What would happen if BMT switched to 100% pay model
I really like this place Mike but frankly my style of trading is very much in the minority here. There is little or no discussion here about long term investing in equity. Paying for the service of this website would not gain me anything more than I have now.
I am a contributor...not a freeloader in my way of thinking. If I were forced into paying to be a contributor then I would reluctantly decide to move on and look for another site to make my contributions.
As I said... we have had this conversation before. Nothing has changed on this site to make me feel any different.
I don't understand this statement at all unless you are giving guest status to new arrivals for a say 30 day trial...
Personally, I think it would be a harder sell for you to increase your target group If your desire is increased revenue through membership fees.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
To echo @PandaWarrior, (he beat me to it); Take a 3 tier approach. Free - to view non-elite but not post. Charge a small fee (5 or 10 bucks) to post in non elite. This will keep a good portion of the trolls and trouble makers out. Then the 100 bucks for elite.
The other idea is to open up free trials for 30 days once a quarter with the ability to post to non elite. This option would limit your headaches to 4 months a year.
I am not opposed to elite only. Right now you have a fantastic and reputable elite user base. Let futures.io (formerly BMT) grow via word of mouth or maybe to do a referral program for elite members. If they get someone to sign up give them 10 bucks or something.
Ahh...ok I see your point I suppose. It is a problem but don't you delegate some of these issues to other moderators?
I guess you have to come to a decision.... Money is an issue for you though because as I see it without a non-elite part to your website you may have a struggle gaining new paying members. You would have to let them see what is going on in the Elite area... they would have nothing to base their joining your website as a paying customer otherwise.
If you wiped out the non-elite journals...there goes a lot of your content.. I suppose your would migrate a lot of it into the elite section but I suppose a lot of it is dead issues...hence dead weight.
I joined futures.io (formerly BMT) after reading the trader's hideout, journals, psychology & mm sections, and the webinars.
I wanted more. I wanted to read the elite journals. I wanted to see the webinars that are only available to the elites.
Posting and interacts with some of the great traders in this forum helped me tremendously in my trading, but that comes later after I read through most of the free stuff here.
Not sure if it's doable, maybe for guest, they can post and ask questions and keep the non-elite journal BUT their post will only be shown a week later? Then maybe Big Mike can just filter it twice a week, and get rid of the spams, instead of having to keep an eye on those unnecessary post everyday?
Money has nothing to do with it. If you didn't write off the Elite content as not worth your time, you would see me posting my trades, and you would know money from the forum is an after thought. It's amazing how quick people are to jump to conclusions and just make things up as they go.
I already told you money had nothing to do with it but you insist it does. I also said this thread is only for discussion, I'm not taking any action. Yet you tell me I've already decided.
I've spent nearly six years establishing myself as a trustworthy person, I am tired of defending myself to people like you who have zero invested interest in the benefit of this community.
I am not running you down Mike....I believe your trustworthyness. You asked for an opinion and I gave it
You don't believe that I make a contribution to this site? .... If that is true I will probably move on.
Sorry if I have offended you .... I have created few problems for you in the year I have been here...and I realize my style of trading is not the norm here. My objective if I have one was to demonstrate that Long term trading is a viable method of trading and I think I have demonstrated that.
Frankly I have seen nothing on the Elite side to support this type of trading philosophy AND THAT is why I don't cross to the other side ... It has nothing to do with $100 .... it is just there is nothing there for me.
So....you wanted opinions.... you have mine....'nuff said
Big Mike has a lot of things on his plate (and it's getting very late in his time zone), so he might mis-interpret your post's intention/opinions.
Furthermore, he has been defending himself against all sorts of situations so it probably has become an instinct to react to any comments regarding futures.io (formerly BMT)'s finances/integrity.
Still, I think Big Mike has to accept that people will tend to assume it's about money, whether he likes or not, when this topic is being discussed.
I know and I have not lost my cool over this. You would know it if I did.
I defy you to find a single instance when I have run down BigMike or this site.
but this quote does stick in my craw
I have invested a year of my time in a website that does not really cater to my style of trading. I have not created any content in my journals for self interest... rather it is to show newbies that Long term investing is viable and how I accomplish it... and I think I have had a measure of success in that.
There is nothing on the other side of the Elite wall that would help me that I can see or have demonstrated... I am not a free loader ... I am a contributor... I believe my contributions have benefited this community. But if that is disputed by the owner of the site {shrug} no problem... Perhaps the contributions are not welcome by some but I get a descent readership of my 2 journals so that encourages me.
I am sure that nothing would change with me becoming Elite... Would it gain me any more credibility for what I do? I doubt that very much... Perhaps it was a mistake coming to this site in the first place... but it gave me a place to express my views on Long term trading and for that I will be eternally grateful.
So let the cards fall as they may.
One thing more to add.... Why did Big Mike post this type of question in the Non-Elite section if he did not want the opinion of those who are non-elite to reply?... He could have just put the question in the Elite section and we on the other side of the wall would have no input.
I can only imagine the issues involved with running this site. I can imagine his stresses though.... but I do have an opinion and it is valid from my standpoint.
Oops, I didn't mean to stick anything in your craw.. Sorry for any unintended offence.. (...just realised that you meant Big Mike's quote, not my post)
I know you are NOT running Big Mike down in any way, which was why I made the post.. coz I felt Big Mike's response (post #46) to your earlier post was a bit too strong.. Hence, not surprising that you responded as you did.
