Doesn't that question also apply to the 'mic' icon?
My understanding is that they both represent 'thread starter.'
Or am I missing something?
But to answer your question, it makes sense to me ... since he started the thread.
The original issue was that the mic icon does not intuitively cause a reader to think, "Ah! s/he must be the thread starter." IMO, that intuitive response would be more like if the icon were one of a first place ribbon, or something along those lines:
Again, let me know if I'm misunderstanding something.
(BTW, my other choice was an icon of an arm/hand shooting a starter's gun)
Enhance "Follow" thread button (at top of thread) so it respects default value of Subscription type for member (instant, daily, weekly). Currently it is forced to Instant only. They can be modified by user after the fact, but it should default …
This is now done. Please report any problems, and it would be great if you could also report that it is working correctly for you.
Basically, it should follow your existing subscription preferences now. If you had no subscription, no email, daily, weekly etc, it should respect that.
My problem is that I can't think of a picture that unambiguously conveys the idea of "Thread Starter." This may not be a case of a picture being worth a thousand words.
If an icon is not already in wide use, I think it usually is not all that understandable. Think of all the computer system icons that are familiar and second-nature to us. Except for a very few, they probably meant very little until we got used to them (Exceptions: hourglass or the current twirling circle for "wait".) If there is no standardized icon for something, it gets tough to think of one, which means that probably users would find it hard to recognize if they saw it.

Agree. OTOH, using an icon that is already used by Google, phone apps, and others to mean 'record,' as something other than that, is the other side of the coin.
But there's hope. The 'gear' icon is now well-known to mean 'settings.' That was learned, and not really intuitive. Same with the '3 lines,' or 'hamburger' icon ('menu'). Mike will just have to start a 'thread starter' icon trend.

Automatically select your journal thread based on the newest thread you create in journal section(s). Many members leave the profile field blank because they don't know it's there. Determining it automatically will help others find the journals …
In addition, you will receive an automatic direct message letting you know this action has been taken.
All of this is triggered upon viewing your own journal. I worked to implement this today to make it a better experience for our February Journal Challenge, located here:
This site for some reason truncates urls if you just paste the url into the text box rather than use the "insert link" button if they have a # in them. All of SierraChart docs links for the ACSIL functions and methods have urls with this # in them so its has been hard to point users to the function you are trying to direct them to until I just noticed that the button doesn't shorten the link!
for example,
2021-01-30 14_19_24-ACSIL Interface Members - Functions - Sierra Chart
The above url gets posted here if I use the insert link button as,

The journal challenge is a recurring event here, and I am proud of it - because of how much it can help traders!
I've now completed the feature that will allow real-time updates for the journal challenge:
As you browse our community threads, you'll see this real-time list updating. Follow along in the journal threads and make your voice heard by voting for your favorites -- using the thanks button -- so that journal authors can win!
You should also start your own journal, for your own chance to win!

Made a change to prevent new post subscription emails for going out for the "Introduce yourself" thread.
The reasoning being that each new post triggers thousands of emails, and it can be overwhelming -- especially for new members.
I have a suspicion that we actually lose a lot of good potential members here because they end up getting "spammed" with introduce yourself emails, and perhaps they hit the Unsubscribe button and accept the links -- which is to remove all emails of any kind going forward (so they never hear from us again).
Another possibility is that they simply mark the whole range of "introduce yourself" emails as spam in their email software, which automatically triggers an unsubscription on our side from all emails as well.
If any of you are subscribed and currently receiving emails to that thread, would you please kindly tell me whether or not you have stopped getting them as of now (going forward from this post).

Updates to the editor toolbar, to drastically reduce the number of confusing icons.
With the updates I've been making to the site, these buttons simply aren't necessary any longer. The system should automatically figure out what you are wanting to do.

Spent the morning optimizing some thread caching routines. Found a couple of areas for huge improvements, like 100x over increase after I applied some techniques I've learned to old routines.
End result, thread display should be significantly faster. I've noticed most threads are loading 40-50% faster, for example in 90ms vs 140ms.
Speaking of milliseconds, I've modified the footer of the site to display page load time in milliseconds instead of seconds.

LOL, all of my spare time this week has been devoted to learning some new Cryptocurrencies. The things these new tokens are coming up with in DeFi and the blockchain are just amazing. Far more interesting than Silver.

How confident can you be on some of these new DeFi opportunities without personally auditing the code? That's what really scares me about DeFi and has kept me away.
The day was good. Silver spreads don't trade enough so difficult to make it a really good day, So lots of odd lots when in NG or CL it would have been 100s of spreads. Can't complain though. HK had a 50c range, KN a 30c range, NU 17c range and UZ a 20c range. Pretty crazy for a commodity that has a hard storage cap on spread values!

Cleaning up another item:
You still zoom the image like normal, but this outdated "warning" is no longer useful and it has been removed.
If you are still seeing it, you'll have to wait for your javascript css cache to expire (up-to 7 days), or you can force it right now by doing a Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + (reload icon) in your browser.
On the Thread Starter question, currently this only shows if the person starting the thread is an Elite member. Non-Elite members may start a thread, but they are not designated that way.
I was reading a trade journal this morning, and I couldn't remember if someone who made the post I was reading was the person whose journal it was. I had to go back to the first page to check that.
There may be reasons to not have the other icons for non-Elite users, but I think that marking the "Thread Starter," whether Elite of not, would add clarity and would be useful.

I noticed this morning that my change is only working for instant thread subscriptions. Members that have daily or weekly subscriptions are still receiving updates for the Introduce yourself thread.

Small backend change for cached images. Previously pointed to bmcharts.com domain, now pointing to futures.io.
If you see any problems with images in posts not showing correctly, please let me know. This is the feature that takes images from non-FIO domains and grabs them, stores them on our server, so that they are cached. This not only makes the images load faster in the future, but most importantly it ensures the images are always visible should they be unavailable or deleted in the future from the original source.
I can't see why it would. But I also can't see any big negative in it either. I don't expect it would get much use, off the top of my head. Perhaps some thread starters might care, but probably not the average reader.... Just my initial reaction.

Any chance of bringing back the hyperlink button? While the the system does recognize that I am entering a hyperlink it does not format it to allow for the friendly link. We are left with the big ugly link vs something which is something more descriptive and useful.
I think I agree with this. I was thinking that I would just remember the proper syntax for the link that substitutes a text string for the normal url, as Robert illustrated, but the fact is that I would not. I also, frankly, don't want to learn it if I can just have a tool to do it with.
So my vote is also to bring it back, or otherwise provide the functionality.

Hi everyone,
I want to welcome @Rrrracer to the FIO team today, as Webinar Host. I asked Shane to come aboard and help our community by taking over as much responsibility with the webinars as possible, freeing up my time to focus on development of the site in other areas.
Terry @tturner86 is transitioning to his new Marketing Strategist role, where he is also going to focus on all things Marketing in order to take as much responsibility as possible off of me in this area, so I can again focus on development of the site in other areas.
I am excited about these new changes. It is my strong belief that this will help catapult us forward to new excited times
Today's webinar with the CME Group about Ethereum futures will be Terry's last as Webinar Host. Shane will start beginning next week! Please give him some time to ramp up, it's a lot of work!
Welcome @Rrrracer to the FIO team, get the party started and best of luck for your new task!

Discovered an issue with my script logic for the webinar popups.
In the event that you registered for the event via email, prior to visiting the website, you could potentially see the popup even though you just registered for the event via email.
I modified the logic so this should no longer happen. Will need further testing to confirm, please share your feedback.
The webinar events popup should only appear:
- 48 hours or less prior to event
- You haven't previously registered
And a side note, yes I am working to make the popup less obtrusive. I am currently working on new functions that I am building to handle event popups site-wide including new @ mentions, new direct messages, and webinar events.
EDIT: damn, moments later I had to disable it. We exceeded our API request limit with Google, I need to do some caching.

Change made for outbound emails that contain quoted content, thanks to @kevinkdog. I've been trying to get outbound emails to not contain quoted content, because it messes up formatting most of the time. It should contain only the post reply itself.
Hopefully with the most recent change, this behavior is working. The last change I made was a few days ago.
Let me know, look at the thread subscription emails.

If you look at this post here...
There is no end line/return/whatever you want to call it after the "Algo's"/URL link. The /URL tag appears to be adding an end line/return/whatever you want to call it character.

Last several days I have been getting notification emails that include the quoted text but not the quote tags. Makes reading the notification emails far less clear what is a reply and what is a quote.

This is more of a question since its possible that this functionality is already there somewhere, but is it possible for user viewing FIO to have some kind of timer (displayed on home page/main site page) to upcoming webinar set in accordance with their local time?
//I have no idea how forum programing works, or how difficult this could be, so please forgive if this requires lot more than what I'm thinking with my silly brain atm.

Today was @Rrrracer's very first webinar as Webinar Host, and Shane did a great job!
That also means that today marked @tturner86's last webinar as Webinar Host, and I wanted to thank Terry for his time & great work over the last 5 or so years he has been Webinar Host! Terry is not leaving FIO, he is just transitioning into a Marketing Specialist role where he will be helping to expose our community to new people!

Small update to the automatic journal setting feature, that sets your journal in your profile field automatically. It will now also consider the last post date/time if you have multiple journals, before updating your profile field.

Hey guys,
Now you can post any image link, and the system will automatically embed the image for you. No need to wrap it in bbcode (IMG), or download it and re-upload here, etc. No need to even link it.
Today is first day with this feature enabled, so I am needing feedback. Please take a look at your threads and journals for any strange behavior. If something has changed (for the worse) please report it (use Report button, or link the permalink here). That way I can take a look at your exact example.
I purged the cache when this change was made. So page loading times may be slightly slower while the cache rebuilds for the next day or so.
I just edited the title of a thread to fix a spelling error, and it took the change OK, except the original spelling is still shown in the heading at the top of the page. Everywhere else, it is fine.
FYI, I just fixed the title of this thread, from "Time and sales coding in ASCIL" to read "Time and sales coding in ACSIL." (Switched the order of the S and C.) I kept wondering what was bugging me about the title, until I said it out …

Found a bug thanks to @the edge whereby if you had undelieverable email, received the notice from our system, and updated your email address to a different email prior to resetting/clearing the notice by following the link, you would not be able to clear the link at all.
