Feed Ecuador charity drive

Hi guys, I need your help.

Some of my best friends in Ecuador, who I met when I moved here, have started a charity called Feed Ecuador. Feed Ecuador is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit in the USA, and is focused on helping the needy communities of Ecuador, placing a high emphasis on local orphanages and foundations, as well as the elderly and single-mothered families.

Scott, Jane and Tanya Layman are some of the most generous, most kind people I've ever met, and are doing everything they can to help those struggling to survive in Ecuador. They moved here from The States in order to help those in need in Ecuador. Their charity is in the beginning stages and they are trying to build a self-sustaining farm to help feed those in most need.

They have already received a donation of a large acreage "farm" in the area of Pacoche, Manabi (20 minute drive from where I live in Manta). But this farm is currently non-operational, the land has been neglected for a few generations and is in need of a lot of work and contains virtually no livestock. They have volunteers to work the land, but need money for equipment, grow kits, livestock (chickens), and to make repairs to the existing barn.

You can find their website here, click their "Donate" button to donate via PayPal:
Feed Ecuador

I am going to match 100% of all monies raised between now and the end of February, up to a maximum of $2,500. I really hope we can hit that goal as it will raise $5,000 which they desperately need. It is an ambitious goal, so I really, really need your help. Please help spread the word and please consider donating whatever you can to help.

Mike

Unusual not to see any posts on a thread started by Big Mike, especially for such a worthy cause.
I wouldn't normally post to say I had made a donation to charity but I have and hope others will too.

My donation

Hi Big Mike and all,

I did a small donation of 20 $ tonight. My wife has a business and one of her staff did actually immigrate here in Canada with her family from Quito, Ecuador. I will let her know tomorrow of this charity drive, maybe they will donate as well.

Cheers,

er

Ditto. It all starts with the little things- if anyone can make a difference to impact even one person- it is worth it.

How's the tally going? Not much time left on the clock to match!

All donors should receive the below email. If not, please let me know. At the end of the week I'll post a recap here in the thread.

Feed Ecuador
Thank you for your donation to Feed Ecuador, Inc. I am humbled by your generosity and greatly encouraged to know that you and others support our mission.

And a special thanks to Big Mike for his generous matching offer! I know Big Mike has a big heart – I've personally watched him many times help others in need.

Since you are new to the FE mission, I've listed below few common questions and answers:

1. Who does Feed Ecuador serve? FE's mission is simple: to feed the hungry people of Ecuador.

2. What percentage of donated funds are used to provide food for the hungry? Every dollar FE receives goes either for purchasing food for needy people OR for expenses directly related to the La Esperanza micro-farm project (check out this amazing project on the FE website – it's awesome!) Everyone who works on FE projects is self-funded (including my family and me) and we do not personally receive any money from donated FE funds.

3. How can the cycle of poverty be broken? Through the La Esperanza project, we focus on educating the recipients of the harvest about modern micro-farming methods so they can take the knowledge back into their communities and duplicate the program. These methods can be used successfully on small plots of land and/or in a community garden concept.

4. How can you continue to help?

a. Include us in your prayers if you are a praying person.

b. Continue to support us financially if you are able – thank you!

c. Spread the word to your friends.

Thank you again for your generosity. I welcome your partnership in achieving this ambitious goal to help the people of Ecuador.

If you would like an occasional email (no more than once per month) to follow our progress, please send me a return email requesting to be put on our mailing list. Or you can follow our story on Facebook.

Gracias y Que Dios Les Bendiga!
Thank you and May God Bless You!

Jane Layman
President, Feed Ecuador, Inc.

Mike, how far off are you away from your goal? I can divert over some of our charitable budget to close the gap in a meaningful way. Thanks.

The goal has been reached, thank you. I don't want to stop anyone from continuing to make a donation, so the banner will remain until tomorrow.

Hi guys,

With your help, we raised $4,174 from futures.io (formerly BMT) members, plus $2,500 from me, for a grand total of $6,674.

I want to thank everyone for their generosity, the foundation is ecstatic to have received these funds from our charity drive and will be putting them to excellent use to help those in the most need.

There was one particular futures.io (formerly BMT) member who donated $2,500 of that $4,174 (well over half of what was raised), and I wanted to honor them for opening their heart so much. Thank you very much, @Dagonet.

You can continue to make donations to Feed Ecuador directly on their website:

A bit of self-promotion. I am selling some land on the golf course in Montecristi, Ecuador. I made a website for the land:

Montecristi Golf - Real Estate Property For Sale in Ecuador

If anyone is interested you can contact the email address listed on the website, it's my realtor.
