Welcome to futures io.

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:
  • We work extremely hard to keep things positive on our forums.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendor advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in openness and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, it is not something tangible you can download.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

You'll need to register in order to view the content of the threads and start contributing to our community. It's free and simple, and we will never resell your private information.

@Big Mike

Would it be possible to add a timestamp to posts in V5? I like to read threads (like yours) in the evenings and it would be great to have a chart next to thread to see what was taking place.

Asked and answered countless times.

Yes

Due to time constraints, please do not PM me if your question can be resolved or answered on the forum.

Need help?
1) Stop changing things. No new indicators, charts, or methods. Be consistent with what is in front of you first.
2) Start a journal and post to it daily with the trades you made to show your strengths and weaknesses.
3) Set goals for yourself to reach daily. Make them about how you trade, not how much money you make.
4) Accept responsibility for your actions. Stop looking elsewhere to explain away poor performance.
5) Where to start as a trader? Watch this webinar and read this thread for hundreds of questions and answers.

I want to get your feedback on something I am considering for the new framework.

What if each individual thread could be flagged as Elite (like a boolean, true/false).

The flag would prevent unauthorized access by non-Elite's, and would allow threads to co-exist in a single category such as "Trading Journals" without their being an "Elite Trading Journals" category.

A toggle/filter could be triggered in Search mode and in Forum View mode to control which threads you see, if you wanted to quickly see only Elite threads for example.

I believe the above idea is a good one but want feedback.

I think that today a lot of members struggle to place threads in the so called "right section". For example, a lot of members create threads in "The Elite Circle" when just asking for help with NinjaScript programming. These general help threads would often be better suited to the general NinjaScript Programming section of the forum, for example.

Under the new proposal, the member can create it in "NinjaScript Programming" but just mark it as Elite-only.

Now, I also think the sense of community is critically important, so I do not want to do away with "The Elite Circle". It still serves a purpose.

I ran this idea by @sam028 and he provided some good feedback regarding how many users may pay no attention to the Elite flag during thread creation, meaning that without realizing it all the sudden overnight the majority of new content could switch from being Elite to non-Elite. This would be very detrimental to the site. Any suggestions to over come this?

i like the idea of having a flag, when i am contributing original content, i prefer to do it in the elite sections. When i am asking for help, i will take it from anyone who can give it to me

I wonder if having different sections have a default setting. Journals and indicators sub forums would default to elite for elite members, but things like the hideouts would be default to open.

Well that is the question that came into my mind. What if I forgot to click the elite flag? Then it would be posted for all to see?? I think if you was to incorporate the elite flag, you would have to make it to where all elite members would have to jump through a hoop or two to post OUTSIDE of the elite section. Just a challenge or two to make sure the poster truly wants the post to be posted outside of the Elite section. Otherwise, some posts might make it outside of the Elite section by honest/careless mistakes. If I'm understanding this correctly....

I'll write a script to handle most of it, for example all Elite Journals get moved to just "Journals" and Elite flag = true.

The question really I have left unanswered in my head is how to maintain the general Elite section. I believe it is vitally important, but I don't want it to end up being a collection of topics that better belong elsewhere. It's difficult to strike a balance between having a dedicated "Elite only" section, and also maintaining organization.

Input welcome...

I would have to think about this some more.

In a way, there is no difference, logically speaking. Set the Elite flag, or include it in the Elite grouping -- it is different, but the effect is really the same: either Elite or not.

However, I do agree, and strongly, with @sam028: I think that most new content would end up with the flag not set, simply because most people always just take the default, for anything.... (I generally do. )

That would blow up the entire idea of a group of Elite members who have a particular commitment to the forum, which is really important. Once everything is non-Elite, that's the end of that idea.

(I almost don't like the name "Elite," simply because it has an implication of specialness, sort of putting on airs. But I know that is not the idea, and I do want to keep the distinction of the casual vs. the committed. Maybe that's another issue....)

On the other hand, the present organization of the forum is a little hard to figure out. When I established my journal, I knew where I wanted to put it, but it wasn't that easy to work through the structure to do it the way I wanted it.

This is a very good and also a very hard question. Partly, we're talking about how the issue is put to the user: a user interface issue. Partly, it's how the forum will be organized.

I'm not sure how to handle it. I'll think about it and try to have something useful. I do like the fact that you are willing to look at possibly fundamental change, so long as it moves things forward.

Bob.

A few notes

Elite, the name, is from The Elite Circle - the name of my BBS in 1993. A throwback, but it works.

Organization is the key here. Ability to eliminate some duplicate categories.

It would be possible to set the default for Elite members to be Elite=yes, which would also prevent accidental posting of Elite content like indicators outside the paywall.

I'm open to discussion on the implication of such a default.
