Hi guys,

It's that time again!

Like the last few years, futures.io (formerly BMT) is holding its annual "futures.io (formerly BMT) Best of Trading" awards where the users can select the best of the best in a wide array of categories.

You can see the 2010, 2011, and 2012 results here:
Best Of Trading - Big Mike Trading

The award process is a two stage event: From now until the end of November, we will hold nominations where the users need to reply to this thread and nominate the candidates.

Then during December we will hold the actual voting, where users will cast their votes and select the winners in each category. Remember, we can only vote if first a name has been nominated!

So step one is to make nominations in each of the following categories:
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Member of the Year
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Thread of the Year
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Journal of the Year
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Programmer of the Year
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Indicator of the Year
  • futures.io (formerly BMT) Webinar of the Year
  • Best Futures Broker
  • Best Forex Broker
  • Best Stocks Broker
  • Best Data Feed
  • Best Trading Platform
  • Best Trading Book

Indicators/webinars/books etc do not need to have been created in 2012 in order to qualify. This thread is for the Best of Trading, which means the best that currently exists, regardless of when it was created.

Mike

I just want to reiterate:

The award process is a two stage event: From now until the end of November, we will hold nominations where the users need to reply to this thread and nominate the candidates.

That means you MUST REPLY TO THIS THREAD and make your nominations.

If you want to nominate in every category, great! If not, just list the category and then your nomination.

And again, I just want to MAKE IT VERY CLEAR

The VOTING process will start AFTER all the nominations are received. This is planned for December.

There will instructions in December on how to vote.

Right now, just reply with your nominations.

Hello Mike,

It is a great list of awards as usual. Would you consider a category for "Best Options Broker"?

Yes, if there are sufficient nominations in this category it is no problem.

Not a problem, start date is irrelevant -- it's up to users to decide what is best "now".

I have only four nominations:

futures.io (formerly BMT) member of the year: @VinceVirgil

futures.io (formerly BMT) journal of the year : CL Trades

futures.io (formerly BMT) indicator of the year: this little thing has saved me tons of time this year.

Book of the year: This one is odd because its not going to get any votes but I still thinks its the most important one of all. The most important book is the one you write. Your struggles, successes, processes, plans, strategies, etc. All other books are simply a "works cited" footnote in your masterpiece. You are writing one correct?

I want to thank @Cogito ergo sum for the nomination - please, always feel free to PM me - but I'd like to withdraw myself from the vote in support for Jura and josh, as below.

futures.io (formerly BMT) Member of the Year - @Jura and @josh, for their enduring display of intellectual curiosity; @kevinkdog for his exemplary character on this forum; @Big Mike for a tour de force of upgrades to his own toolset, showing resilience and maintaining a tight schedule of webinars in spite of events in his life.

futures.io (formerly BMT) Programmer of the Year - @bob7123 for his dedicated work on data management; @Nicolas11 for his gracious acts of sharing and his creative work (I scribbled this on paper when I was thinking of my nominations: "Actually has a GUI"); @NJAMC for his devotion towards pushing the limits of the platform.

Best Futures Broker - Velocity Futures, for structuring a bailout of its business rather than caving in to the pressure of difficult times, thereby reassuring the livelihood of the people behind millions of retail capital.

Best method is to ride the daily trend for weeks, adding to the position when possible.

Indicators are unnecessary.

Noticed a lot votes for Zen-Fire... Unfortunately, I think it's official that Zen-Fire will cease to exist soon, direct from Jonathan Walden. ( Forums - Rithmic Announces Nonrenewal of Zen-Fire Use)

I don't think it's any surprise, since Mirus has been developing BigTick to move away from Rithmic.

But off-topic for this thread. Feel free to post in another thread so can be discussed in detail.

Mike

Could be a good thing.

Ninja + Zen is costing other brokers 60c per round turn to provide to their clients. This does not even include clearing fees.

Rithmic isn't going to just disappear, so I'd expect them to be reacting to this.

With a new player on the scene, if that 60c stays at that level for both rithmich & Bigtick, we are looking at price collusion. I'd rather hope that what we will see is a bit of competition. I'd love to see that for some of the smaller brokers as right now they can deliver good service but find it hard to compete on price.

Ultimately, what exists now isn't really in our interests.

If you have any questions about the products or services provided, please send me a Private Message or use the futures.io "Ask Me Anything" thread

What category does TopStepTrader fall into? They get my nomination, but not sure what category they would fit into. Maybe there needs to be an educational category? That could work.

You can nominate them in the best Webinars category, which is education.

ONE WEEK LEFT

Make sure you've made all your submissions. Every year people ask "Why couldn't I vote for <xyz>" and every year the answer is "NO ONE NOMINATED THEM!"

Here is my update:

I have decided to take off the Journal from VinceVirgil of of the list because the basic components of a trading journal are missing.
Components that are related to a trading journal are:
1: Describe the trade entry, time, size.
2: The outcome of the trade, price, time, P/L, and how you exit the trade.
3: Behavioral observation, what you where thinking, feelings, preparation for the trade, confidence, trade management and exit of the trade.

It is more a end of day recap than a journal. Have decided to vote on VinveVirgil for best member of the year because of the very good work for his daily recap of the CL. The basic components for a journal are missing but it is indeed very good material to understand PA.

futures.io (formerly BMT) Member of the Year: VinceVirgil

futures.io (formerly BMT) Thread of the Year:

futures.io (formerly BMT) Journal of the Year: ?????

futures.io (formerly BMT) Webinar of the Year:

Best Trading Platform: NinjaTrader

Best Futures Broker- Mirus Futures

Best Data Feed - Zen-Fire

Best Trading Book - The Daily Trading Coach from Brett N. Steenbarger (A must read)

As usual with this particular event, I am late. I will be getting to it at some point and will let everyone know once voting begins.

Well, I think this year we will have to wait for the voting (and the results ) until Mike has settled in Ecuador and has managed to get everything up and running properly...

Yes you were right.

Things were just insane at the end of the year and beginning of the year due to the move, and some things had to get dropped off my list.

I am putting this back on the list and will do the voting soon. The nominations are closed already as per earlier in the thread, and they will be used for the voting options.

I'm also considering a name change so that this "2013 Best of Trading" will actually be both the 2013 and 2014 version, and then at the end of this year (2014) the nominations will be opened and then closed and the vote that takes place in January 2015 will be called "2015 Best of Trading".
