I can't remember who asked me to make the chatbox input text box larger, but I finally found it and did so. It's now as wide as possible.

BTW, @bobwest, haven't forgot about your smilies. I just want to put them back in a good way.

Yes!

It's a good solution too, to not have the little panel with the most common smilies there unless the user wants it, from using the smilies icon.

Sorry for that 1 minute of downtime and errors just now, I was trying to squeeze something in...

Yay!

This is great. For 10 years I have had to edit an HTML template in vBulletin two times for every single webinar, to put them in and out....

Now, thanks to the progress of our new webinar framework, I can finally automate this part. The portion in red is being automatically generated.

Please report any problems...

Mike

Sorry about the downtime this morning!

Another 4 hours. It was because of this new temp server with not enough memory.

Our new server should be ready in a couple of days.

I am glad to report Dexter had a better day today. So did I.

I am still struggling to deal with the data center fire. It had a lot of ripple effects, including our cloud drive which was hosted on Nextcloud on those servers. So, I've been migrating everything from the off-site backup to Wasabi S3 (Amazon S3 clone, far cheaper).

For those that care, I've tried s3fs which was unbearably slow. Then I found goofys, and it's quite good for reasonable read/write at any given time, and many factors faster than s3fs.

But in the end, for our servers at least, I landed on s3backer. This project is fantastic. It lets me create a filesystem on top of it -- the author is a big fan of ReiserFS, which I've never used personally (author went to jail for child porn, as I recall, but supposedly wrote one hell of a filesystem). I tried XFS on top first and it just kept throwing errors under heavy load, but under Reiser it works perfectly.

s3backer lets me do a lot of granular control and caching, so the speed is really fantastic. That solved the server issue, so they can backup to Wasabi S3 now instead of the off-site physical server. This will make pulling the files back down during a full off-site restore much faster. It also allows me to keep the off-site in sync, instead of daily, I think I can do hourly once the new server is deployed.

For my home workstation, Windows, however --- lots of problems. I got rid of Google Drive a while back, and like I said, was running Nextcloud. I had a rather complex setup involving WebDAV replication across multiple Synology servers, so that basically any edit was pushed across three servers within seconds. And the important documents in my "Documents" library (Windows) were all on my local NVMe, for fastest speed inside my IDE (Atom).

After trying several alternatives, to eliminate Nextcloud this time around, I finally landed on Mountain Duck. Mountain Duck is actually a nifty app that lets you mount many different protocols as a local Windows drive, and it offers caching as well where needed (like when traveling).

Of course, everything takes time. Having to push terabytes of data at 20MB/sec takes a while. And I keep running into small issues, like permissions needing to be reset on the bucket (user policies), or the modified date not being correct on the target, etc. Tonight is night four, I think, of my attempt to restart the entire copy from off-site to Wasabi.

I should mention, "off-site" is my house across two Synology servers with RAID 6 and around 300TB of capacity.

Also, throw in our new Webinar Framework, and things continue to get more interesting. What I am building allows me to automatically download the source Zoom files upon webinar completion, so we get all the different raw MP4 views (like webcam only, audio only, share screen only, gallery only, and combined). My code auto grabs it, and stores it (using Goofys) to a bucket that stores our webinars. This is so I can share everything easily to our marketing group, like Shane. It's important also so that eventually when a webinar is ended, we can auto-publish to our recording gallery (YouTube for example) very quickly.

Anyway, I've been making a lot of these kinds of changes and coding and work behind the scenes lately. But I hope it shows in the final product, that our community stands out far and above others with all of our extra features, especially the webinars.

Glad you're doing this, although I can't say I understood much of it.

Glad Dexter is doing better too.

I'd like to request the following webinar be converted from flash:

https://futures.io/webinars/apr20_2013/mwinfrey_lessons_learned_price_action_automation/

Let me know if this is the wrong place to post this or if I need to specify the video differently.

Thanks,
Kevin

Today's "can you help" Q&A newsletter was sent out incomplete, due to an error that caused it not to be able to pull the unanswered posts and embed them.

I am pretty certain I know why, and fixed it, but we won't know for certain until next Sunday.

Our privacy policy has been updated.

The primary change is with regards to third-party sharing of your email address. Now that we have built our own webinar framework (replacing GoToWebinar's registration process, for example) we are making it clear that we collect your email address when you participate in a Webinar, and in some circumstances, your email address is shared with a third-party presenter or third-party sponsor of that Webinar.

In addition, we've made it clear that in some events such as Journal Challenges or Battlestations, we may share your email address with a third-party sponsor. This is to make it clear that, for example, if you win a prize, we will share your email address with the sponsor.

Here is the specific change:

Quoting
In the event that you request additional information from a third-party using our website, such as requesting information about a product or service, for example but not limited to our "Elite Offers", we may share your email address with that third-party.

In the event you participate in certain special events on the site, such as but not limited to "Journal Challenges" or "Battlestations" or other special events on the site, we may share your email address with a third-party sponsor of that event in the event that you request information from said third-party. In the case of Webinar events, we may share your email address with a third-party sponsor and/or a third-party presenter of that event.

Guys,

I've finally automated the webinars landing page for upcoming events (the top section):

https://futures.io/webinars

For 10+ years, I've had to manually code all the HTML for every single event, every field, twice (once to add, once to remove). OMG.

So I am very happy that the new webinar framework has come far enough that I now can automate this part.

Now, one of the requests was to add iCal or vcal calendar event files so that our webinars can easily show up on your calendar. And I am having a stupid problem with this part, it would seem... (stupid as in, stupid easy to fix -- probably, we'll see).

I need help testing => click the +Add to Calendar on top please and tell me did it work as you would expect? Everything show up as it should?

Now, the bigger problem that I also REALLY need help, is for people to give me permission to email them a test calendar file. This is going to simulate what would show up when we send out our newsletter for webinar events so the event can be easily added.

I need Outlook, iOS/Apple, Gmail, not Gmail, and everything to help me test. If you give permission then I will send you a few test emails until I can confirm that one single format is working for everyone in the test group.

I would like to get as many in the test group as I can, so please help me and give me permission to email you these tests.

I opened the ical on the web client, and it shows the image. So it is probably a 2013 desktop issue.

I opened the email in Yahoo mail.
I sent a reply with the pictures.
Yahoo does not open a calendar with the link but tries to download the ICS file.

I opened the ical on the web client, and it shows the image. So it is probably a 2013 desktop issue.

Thanks I see a formatting issue here. I will email you a new file to test in the web client again please.

It works properly, as in it adds properly to the calendar. But if there should be an image when I open the ical file, it still looks the same as the other one.

Attached is a ss of the EMAIL, and a second ss of what I see when I open the ical file itself.

Yeah, I can't fix that - it's a limitation of that version of Outlook. But I was asking you to check the web version again for me please, the formatting of the image should look much better. Here is what Outlook 365 Windows looks like:

Hey guys,

Exciting news today

Today, I am happy to announce two new moderators for our community.

@Daytrader999 and @Botts (previously TopGunNote) have both been excellent members of our community, and stand out as not only good contributors, but knowledgeable about our community, and helpful to those seeking assistance.

Please give them your support and understand that there is far more behind the scenes than most of you even begin to realize, so it may take them some time to fully get up-to-speed -- and in the meantime, they are probably a bit overwhelmed

I want to thank all of our fantastic and supportive members, and especially our moderators, for helping set the tone and direction of our community.

Thanks for the 'inauguration' and the introduction to our community @Big Mike!

I couldn't see anywhere else to flag this so I'll dumb it here.

This NT8 indicator hasn't got any code just a dll file and has been downloaded 250 odd times. Pretty sure there is a risk here of letting people import compiled code that cannot be checked?

@andby, you can go to the indicator link and just upload the new version. Let me know once done, and I will notify the people that have downloaded.

Thank you.

Yeah I agree it would be useful but I'm not going to run a dll from an unknown source and either should anyone else. I'm sure its just an innocent mistake.

There should probably be a check in there to stop zips with .dll or .exe being uploaded.

A change was made to our calendar:

- Calendar now shows all events (past events included)
- Categories are working
- Doesn't appear as a second calendar anymore, instead you can add to your existing calendar
- In Outlook, choose the option to "replace calendar" if prompted

Added Report Post to the user dropdown, as many users aren't familiar with the normal layout to report a post.

I also changed both this new one, and the old original yellow icon, to NOT open a new window. So it automatically redirects back to the reported post now after you fill out the form.

Mike

This is why I prefer a mix between the cloud and local, the best way I found to accomplish this is to run Proxmox for my hypervisor on retail devices (non-server hardware) for your local network. For your network switches, all you need is the UniFi dream machine pro. It will handle all the traffic and security just like you had a full set of switches and routers.

At a minimum, you have a working backup on-prem. Still run the site and apps from the cloud or w/e, but this will let you maintain a local copy of the site that you can spin up at moments' notice if needed. Also, you can manage the hypervisor the same way you would manage a cloud framework with kub and dockers (containers in the case for proxmox).

We ran this lite server like on-prem clouds across the street from the CME to try and gain better fills. for some beefy trading systems. The result was unless you are HFT, there really is no point, just use limits, lol.

Cheers,
S

I am still fighting an issue where people are receiving duplicate emails on the webinar events. I haven't found the root cause yet, investigating.

@SodyTexas, my home network is all UniFi. I'm also a fan of Proxmox, I have a cluster here in the office and use it for many things including running Home Assistant. Using HACS with the UniFi Protect add-on is quite good, I'm working on getting all my G4's setup there -- but primary goal is with my G4 Doorbell -- wanting to integrate with all my Google Mini's.

@bigmike UniFi is great the new Pro model has some AMAZING security features including UniFi Protect.

I branched off on my own and no longer get to play with the big fun servers. But that said, I have a little server running everything in my house as well; I have trust issues and can't trust Alexa, lol. I even keep the smart home gadgets on a separate network to keep devices away from my user/trading PC's. But nothing fancy, the proxmox is run on a simple 16G laptop I had laying around.

I kinda miss building HFT clusters. My trading PC is a beast.. maybe I will share it on the trading PC thread.

Sody

Thank you to @aligator for reporting -- there is a bug where vendor post profile is missing their location field. I will need to look into it.

For an unknown length of time, the Download section "Report" feature has been broken (oops).

It's been fixed now. When you report a link within the download section, the mods will again be notified to take a look.

I've made a change so that you cannot add a Download-section file that contains a DLL in the archive. It will throw an error if you try, to remind you to export as non-DLL within NinjaTrader.

Hi, here's a couple very minor issues I had noticed recently on the user dropdown (to the left of each post.) They both seem like they started happening after recent updates.

1. "Find threads started by xxxx" -- I'm finding that it takes you to posts by the user, not threads.
2. Cursor on the username for activating the user menu -- it's for text selection, which isn't optimal, and it changed at some point from the hand pointer, probably.
