing it as much as possible. So I thought it will be the same with trading, oh boy how I was wrong. Information I found in my language were truly terrible, deceiving, most of those was just plain scam. Finally I found Futures.io and I never left.
Single most important thing I learned is that you really need to put effort in. You need to accept that challenge. No shortcuts, no magic, just raw work and self improvement. Meditation, knowing yourself, trusting yourself, loving yourself and others.
It didn't help me that much in the markets yet, because there is still soo much work to be done - but when I followed this pattern in my work and personal life everything improved so much. I changed my job and I love it, I focusing on useful IT certifications (programming is so much easier when you work in a team), I have decent salary, children, wife... I evolved into state I am quite happy with. As for markets, currently I have some personal indicators and strategies programmed and backtested and I will run them on new ES Mini Micro.

When I was younger, as a pokerplayer, I was an active member of a similar site for poker ( 2+2) . This had a very significant impact on my growth as a player, so it made lots of sense to me that something similar was out there somewhere for Trading. With a little bit of effort I came accross futures.io and lurked for a week or two before deciding to become an elite member and commit to it.

So far, its been really rewarding. Ive created a journal here, aswell as gaining access to the collective experience of others in my position. really priceless. I also love the indicators section ,it's helped me get examples of indicators that I can open and learn ninjascript from, which is excellent.

I look forward to many years in futures.io to come!

The futures.io community is excellent, and I love the interactions on the forums. While moderation of voice channels can be difficult at times, I truly believe that it would be an improvement to have the option of voice comms with other members, through something like teamspeak, discord, or similar.

I hope this gets considered!

regards,
Conall

Big Mike.... I don't know how many years it has been since I joined... it may be 8 or 9 years? This community has been so much help for me. I probably would not have started building indicators if it were not for what I saw on this site. Moreover, when I share some of the indies that I find interesting, I get so many ideas back from the other users that have downloaded and used the indies. To Big Mike... Thank you so much and I am looking forward to the next 10years!!!

Well, I would really love and appreciate an upgrade to elite.
I started trading two years ago. I had no financial or economical experience at all. I just bought stocks and Etfs in the beginning with the intention to hold. Then I Started to search for more information on trading, and soon after I was completely overwhelmed by the tsunami of websites, brokers, news, charts, indicators, books, methods and YouTube gurus that I encountered. It’s so hard to trust anyone or any info/tip/news in this business. I am still researching, but my passion for trading really broke out after finding futures.io. Even more info and sometimes contradictory too but at least people were nice and actually reacted to my questions. In would have never started a journal without this site. And without that journal I wouldn’t have gotten the confidence that I have now. I am going live with futures soon. Thank you for this opportunity.

From BMT to FIO, these forums have been instrumental to my recovery of two blown accounts. There were many looking up at the sky ďGod am I really this stupid?Ē moments! The journals and the Spoo thread is invaluable. Once I realized that I had to think in probabilities and that anything can happen it allowed me to sit in the trade in a state of calm and not micromanage myself into death by 1000 cuts. FIO is the best investment Iíve ever made.

I'd like to share my story and how the forum influenced it.

At the same time I entered college, betting platforms were starting to become a popular thing. I don’t like betting, but it called my attention seeing people design systems to predict the result of a sport event. I decided to give it a chance just for fun (this was 2008).

For the next 3 years, it became my main income source and it couldn’t have arrived at a better time. The financial crisis hit my family especially hard and besides supporting myself I had to help them. But then the government got in the way. They approved a law banning international betting exchanges, essentially lowering quotes and making my system (and every other) unprofitable. I had 1 year and a half left for my degree in Chemistry and I had to decide whether to continue with that or emigrate to the UK and bet full time. I thought the best decision was to continue my degree, a decision I regretted later.

The European double dip hit Spain really hard, with unemployment at 25% in 2013, the same year I graduated. I couldn’t find any jobs and I soon depleted my betting savings and started to build up debt. I started to look for other types of jobs and it was around that time that I joined the forum. There were a lot of similarities between betting and trading, and I thought I could be successful at this. After reading much, I made a trading system (discretionary) and decided to go live with the money I had left. I soon found that trading challenged my mind much more than betting did and I blew that account due to not being able to accept a loss. Since it wasn’t my system what failed, I borrowed money and decided to test again.

I was on the path to blow it again when I read a post by Big Mike (I don’t remember which one specifically) about novice traders not being able to accept the pain of losses. It made me accept that I was not prepared to trade and that I needed to focus on finding a “real” job. It saved me from digging myself into a hole I would not have being able to get out. I decided to give me a break from trading and the forum. I had a couple of rough years but finally the economic situation improved and I was able to find a job related to my degree. I paid all debts and my family can finally sustain themselves. I’m on the middle of a PhD now.

However, I never abandoned the idea of trading. But this time I would do it right and only when I’m really prepared. I’ve being studying in my spare time and currently I’m reading the Spoo-nalysis thread from the beginning. When the time comes, I’ll start doing combines, which I think are a game changer.

Four score and seven years ago, I officially began my trading "career"

Taking it back to when I was a child, around the age of 8 or 9 by father passed away. At that time some of my family members moved to set up a small college fund that included some stocks and other very small investments. This was to be manged by a family member who happened to run a small hedge at the time. Throughout my teen years I always bugged my mother about what the stocks were doing and how much money I had( money burns a hole in my pocket always has) being a single mother from the country, stocks/investments weren't her forte being an amazing mother was tho ( thank god). I use to look at the finance section of the paper at the time and act like I new what was going on but at that age I never truly understood. When I turned 18 I cashed in instead of going to college I got a truck and went to technical college to become a welder. At this point in time the idea of stocks and wall street took a back seat as I thought I had it made being a welder/ wanna be redneck. After school i got my first job building large scales for trucks and trains.

I soon realized that I didn't want to sweat my ass off for the next 40 years so I started looking into trading/wallstreet.
I was about 19-20 at the time and really had no clue what to do. I basically typed into google how to get rich quick and went down that rabbit hole for 6 months to a year. About a year later I quit that job to go work at a welding robotic company with the idea I would not be sweating my ass off and I would have more time to work on my trading.

Once i got settled there I ended up buying the Tim sykes penny trading course. I quickly realized stocks weren't for me I couldn't look at 50000 companies/tickers and figure out what to do and I wasn't going to read all the earnings and things like that.

So after losing a little bit of money I switched to FX, with the idea i would only need to trade a handful of pairs. I ended up buying the forex guys course(still use it to this day) and actual did decent with fx, The only thing I didn't like was the over night/Asian session. To me this is where I always loss money. At the time I was swing trading the daily and 4hr chart, I would place trades at work and then monitor every 4 hours or so. I would also wake up around the Europe open and close or place trades. At this time I was also waking up at about 5 am to drive the hour plus to work.

I eventually got tired of the hours with FX and tried a few auto systems but never really like the idea of them.
So being annoyed with the FX hours i started looking to see what was out there. I originally found futures due to wanting to trade crude. After further research I found the ES and like the idea of only needing a few pts a day.

So i downloaded NT7 and hit the ground running, when i first started trading I was extremely over leveraged. I was trading 3 cars for 6 ticks with a 2 tick stop loss. This was great in trending fast moving markets but i got smacked in the mouth when things slowed down.

At that time i was getting annoyed and started to look for help/courses. I found FIO because I thought the gomi indicators were going to be the thing I needed.. so i bought the elite membership and never ended up using the gomi indicators.

This site has helped me grow 10 fold, the list is to long to mention but the regular contributors of this site are what make it great and who helped be grow as a trader.

Congrats on the 10 years mike and hopefully we get 10 + more!!

Itís so hard to trust anyone or any info/tip/news in this business. I am still researching, but my passion for trading really broke out after finding futures.io. Even more info and sometimes contradictory too but at least people were nice and actually reacted to my questions. In would have never started a journal without this site. And without that journal I wouldnít have gotten the confidence that I have now. I am going live with futures soon. Thank you for this opportunity.

I will share my story as well.

Started trading about 7 years ago at the age of 21 - 22, without any prior experience in investing, running a business or athletic endeavor. What got me in was the opportunity I perceived. I was not afraid to put in the work to the best of my ability. Every challenge I faced before came easy and I never thought about it for a moment that this journey would be any different. Very early I took a trading course, from a person who was actually trading successfully, however I somehow missed his behavior patterns, how he treats the market, entries, exits, preparations etc. and most importantly how much emotional discipline he had. I focused on what all beginner trader focuses on, how can I create similar profits.

This mentor was also teaching and selling an algo that he was calling 'never lose strategy' which, I've bought into of course. Did the work, started running the algo. Interestingly it has worked for multiple months. Alright, great, I was an algo trader, bought proper equipment, rented a space for it, borrowed money to earn more profits, at this point I was completely disregarding any costs, since I couldn't imagine that this could go down bad.. but that is not how we learn in life and well.. that trade came. It took out any prior risk tests that were done on the algo and I started sitting on a fairly large loss, after giving back all profits and the losses grew, grew more and I slowly started losing the ability to sleep. I can't remember when, where or why exactly I closed out the position manually, I was in a shock. That loss was bigger than all I have ever earned before as a young twenty some year old. Probably would have been a good time to give up, however the profit potential was still there in my eyes, especially after seeing the other side and making the assumption that if I can lose this much than surely, I could earn this much as well. I closed down the algo business and moved back to manual trading.

Desperate for profits I was a great candidate to become the lunch money for some quick profit online guru, which ended up to be another expensive lesson as well. After and during this prior I have tried many many instruments, tools, education forms, anything I could have my hands on to learn the art of trading. That is how I ran into this place. What I immediately found different was the helpful attitude of the community, without any negativity. To this day it is one of a kind of a place in this regard. Focus on the work and helping each other out otherwise bring your business elsewhere. I have watched many many webinars in here and read threads and journals for hours on end and some of them had a big impact on my trading and my life in general. So again my thankfulness and respect to those people willing to share.

In the good spirit of keeping it short, I just want to add a few lessons that I've learned during this time:

• Learn to trade small properly before you go for it big.
• Develop a business plan, develop your habits and observe yourself closely.
• The ultimate master teacher is the market. Everyone and everything can be of help but no one can do the work for you.
• Be thankful for everything you were given in your life, it is there to help you grow.

Thanks again and congratulations!

Hello everyone, I am an elite member and I am normally a lurker but I visit everyday. Just wanted to add an introductory post here in the spirit of the forum.

I started trading in 2007. I was 25 years old. I deposited 2k in a Forex account with 400 times leverage. You all know the rest of the story. I cried when it was over. That was my only blown account. I made some deposits here and there and mostly broke even or lost a couple hundred bucks. But slowly but surely through out all these years looking at charts they started to speak to me. I always wondered what price action meant, hearing traders say that price is king, but now I know. Most indicators are lagging indicators they only show you where the market has been. Any how my trading style now is opportunistic discretionary. And I feel like I am close to turning the corner after all this time. I am never going to give up because I love trading, not for the money but for the game, or the opportunity it represents.
And so I love the markets and I love Futures.io Thank you Big Mike for this awesome community. The best trading community on the internet.

I got interested in trading while doing a phd after a chance meeting with a trader in 2007 on a flight. He told me to read market wizards, told me about RSI and drew out a reversal pattern on a scrap of paper. I instantly got distracted delving into the world of trading and decided it could be a workable endeavour after reading Van Tharp. I made a little bit of money in the wake of the financial crisis but then had to put my new interest aside to finish the PHD.

I finished the phd but also developed chronic fatigue syndrome after appendicitis. After recovering some of my health I decided to look into trading some more because it seemed to offer the opportunity to control my schedule. I read some more and played around in sim and developed my own method of scalping inspired by Al Brooks and his price action focused approach that I found on futures.io. Since then it has been two steps forward and then two or three steps backward. The pattern for me has been to make some money doing discretionary trading and then hit the wall with fatigue and take two and sometimes three steps back. I have managed to avoid large trading losses (I'm down 2-3k all up) but have decided given my health at the moment that discretionary trading is not feasible for me.

I've also been investigating various algorithmic approaches but have not found anything that I can implement i.e. works with a small account or under topsteptrader style rules. I've spent a bit on tools (10k) and now often come to futures.io to dissuade myself from throwing any more money into the money pit by reading the ambivalent reviews of most software packages. These reviews remind me of the lesson I have learned about tools that no matter how good a mechanical trading system looks in theory, implementation is still hard due to tech problems, life/health and work interruptions, psychology and market change.

It's been fun though if not yet rewarding. I'm still trying to find something that fits me though and am currently spending more time and energy trying to get healthy using cheap sensible decisions rather than looking for a gold needle in a digital haystack of mechanical trading with an expensive magnifying glass in the hopes that I will be delivered from my current health induced financial constraints. I'm now more of a long term investor in crypto which has the advantage of allowing small investments that can be used for swing trading that I can make out of spare change I have remaining from my regular day to day living budget so not using any hard won savings to pay for large margins in futures.

I started swing trading stocks a little over ten years ago. Throughout these years I had many questions regarding the markets and my Google searches often directed me to FIO. And while perusing the threads I had developed a curiosity about the futures markets. Passive at first but eventually the ES found its way into the list of charts I would look at on a daily basis. I would mark up my ES chart daily and at some point I decided, "Hey! This seems like something I could do!" Or at least it seemed like a worthwhile or enjoyable challenge.

I started SIM trading the ES and quickly discovered that futures trading was super freaking hard! And there was no one in real life that I knew that I could discuss this sort of thing with. I felt isolated in this endeavor and pretty much lost. There were no mentors or, at the very least, like-minded lunatics to be found in my social and professional circles. This brought me back to FIO. These lunatics were everywhere there! JK! .

I paid for my elite membership, started a journal, and was absolutely amazed by the feedback I was receiving from experienced traders from all over the world! I was completely blown away by the insight that all of these traders were willing to share. I quickly began to spend more and more time reading the threads, learning, enjoying the discussions and sharing market experiences with other traders. I no longer feel isolated in my trading. When I joined the community I never imagined that it would become such a big part of my life. But it has!

I really can't articulate how rad @Big Mike's creation is, and my gratitude to him and all the traders in the community that make FIO the truly awesome place that it is. Trade well all!

PS: Apologies for the overt sappiness, but it's genuine...

I became interested in trading back in 2001 while I was going to college. Non of the majors interested me. While in Borders one day, I saw a book called the Master Day Trader by Oliver Velez. Now that interested me.

I didn't read the whole book, but that didn't stop me from making my first real trade. I placed a trade based on good news that i heard from cnbc. After entering the trade, the stock went down, then down some more. I exited with a loss, based on fear that it would go down even more. I lost too much, got depressed, and stopped.

For the next 8 years, I worked as a retail kiosk manager. During that time, I visited the bookstore often, and bought "the beginners guide to day trading" by Toni Turner. It was a smaller book that I could read from cover to cover. I didn't have $25,000 to trade with, I needed to figure out how to use less money.

2008, I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, and went to a seminar about investing. They talked about trading with options and promoted their courses starting at $500. I bought a few books about options instead. I learned it and figured out how to use less money to trade. Swing trading with options took too long for me. I didn't want to dedicate a few months for one trade. I wanted to be a day trader and make money faster, and close my positions at the end of the day so that I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I found Nadex during 2010. I learned how to trade binary options with just around $50 risk. I told myself that this was the thing that was going to help me raise money to day trade. I traded their s&p derivative and had beginners luck, but my profits quickly faded one month later. I realized that this trading thing wasn't going to work out so I searched for something else.

I joined the printing industry and worked for another 8 years until I decided to pickup Nadex again, but this time with their 5 minute forex. I used the Martingale strategy as my risk/money management. Blew up my account.

I decided to learn regular forex trading during summer of 2018. I could finally use the 2:1 ratio trades that I have been taught, and I didn't have to have alot of money to do it! I quickly realized that day trading with the forex market was not fast enough.

During my self education of forex trading, I stumbled across Ninjatrader. I used their 2 week trial, and was won over by their ATM strategies. I purchased the plateform, and started sim trading consistently. I quickly learned how to trade the futures. This was what I was looking for, I could have a smaller trading account compared to trading stocks, and no pattern day trading rule to be worried about, plus the tax treatment is better.

Then I read a few more books about daytrading, and started treating this as a real business.

This year, I finally looked for a forum to join because of two reasons. first, nobody that I knew understood what I was talking about, and second, I needed some reassurance that other people are doing it successfully and that it wasn't just a pipe dream.

I never met another retail trader, and that's who I am. This forum filled the void that I was longing for....reassurance that what I was aiming for was possible. Thanks Mike for creating this website. I've searched for other sites like this, and no other ones compare.

For journaling, I screen record my trades and rewatch them to make notes in my OneNote. I've done journaling with excel, and it didn't help me as much. Everyone is different, and this is my way.

I found my place in the market, which is scalping at the open. I like checking this forum to answer any questions I can, and am happy to help others understand more of the markets, to the best of my knowledge. Thanks for everyone being here!

My best friend said "How much money do you have?" I replied 1 quarter. He had fifty cents. So we walked clear across town in the snow to play our favorite game in the arcade. He made a new high score and I came in second that day as several watched. I was addicted to games. Just like a junkie needing another fix, my friend and I would spend our last quarter on games.
Growing up, my dad was constantly listening to the radio. I would hear the words "Dow Jones" and would laugh when I heard "pork bellies". But I was not at all interested. He asked me "why don't you learn the biggest game in the world?" I replied "because the stock market is so boring".
I went on to get a job at a pharmaceutical company where I met a young guy there who was working just to put himself thru college as a programmer. We became friends and he wrote programs that would give us the edge in the online games we would play. It felt good to dominate over our opponents. Twenty three years had passed, and my job was, what most of us called "comfortable misery". It paid the bills, we drove nice cars and lived in nice houses. But when we clocked in to work, it was like checking in to a prison. Was this the American dream? From the outside it looked like it. (Pic below of my home at the time)

My dad showed me how he had turned five thousand dollars into a half a million by buying stock in a new company. This had now rekindled my interest so much that I was now ready to learn about the stock market. I began to trade stocks. It slowly became my new game. I heard about people called day traders that really sparked my interest. Wow! Now that's a dream job I could handle! I found a school and gave them a call. The salesman said to me "Our students make an average of 500 dollars a day and the good ones a thousand or more". So impressed with what he told me I took a leap of faith. I quit my job, pulled out all my 401k money from the company and went to day trading school, not knowing anything but how to buy and sell stocks on line.
As a noob, I was so excited. I learned about something new called futures. The day before I was done shelling out thousands to this school, the salesman that had talked to me said he was quiting. When I asked why, he told me because he was tired of lying to people. He told me the truth was that most of the students fail and go back to a job broke after they face reality. Really! I had quit my secure job of 23 years on a lie? But he was right as I went on as a full time day trader only to take heavy losses. I lost thousands. By one year I had lost half of my life savings.
I began to search for real traders in what I now know as a school of sharks. Buy my latest indicator and rule the market! Come to our school and live the life of your dreams! And I fell victim to some of these scams because I didn't want to go back to punching a clock.
I was lucky enough to come upon this website called "Big Mikes Trading". I met online someone called Jeff Castle. He began to help me and even shared his indicators with me for free. What? Big Mike even invited me into a private chat at that time and I heard when he took a trade. Wow! These guys were just like me. Really trying to become successful as a real day trader. The price to join Big Mikes was peanuts compared to what I had shelled out to that school, but the information I learned helped me to achieve my dream job and by the third year, as a full time day trader, I was making money. It was Awesome!
(Pic of me starting out)

I became real religious and was asked to become a full time youth pastor at our local church. Because I loved day trading so much, the only way to give my full heart into the ministry was to burn my day trading bridge. So I gave over to the church all my money and closed my accounts. The church built a nice new fellowship hall with a full kitchen. I walked away from trading over three years. Then the pastor one day spread lies about me and kicked me to the curb. I understand what it's like when the Amish talk about being shunned. All over theology. My house went into bankruptcy and me and my family lost everything. You can't even draw unemployment if you lose your job working at a church because churches don't pay taxes. My great credit was ruined, people I thought were our friends turned their backs on us, so we moved just to get away. It was a tough next two years as my wife and I relocated and started new jobs. I landed a job working part time as a forklift operator. One day my new boss said "hey, have you ever hear of Robinhood? You can trade stocks for free." This started my journey back into trading by opening an account and trading options for free.
I traded options until I could open up a futures account with Ninja Trader. I found my way back by Googling "Big Mikes Trading" to find it was still going, just under a new name. Yes! I was so excited because I knew real traders would be in the forums. I slowly learned Ninja Trader all over. I was used to 6.5 and now it was Ninja 8. Or should I go with 7 since there are more indicators for that? What about ThinkorSwim? A Nice platform as well.
I have to confess that I blew up my account in just two months. When I had thousands, day trading was a little easier, and you can be a bit sloppy and still pull out a win. But when you only have a thousand dollars in your account you better be wise. I confessed this to Cory a cool guy on this website. He told me basically to act like a hunter and give yourself one shot a day. If you can only trade once a day you will learn to be more precise with your trades. He advised me to also quit trading on those small time frames. Ha! Ha! as I blew up my account trading on a 55 tick chart. So back to the min. chart I go.
I refunded my account with some tax money I got back and this last week every day I have made money. There are several people I would like to thank, but a big shout goes out to Cory for helping me with indicators and being a friend. Also to Fat Tails for his wonderful indicators. And last but surely not least is Big Mike. When I saw him handing out food and toys to the needy at Christmas it showed me the kind of heart this guy has. If it wasn't for Big Mike starting this website and all the hard work he has done, where would a lot of us be? Instead of looking soon to being able to go full time again at my dream job as a day trader. I might have been the old guy welcoming you at the door of Walmart.
To everyone that is a part of this community, if you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Allow your passion to become your purpose. Happy Trading.
Skid
P.S. I can't forget my wonderful wife who stuck by my side believing in me as I drug her along on this roller coaster of a ride. It helps to have a good woman by your side when things get tough.

If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life. Allow your passion to become your purpose.

I am totally humbled to be here. Just like my life, a bit late to the game but eff if I am not playing it. FIO is a home. I've been fortunate enough to meet people here that have changed my life. Regardless of my success or failure in trading, I am fortunate to have a partner in life for life, and friends that make being alive worth every minute. I don't think that I would be here in my life if it were not for trading. Thanks @Big Mike for making it happen, man. Wish you and everyone here the best.

I'm not going to put in a big personal story, and, anyway, there are many that are moving and much more interesting already.

I'll just say that the people on futures.io are genuine and supportive, and there is real trading knowledge and experience freely shared here. It's a good place to check in every day, and a good group to be part of. You'll also definitely learn a lot, from people who actually want to help you. Plus, there's a ton of people who are in the same boat as you are, just wanting to improve their trading and willing to share about it.

Thanks Mike, you did good.

Bob.

Mike,

I've been with FIO since the days of Big Mike's Trading. I don't really have a story other than, when I joined I had been burned by several scams online regarding trading. I still have the burned T-shirts from the experiences.

But every time I have looked for information either about a company, a strategy, an indicator, or some twisted-trading theory that pops into my head in the wee-hours of the night, I come to FIO first. I don't think I have made a trading software, program, strategy purchase in 5 years without consulting FIO. I have made purchases against the better recommendation of more veteran trades here, and of course we all know what usually happens!

I did trade off and on for the last 5 years, and finally am at a place to be able to dedicate the time and energy to trading
that I could not before. This site has been instrumental in providing guidance, advice, and help for someone who is still a beginner trader.

I love this site, even for non-elite members you can find a wealth of information here, and usually it is said with a tough love approach. I have recently started reading postings from @bobwest around the site (not at all in a stalkerish manner, no! ) because I love his/her approach to a topic. It has been very interesting reading some of bob's postings.

I have also started following several trading journals and I truly find those helpful! It is there that I found out more about the TopStep Trader and OneUp combines, and finally made a decision based on the total transparency of one funded trader.

Based on everything I just typed in this long-soliloquy, I am ready to take the plunge and become an elite member, and I give a big thanks to Mike and the rest of the "regulars" who make this site the best out there!

All the best to you Mike for the tremendous growth and support over the years! All the best to those that are truly dedicated to the success of not only this site, but to the success of your fellow traders!

Wolf

Congratulations to the administrator and all participants on this anniversary. And although I am not an elite member and do not have access to many forum bonuses, I found what I was looking for: a community of real traders from around the world. And although I am not a practicing trader, it is this forum that adds morality and strength to continue to search for the path to trading. Good luck and more users and bonus programs

I joined the futures.io community because of the information. When I first found FIO, it quickly became apparent that itís the real deal. The users, the moderators, the content and discussion, it is all priceless information. Itís easy to recognize the passion and commitment this community has towards learning. Educating myself is paramount and the FIO community has delivered time and time again.

I joined recently, in August of 2018. I knew right away I wanted Elite Member status. However, I spend most of my time browsing through the general forums, asking as many questions I can. Without fail, every question Iíve asked has found an answer or, pointed me in the direction of where I can find one. Iím sure, as like many others, Iíve gone down the rabbit hole of Google searches, opening a thousand tabs, looking through each page of information to compare it to rest. Which is fine, you usually find some good information. But then after that, I find myself returning to Futures.io to search though itís catalog. To find a second opinion for the new information I think Iíve learned. Almost like a teacher that will grade my work. Thatís indispensable to me.

Iím quite new to the world of trading and the FIO community has made sure that my first steps were in the right direction. I feel incredibly blessed to have found a resource like this so early in my journey as a trader. Reading stories about past triumphs and failures is unbelievably eye opening. Receiving real-time feedback from a community of weathered traders is something you could only dream of. Without a doubt, FIO has provided a foundation of information on which I can build my trading knowledge.

I dabble in many skills, crafts and hobbies. They all lead me to find online communities where I can find answers to my specific questions. When I finally find the right place itís such a relief knowing that I have a resource I can turn to. Sometimes these types of resources can be a hit or miss. Fortunately, FIO is a total hit. The community is active and engaged in the topic of trading. From theory to practice, from definitions to discussions, someone here is interested in or, interested in becoming interested, in the topic you want to talk about. Itís essentially a big family of traders that want to improve their experience and help improve the experience of others.

Iíll end with saying thank you to the team, everyone who works on this site and keeps it running! Thank you to the community! Congratulations on ten years, I look forward to ten more!

Am usually a very skeptical guy, so did not get dragged in too many scams, but still spent a significant chunk of cash on the latest software and indicator and neural nets I have made 40g in 6 months and lost it all and more in the next month, so not a great trader by any measure, but I have learnt my lessons and taking it slow listening and learning from this community.

But even during the initial days (back in 2010) I found this forum to be one of the few places online where people were open and willing to help and I found BigMike playing the role of the benevolent dictator so well kicking scammers or toxic members before they can do damage to community. I have seen BM and other members battle through serious personal issues all the while helping others. I hope I make money trading, but I hope even more that this community stays around for me to share my (hopefully) success with.

Thanks BigMike and all the community members who keep this site going, looking forward to another 10!

Why I joined Futures IO... well after losing two accounts to day trading I thought it was time to look for help online. I quickly found out there so many business online that offer services or products for sales. That's when I started looking up reviews and it came bringing me back to this website. So after a few visits to this websites I looked around on the pages and saw that question are posted daily and responds are truthful. That's when I started sending more time on here. After a few weeks on the website scrolling thru and learning more form the webinars and threads. I decide it was my time to become an elite member. Then my world changed around. I saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars but reading this site before buying any more products and services from others. I learned from journals that made me a better trader. Not to mention the amount of helping support on this website is out standing. If I had a people I can easily search it to see if it was there and if not I post a new thread and get a respond within the day usually.

The only thing I can wish there was more of is responds in platforms threads other than NT. NT is by far the most popular with views and reply. Unlike ThinkorSwim that has a lot less than NT. Now the information that is NT page is still very helpful just can't also put it to the test.

Also just figured out there is an app which makes life so much easier to say connected with everyone on here to the path of freedom.

Great work Mike and the reset of the family to make this a better site for all of us to use, learn, and grow with. I am happy to be part of a great thing and more to come.

Hi Mike and all,

I feel it's absolutely essential that posters mention the degree of success they have found in terms of statistics. We are all here to make money, and whilst it's nice to read of other trader's struggles and tribulations, if only 1 in 10 members are successful, then we have a big problem as a community. Percentage return equity curves would be particularly welcome for anyone not keen to divulge dollar amounts.

Thanks.

Haven't been on here very long as an elite member, but I frequented the site while looking for trading and coding tips. I finally took the plunge a few months back and can say that it was a great decision. The tools, tips and community support I've found is amazing. Thanks FIO and big Mike for all that you've done!

Been a dabbler in trading for around 25 years. Nothing serious. About 4 months ago I decided I had had enough of working for others (my last occupation was an OTR flatbed driver).

I have been doing some diligent study of trading in general and was using small forex accounts to practice. Then I saw that CME was offering micro index futures. I accelerated my studies. Purchased Ninja Trader. Was looking for some different indis and came across futures.io. Joined/ Then figured what the hay for $100 I can be an elite member.

So, here I am. First post. Getting ready to go full live trading next week trading the MNQ.

Hi Mike,

Looks good. Shame about the pixelation from GIF compression, have you considered using html5 instead? gives you access to vectors which look perfect

here's a super quick mockup I made in 2 mins (with a tool because i'm lazy ) of what I mean in terms of image quality.

https://share.bannersnack.com/b13evs53x/

If you wanna share your indesign file or whatever i'd be happy to convert

Itís hard to believe thatís itís been 10 years since the beginning of futures.io (Big Mikeís). I think I must have come across FIO in Its first year of existence. As many new traders, I came across the site looking for the something to make me a successful trader. Something that would make me money on a consistent basis. I think I may have been looking for ďwinningĒ Indicators. Oh, and I wanted it to be free. Not too long after visiting the site it was clear that the site was about more than just indicators. I also learned quickly that I wasnít going to find an indicator that made me profitable.
I was encouraged to journal on the site, so I began to journal a lot. I annotated charts for various markets and if my name ever comes up you can see that Iíve bounced around from using market profile, moving averages and CCI and Wyckoff as taught by Gary Dayton. There may even be other methodologies, but I donít recall.
Funding my account with more than a few thousand dollars was always an issue so I began to search for ways to get a funded account and came across Topsteptrader. Iím not 100% certain, but I may have been one of the very first to do a combine and journal it on the site. Iíve never been able to pass a combine and to be completely transparent and honest, Iíve probably done more than 20 combines. Iíve gotten close a few times only to ďFĒ it up at the end. No, I have not journaled those combines.
After failing to even get close to becoming profitable I felt it was time to step away from trading. I became less active in the site as well. I did however discover the holy grail of trading. Unfortunately, I canít sell it or give to anyone. One must discover it on their own and then once you discover it, you put it into action. Iíve not been able to put it into action. What is it? The mental aspects of trading are what need to be honed. They are Patience, Discipline and the acceptance of Outcomes. Yes, you need a method that for the most part is profitable, but all methods will work and fail, so I feel itís about finding when the method works more often and focusing on that and avoiding it when it doesnít. You could also say that would be having Patience. To be successful we need to wait for setups to occur. Discipline to do this consistently. Not sometime. Not on Wednesdays, but always. Like a professional trader. We are Patient and have the Discipline to be so, and then when the setup(s) occur we then follow the plan to enter and manage the trade. Even if we do this we still may lose on the trade. There will be losers and there is no way to avoid it. So, we have to be willing to Accept the outcome, not just the winning outcome. Not being able to accept losses was big for me. Well, so are patience and discipline.
I certainly donít mean to trivialize the other aspects of trading that are important. Having a plan and executing to the plan, journaling and review are all important. By the way, I put emotions into the category of ďMental AspectsĒ. Iím not a psychologist, so I speak for myself and say that emotions canít be avoided or suppressed. You will feel what you feel. They key is to not let the emotions control the situation. Recognize the existence of how you feel and acknowledge it. For example, youíre in a trade and itís going against you but has not hit your stop. You may be feeling a little tense. What do you do? Deep breath and follow the plan. The same applies for being in profit. You may be feeling tense because you are up on the trade. Do you exit? Deep breath and follow the plan.

I have not mastered the above, but I do believe itís the holy grail to trading.

I admit I still want to trade. I'm not sure that day trading is for me. Sticking with the longer term trend on higher time-frame charts may be where its at.

Congrats on 10 years for FIO!. Ten More!!

Mike,

I cannot express how much this forum has helped me over the years. It has saved me thousands of dollars in learning the true scoop about vendors and products.

It has provided me with in depth knowledge on technical analysis that is just not available anywhere else.

The constant flow of webinars is amazing as the content grows.

Most of all it has introduced me to people that share my passion for trading.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi all, congratulations to Big Mike and Futures IO for building this truthful, transparent and information rich community. I have started trading 3 years ago, and if I am getting to sustainable and consistent results was because this website has been a source of inspiration that is unpayable. I am an avid estiver of the vŪdeos and your journals have been crucial to create my own style and focus.
I have learnt a lot with you all and can say that trading is a journey of self development in all aspects of life, from the mental to the material. FIO covers them all and this proves its quality and explains its success.
Keep on Rollin!

Feedback requested guys: Was this last 'thanks contest' fun and engaging and useful?

I also want to remind you that this was just $250 of prizes, we still have ~$18,000 of prizes left to give away

Stay tuned... this was just a warm-up.

I have to say it was quite impressive to see @wldman jump from not even in the top 10, to #1 spot overnight. Way to go man!

It was from a great post and some follow-through posts, starting here:

Anyone who didn't see it, may want to go over there now and start reading. It's real experience and perspective from a long-term veteran in the trading world.

@bobwest

I appreciate that bob. I type a lot when I have done all my reading and I need a distraction to keep me from getting emotional about my trades.

Like they say...out of weakness you find strength...and in this case, more to read.

Congrats again to @snax, @wldman and @Zachary Standley for being the first winners of $150 in Amazon Gift Cards!

They've been sent via email and you should have them now.

Next contest will be shortly after the holiday weekend, and will be different.

Mike

I found FIO back in 2016 as I was spending more time trading the index futures and had just completed Market Profile training with Dalton. I really like the sense of community that we had during the two intensives and wanted to keep that going to some extent in the sense of being with like minded people and traders.

I moved on to another training session and that took the place of the community I was looking for, but it was a short duration training (1 week or so) and I really did enjoy being with other traders. Trading can be very solitary if you're a discretionary trader, trading your own funds. The sense of community that I was seeking was lacking.

I joined the "other" board that deals with trading, but didn't really care for the vibe there, to much trolling and people just not being nice.

Finding FIO was nothing short of a breath of fresh air! Cool people that wanted to help each other, minimal if any trolling and a REAL sense of community.

A board owner that REALLY seemed to care and is genuinely one of the nicest online personas that I've ever come across. I soon thereafter paid for the Elite Membership if for no other reason than to support the costs associated with running a forum like this. The discounts were a GREAT deal as well and have paid back the very reasonable amount I paid toward the Elite Circle / Membership many times over.

I used this very board for extensive research on moving to Sierra Charts, asked a bunch of ?'s to other members (open and in private PM) on SC and eventually made the move to SC as my primary charting platform, which at the time was definitely the right thing to do, but would also prove to be a very good move in the near future.

I read through Tiger Trader's Spoo-naylsis, joined the discussion and observed @Inletcap being the fastest screen-cap-post-screeny gun west of the Atlantic ocean! Ed moved on due to work and the thread somewhat fizzled out, but the experience was there.

Michael Moore's CL thread was really popular for a while and I found myself again posting along like minded traders.

As for the helping and sharing that goes on, many members shared their Sierra Charts chartbooks with me and I have in turn shared mine in the files section. We're all in this industry together and using the same data and info, why not share ideas and the like?

And, finally, I have to say that one crowning achievement has been PM'g @Big Mike to rename the "Bitcoin Trading" sub-forum to the "Cryptocurrency Trading" sub-forum that we have today here at FIO. Thanks, Mike, not only for having a great place for all of us to come together, but for being a really nice guy!

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Wayne Gretsky
