@Underexposed go to the post in question. Click edit, then advanced and click manage attachments. Look to see if attachments are listed there under the post.

Also can you grab some screenshots as you compile a post and add photos? May be helpful to determine what is happening.

The issue is the actual file attachments are no longer on the filesystem. AFAIK, the only way they can be removed is if the user removed them from the post or via their UserCP. That is what is odd here. It could just be a bug, this forum software is very old and end-of-life for a long time, which is why futures.io (formerly BMT) 5.0 is coming.

I was wondering if it was user error, maybe he is clicking something when he exits and accidentally deleting all the attachments and not realizing it when he creates the post.

I had it happen in a few minutes and know for sure it wasn't me, I'm guessing it's just an obscure bug. futures.io (formerly BMT) 5.0 will do fine, unless by any chance it's a side effect of dual servers or some other unintended consequence. Old software usually just becomes tired software.

We are only running on 1 server right now. futures.io (formerly BMT) 5.0 is a major project, I would like to enter beta by end of this year but....

I cannot think of what could possibly cause this problem. Until there is a reproducible method available it is not something I can likely fix, with just two people reporting the problem --- and only sometimes.

Mike

this is really odd now.

The post where I had reported this recent problem had a short piece of edited text from the problem post.
It showed references to the images that had disappeared.

NOW, when I look at that edited piece....those links to non-existent images that clearly showed in that edit, THEY have disappeared also....

I will swear on any number of bibles that I am not playing games with you Mike...there is something funny going on.

This is what I think might be happening:

the images that are uploaded are not permanently archived until the post is submitted. They may be held in a temporary site until the post is finalized.

It seems that if I compose the post in the message window and bring in the attachments as needed....I stand a good chance for this "disappearing act" to take place. It is like that temporary location refreshes itself and does not archive the attachments...and it seems to be all or nothing...all are saved or nothing are archived.

But this latest situation where the edited references disappeared baffles me...why should that disappear?

When I compose my message in a flat text file which I leave room for embedding the charts, open the message window, copy and paste the text from the text file to the message window, upload all necessary graphics and embed them into the document and save the post....all appears to work.

Also sometimes I am late in closing the Attachment Management window...I have submitted the post and moved on and minutes later I discover this window has not been close...so I close it......that is why I think the Attachment Management window should be automatically closed after a message has been submitted.

At least, someone else has experienced this...finally I know I am not crazy and I am not alone.

the attachments are not deleted....I only recently saw that I actually had access to my attachments in the UserCP for Underexposed.

The only way I could delete those attachments would have been through the Attachment Manager window....the attachments showing below the message itself only allows embedding.

When I close the Attachment Management window I use the "X" in the upper right hand corner....perhaps that can be the reason...I don't know...it should not be .... perhaps I should click on "Close this window in future...intuitively there should be no differences.

Like BM said it's old software, and I think the developer moved off a long time ago.

Did he not document what he did??...when I worked as a debugger it was drummed into my head the need to document changes...as well as to existing code...it is a lot of work to do so and I suppose the developer would have wanted extra to do so.

It is tough to reverse engineer a problem without it...I had to do that myself on a piece that was not documented on the project I was on...took a week to do...yeah I understand the difficulties.

I think that temporary storage idea I have followed by archiving the attachments after a submission may be the problem though...

You cannot permanently archive everything right away since the poster may not submit the post they were working on....then there would have to be a routine to go in the archive and remove the unused attachments if the the post was aborted.

Just a shot in the dark on my part.
