With the latest update (see #changelog ) there are some new features:
1) You can now receive emails/alerts when someone mentions you (ie @Big Mike).
2) You can now receive emails/alerts when someone quotes you.
3) You can now use hashtags, like #hashtag (same as Twitter) to tag posts with certain tags, and then people can subscribe to those tags and receive emails/alerts when any post uses them.
This HashTag feature looks pretty good, but I don't know much about how to use it. For example, I would like to tag: #strategy, #Genetic Programming, #Machine Learning, etc. Do I just add the "#" in front of the text like the "@"? How do I deal with concepts with spaces like the above few examples?
NOTE: For some reason, my HashTags didn't seem to work above at all....??!?!?!?
Thanks,
I ended up disabling the hashtag feature because no one seemed to care, and it is going to cause a direct conflict with a new plug-in I am working on that I believe is far more useful. Sorry.
You can instead just use the tags system, which is somewhat similar. Tags are automatically generated and applied to threads based on words not previously recognized in the forum dictionary.
An example is the tags in this thread:
You can search for tags using the search bar, and go to machine learning for example.
Not as cool or hip as the hashtag feature, but I want to get the other plug-in that uses the # symbol working first and may revisit this later.
When I type the @ symbol, the following text doesn't turn into a dropdown menu of usernames to select from like previously. For example @BigMike doesn't do anything. Also, using the full tag command text [*MENTION]BigMike[*/MENTION] (removing the * of course) doesn't do the trick either.
Also, one other small thing that I noticed recently, is that the formatting keyboard commands don't seem to be working for me either. Previously I could hit Ctrl+B to Bold, etc, but for some reason, I have to manually select the option via my touchpad now.
That's because my username isn't BigMike. It's Big Mike. Also take note it won't show up in preview, only once you post.
Different browsers have different capabilities with vBulletin. Perhaps you switched browsers or updated, etc. There haven't been changes on the forum side.
