Next thing I see is that most but not all of the avatars are missing.
Confirmed that I did convert avatars, not profile pictures, by going to a user that had an avatar present in IPB 4 and looking them up on VB 3.8 and confirming they have no profile picture, only an avatar.
Just off the top of my head, I can't say I have any big problems with search. I do often find that the title search gets what I am looking for more quickly if it's just a general topic.
I'll use advanced search when I faintly remember that there was something once but I need to get down to the post level and then trudge trough the posts, which is what I do.
I make very little use, in advanced search, of the thread-level search, but go right to the posts. Why? I am usually looking for a particular topic often by a particular person, and knowing the he made a post somewhere in a thread does not usually do what I need.
I am usually using search because I remember that there was something I'm looking for, and often by a particular user, and not because I don't know what is out there and am making a general wide-net search. Probably that would be a good thing to do also, but either I don't usually think to do it, or the current search is not well-adapted for it. I'm not sure I could point to any reason for the latter, but I'll try to think about it, and see if I can come up with any suggestions.
Now, I've read so many posts that I'm usually trying to locate something I once read. I am not sure how a newer user, who is just trying to explore new territory, would be using it....
Need include ext instead of exclude ext, as I know what ext I want to look for.
Advance search always returns too many threads to be of any use. Advance filter? If I know the specific of the search item then I go there directly no need to mess around with advance filter.
Here's an advanced search bug that trips me up from time to time.
1. Enter a user
2. Enter a search term (keyword)
3. Search
4. Decide to go back and change the criteria. Hit the browser Back button (I'm in Chrome, but I remember the same issue in IE.)
5. The search term is still there, but the user field is now blank.
Revisiting that search form should find it still the way you left it, not with something still there and something else missing.
Edit: I just realized that since this is a bug with the current search, and search will be totally re-done for 5.0, probably this will not be an issue going forward. But it does happen in this version, fwiw.
it needs to be more precise, a search on 'wave' by user sharky returns 4 thread. Click on thread will always start on page 1 so it it is still a hit or miss.

page 1 of the third thread return neither 'wave' or sharky, why is it there?
page 1 of the fourth thread returns wave 95 by sharky
So I don't need to see the first thread and the third thread it seems.
