Both worked on Firefox. Using Private ('Incognito'), I was given the 'members only' message. I hope this helps.

Hello,

It's a known issue with old webinars (maybe 7+ years old?). We are presently working to release an all new webinar framework, but it's a huge project and taking a great deal of time. Sorry! Newer webinars will work fine (the last several years).

Appreciate the help so far guys.

Just a reminder, the webinar set for Saturday is a TEST event -- do not pay attention to the webinar description & graphics. Dr Brett's event is next week, and I am working my butt off trying to get everything ready to host on our new framework!

We need your help, still!

Tomorrow, Saturday, at 4:30PM Eastern, please do login to the TEST EVENT and help us test the live webinar settings.

You should receive an email 1 hour prior to the start of event with a join URL.

Also, the URL we've been sharing (repeated below) should also work automatically once the event goes live. When live, that URL should automatically switch over and send you straight to the live event.

With the new framework that I've built from scratch, we have the ability to control everything! It's nice, but a lot of work.

Hi guys,

This morning, an incorrect email went out that had our {$variables} in it. Oops. A correction was sent an hour later or so, regarding Wednesday's big webinar.

We updated this email template a bit. I hope for greater compatibility across all email service providers. Please report any problems.

As of now, we are also showing the pop-up for the event. I know people don't like pop-ups in general, but it's usually the best way to inform people of an upcoming event they may be interested in.

This popup was redesigned a bit, and was fighting me to be shown correctly on desktop & mobile. Please report any problems with the popup, like if it is displaying off-screen.

Ok... earlier today the popup came up, on macbook pro 13", it was off screen, and I've attached a screenshot of the full Safari browser view, and the site was not zoomed in at all.

this will get you to the homepage. there's a window for registration (instead of the twitter feed), but it's not a pop-up.

Regarding the change to right side of posts:



I'm looking for feedback. This little section switches randomly between the current Poll, current Webinar, or Twitter, depending ...

Part of our new webinar framework is that we have a linked database for each webinar that points to who presented (or multiple presenters). So we have headshots, and other info, for each presenter.

Right now, we are only showing their headshot and name here in this section. In the webinar emails, you'll see more -- headshot, name, short bio (under name), plus longer bio (under photo).

Later, when we roll out more of the new webinar framework (YouTube-like), you'll see options for their Email, Website, YouTube, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

But for this particular post -- I am just asking for your thoughts on the changes so far.

Cool. Here and there, I want to start converting things to HTML5 and responsive. I couldn't do it yet today on the home page, but it will be one of the easier ones overall to convert to responsive (still difficult).

On the poll colors, I didn't think I would like it much from the screen shot, but when I logged onto the site I thought it was cool.

One suggestion: the old poll had a colored strip going all the way across (representing 100%), and then the bar advanced to the right showing the poll number. But there was a contrast between the full length that it could extend and the actual length, which I think helped to visually see how far each response was in terms of the total.

The new poll just does not have that colored strip -- the bar for the poll numbers is just shown against the background color. I think that having the differntly-colored strip helps to quickly visualize the numbers, and it would be a good idea to put it back in.

But overall, I like the poll much better now.

The editor to write posts is now slightly larger, with the unused smilies at bottom now eliminated. You can access the smilies from the toolbar, it will popup a list.

I was thinking of putting the actual vote numbers (361 votes) down to the right of the graph, to save space on top for longer question text.

I'll work to add a contrast color back. I just couldn't find a color I liked.

The editor to write posts is now slightly larger, with the unused smilies at bottom now eliminated. You can access the smilies from the toolbar, it will popup a list.

Eventually, I'll add support for emoji's.

Mike, I was just replying to a post and I wanted to put in a smily. I went looking for one to pick, and I found the popup extremely user-unfriendly and harder to use than the old list that used to be there at the bottom.

I know that I am a serial abuser of smilies (I was going to put in the one with the big toothy grin in this sentence, right here, but it's too big a pain in the ass to look for it now), but I strongly ask that you put it back as it was.

The editor is simpler now, but not as easy to use. At least for me. (I know how to put in this basic smily face by typing, and it isn't worth it to look for another.)

Please help smily addicts by restoring the old functionality. I am facing withdrawal symptoms already. (I remembered how to type this one now, too. I'm not likely to use the popup much.)

@FT71 said in his trader's bit today that it was open to the public, not for Elite members only. So it must be a bug.

Correct. Like most webinars, it is Elite only.

If you are a member of Dr Brett or Morad's audience, they have a special link code that will enable access for you.

Hi guys,

OK, wow. Everything was fine last night when I went to bed. Today, I leisurely drank my coffee and chatted with my wife on the sofa.

Then I made it to my desk, and --- uhm. Ouch.

Let me make this post so I can point everyone to it:

- This is a new framework and new system we've created
- We've used the old system for more than 10 years, and perfected it
- New system is far more powerful, and being actively designed
- We tested, tested, tested, didn't run into these issues

- Most people experienced one of these two problems today:
--> One, new FIO user: created FIO account. Clicked webinars, told Elite only.
--> or Two, existing FIO user, tried to register for webinar, told registration was disabled.

Understand that when presenters come do webinars, we give special codes to them to bypass Elite on our side, but only for their existing audience that are members of their systems. For item one above, the process made it hard to understand this for many, resulting in confusion and error messages. We will resolve this prior to the next event.

Shane @Rrrracer did his best to solve problems as tweets and emails started pouring in. I did not train him on this type of issue, so it is not his fault.

Bottom line:
You must register for the webinar using FIO's system. You **cannot** use Zoom's, it won't work.

If anyone couldn't get in prior to right now, I am letting you know that now you can. I went ahead and opened up this webinar to everyone instead of the normal Elite only.

OK, let me see what I can do

I can just make the smiley icon on the editor toolbar trigger to "unhide" the box at the bottom of the editor. But I need some time to code that, and today there are other things going on

Hi Mike,
I have a vertical monitor. Previously I could view the website with no problems as it seemed to scale to fit so I could see the full width of a thread. This morning I have to scroll from left to right to read each line of a thread, or reduce the page magnification down to 80% so it fits my monitor and I can see the full width of the text.
(Also the forum name has changed to "Big Mike Trading" in a type face that looks like it's from a few decades ago)

Most browsers will allow you to shrink/grow the page as needed for your preference.
Press CTRL + Plus or Minus key to grow/shrink the page to the size you like.

Yes, thanks, as I said if I drop down to 80% magnification it looks okay, but previously the pages viewed with no issue.

Mike, just got the email that the webinar recording is up. I was able to go to the recording and view it, so no problem there.

There are some minor formatting issues with the email itself, which are not terribly important but make it a little less easy to understand:

1. It says near the top "We are sorry you couldn't attend," but I did attend.

2. It then has text that says "Webinar recording:" but then there is a big blank space with nothing to click.

3. The large graphic further down the page says "Register Now!" but it's not for registration any more. When you click it, you go to the recording. At this point it should say something like "Go to recording now."




It all works, but is a little rough. I understand this is the first time out the gate with the new system. It did get the job done.

Appreciate the feedback @bobwest.

1. Known bug now, will work on it.

2. Yes, I have been fighting the CSS for many tests now. Thought I had it for every possibility, but some were still haywire. I believe the next one will actually be correct. (actually, I sent a second email immediately after to everyone, with corrected styling, I hope).

3. See new attachment below, this will be our new format going forward. It is ambiguous, without "register now" or "recording!". I think this will work.

Hey guys,

Wow. What a difficult 25 hours it's been. Here is the instant replay from Twitter and our down message:

April 4th 2021 approx 5:30PM ET: Our data center experienced an electrical outage. Generators ran as expected, but then an anomaly occurred which led to damage. All servers went off-line.

11:30PM ET: Just received an update. The electrical problem was severe. Fire suppression systems kicked in. Right now, the data center still has no power, because they are waiting for an emergency inspector to clear the systems and building.

The data center has advised us that many systems have extensive water damage due to the fire suppression systems. We are not sure if our servers do, or don't.

If we choose to restore from off-site backups, we lose 17 hours of database sync (posts, uploads, new users, memberships, everything past midnight until 5pm). In our history of 11 years, we've never lost a single post, much less 17 hours of content. Our primary backup server was on-site in the same data center, with minute-by-minute snapshots of our database.

I'm making the decision to "hold" for tonight, get some sleep, and wait for more news from the data center in the morning. Hopefully, specific news regarding our servers and their status, at least the 8TB NVMe storage array that holds our database and files. Even if the rest of the server is lost, possibly that component could be salvaged.

April 5 morning: Data center isn't providing much useful info. Sounds like they are still waiting for the inspector. I have begun the process of restoring from an off-site backup.

April 5 afternoon: Off-site restore progress: database servers 100%, email 100%, app servers 100%, web servers 100%, caching servers 100%. The problem is the file server has a huge amount of file attachments (screenshots, indicators, etc) and the site cannot be brought on-line without them. Currently estimating 7pm Eastern US.

7:30 PM Eastern: Site is on-line.

Let me discuss what has been LOST.

Our off-site backups were only up until midnight April 4. New user registrations, posts, Elite memberships, uploads, etc - made after midnight on April 4, and until approx 5:30PM April 4 when the site went down due to the data center fire, have been lost.

In more than 11 years, we've never lost a single post. It pains me that we lost 17 hours of data, but there was simply no way around it.

Our primary and our secondary backup servers were both in the same data center, but on different hardware. This backup was minute-by-minute (real-time without the performance loss).

Unfortunately, our off-site was only nightly at midnight. So in the event of a literal FIRE, like this, we lost that data.

I will be updating our disaster recovery to make it minute-by-minute off-site as well soon.

RIGHT NOW: We are running at a new data center, on new hardware. The site will be a bit slower until we can figure out a long term solution, please bear with us. If you find any problems, please report them here.

Good question, thanks:

a) I have reached out to the people that became Elite Members during that period, and have already manually upgraded them

b) I tried to reach out to people who created new user accounts in general (to the site), but due to a completely unrelated problem that just so happened to coincide with yesterday, I don't have their email addresses

c) The data center will "evaluate" our servers and see what condition they are in, supposedly in two days. When this happens, if the database and file system are mountable, then we CAN view some meta details such as:

-> posts
-> new users
-> direct messages

However, it will be impossible for us to "restore" these items and merge them into the live production system. Once we made the decision to stop waiting for the data center, there was no turning back.

We can, however, find out the names of the people involved with these items, and reach out to them, and ask them to resubmit the content.

Known issue:

Somehow, our crontab was not backed up (still investigating). This means that some scheduled tasks will not run until I can manually re-create everything.

That involves (at least) the following:

- Headers on top of every thread, showing posts/replies/thanks data
- User reputation scores & promotions
- The "best threads" block on home page, and top of threads
- The "questions" needing answers block, home & top of threads

No doubt, other things.

Please report any issues...

Correct, it is impossible for us to recreate them.

There is more to simply dumping the data into the database. When a post is created, a lot of stuff happens in the background. And the two databases are now out-of-sync, so the data is considered "lost" but "viewable".

Yes, including indicator/download section.

BTW, above language of "viewable" is assuming the data center gives us good news in a few days with the old servers damaged in the fire and water damage.

A difficult decision, but the right one. As it stands, there is no guarantee that the data center will be able to get anything off of any of the affected servers, and the best they can offer is that perhaps it will be in two days.

Biting this bullet and moving on is the only realistic thing for any business in this situation. I expect that there are other businesses who used this data center and who are in much worse shape without their data, but they are going to face the same decision, if they have not made it already.

I hope you can get something that is of use out of those servers, but sometimes you just do what you've got to do.

We had a 100% SLA, and for every 15 minutes of downtime, we receive 1 full day free. So, should we decide to return to this data center (?), we are looking at around 250-300 days of free server hosting. Assuming it takes them two days from now to get our old hardware rebuilt, which I think is probably optimistic... those 8TB NVMe cards aren't easy to come by! And we had two...

Thanks for reporting. @bobwest already had me fix it once, lol, but yes this "fix" was lost during the crash and had to be re-applied. Good to go as of now.

Hi guys,

There has been a problem with our newsletter system since we had to migrate (forcefully) to a new temporary server.

I have a work-around in place as of right now.

I do believe that a small number of users, around 100, probably received many duplicate emails today as I was doing testing before realizing what was happening.

Our newsletters always send in an order based on who has most recently logged in, meaning the fists people to receive our emails are always the users that most recently visited our site.

Apologies if you were one of these ~100 that received many duplicates. I didn't realize that a tiny % of emails were actually working, I though it was not working at all.

OK, so in other news, newsletter is going out now. Slowly. This temp server is nothing compared to our last server...

For those interested in these details -- I am currently doing my due diligence to find a new data center, and then have a new server built for us.

I do hope that within the next 2 weeks, we can migrate to a new server (again) that is equal or better in terms of performance to what we had previously.

Hey guys,

Wow. What a difficult 25 hours it's been. Here is the instant replay from Twitter and our down message:

April 4th 2021 approx 5:30PM ET: Our data center experienced an electrical outage. Generators ran as expected, but then an anomaly occurred which led to damage. All servers went off-line.

11:30PM ET: Just received an update. The electrical problem was severe. Fire suppression systems kicked in. Right now, the data center still has no power, because they are waiting for an emergency inspector to clear the systems and building.

The data center has advised us that many systems have extensive water damage due to the fire suppression systems. We are not sure if our servers do, or don't.

If we choose to restore from off-site backups, we lose 17 hours of database sync (posts, uploads, new users, memberships, everything past midnight until 5pm). In our history of 11 years, we've never lost a single post, much less 17 hours of content. Our primary backup server was on-site in the same data center, with minute-by-minute snapshots of our database.

I'm making the decision to "hold" for tonight, get some sleep, and wait for more news from the data center in the morning. Hopefully, specific news regarding our servers and their status, at least the 8TB NVMe storage array that holds our database and files. Even if the rest of the server is lost, possibly that component could be salvaged.

April 5 morning: Data center isn't providing much useful info. Sounds like they are still waiting for the inspector. I have begun the process of restoring from an off-site backup.

April 5 afternoon: Off-site restore progress: database servers 100%, email 100%, app servers 100%, web servers 100%, caching servers 100%. The problem is the file server has a huge amount of file attachments (screenshots, indicators, etc) and the site cannot be brought on-line without them. Currently estimating 7pm Eastern US.

7:30 PM Eastern: Site is on-line.

Let me discuss what has been LOST.

Our off-site backups were only up until midnight April 4. New user registrations, posts, Elite memberships, uploads, etc - made after midnight on April 4, and until approx 5:30PM April 4 when the site went down due to the data center fire, have been lost.

In more than 11 years, we've never lost a single post. It pains me that we lost 17 hours of data, but there was simply no way around it.

Our primary and our secondary backup servers were both in the same data center, but on different hardware. This backup was minute-by-minute (real-time without the performance loss).

Unfortunately, our off-site was only nightly at midnight. So in the event of a literal FIRE, like this, we lost that data.

I will be updating our disaster recovery to make it minute-by-minute off-site as well soon.

RIGHT NOW: We are running at a new data center, on new hardware. The site will be a bit slower until we can figure out a long term solution, please bear with us. If you find any problems, please report them here.
