Thread tags have been re-enabled (testing SEO theory).

I've moved them to bottom of thread page, so they won't disrupt visually.

Email notification issue

I'm having a strange issue with email notifications of new posts to threads I'm subscribed to. When I click on View Newest Post (or any of the other buttons), the page just flickers and still displays the email notice. It won't go over to FIO.

This also happens when I go into my Trash folder and try to access a FIO post through an old, deleted email notice that had worked when I first received it. Even though it worked then, now it doesn't.

All other, non-FIO, email links are working fine.

This began happening last night, and I assumed it would just clear up, but it hasn't.

I'm on Chrome Version 70.0.3538.77 (Official Build) (32-bit). Email client is Gmail, whatever the current version is.

Bob.

Depending on the email client you use, you should be able to see (usually in the bottom left corner of the screen) a URL to the FIO link the email points to. This is visible when hovering the mouse on the link. I attach an example screenshot here.

Are you able to see one of the URLs and could you post either a link or a screenshot?

I don't know if it will help Mike with the troubleshooting process, but it might.

Thanks Bob. That screenshot looks like it's of a notification to you of my earlier post. Are you observing this issue you reported on that email too, or is the issue related only to new posts? I hope my question makes sense.

The issue appears on every recent FIO email notification, including your earlier post. It happens with the notice I just got of the post you just made, which I am quoting above. I had to go to the main FIO page and respond from there.

As I mentioned, it also applies to older email notices in my Trash folder that worked fine yesterday when I viewed their posts. They don't work now either, but they did then. This started last night and has continued -- but only for FIO emails -- since then.

I doubt that the emails from FIO are in some way faulty, since the previous notifications used to work but don't now. My assumption would be that either there is something that recently happened on my PC that only affects the FIO emails (which I think is doubtful), or that Gmail changed something yesterday that affects how it processes them. Also, no other source of email notifications and links, such as newspapers I subscribe to, is having a problem. There may be something about the FIO links that Gmail doesn't like any more, I suppose.

It would be useful to know if any other Gmail user is having this issue.

Bob.

Sorry, I had missed that.

Hopefully others using Gmail can verify if they are having the same problem.

Need to hear from other Gmail users to get an idea if it's isolated or not.

You're right of course, there is no way to solve this until we know if it's a general Gmail issue or not.

Since I am going nuts from this, I'm just going to ask members who have mentioned Gmail in the past on this thread if they are having any issues in opening their FIO email notifications.

I found these members in a Search of this thread for mentions of "gmail." I hope no one feels I'm spamming them, and if so I apologize, but if you see this and are still using Gmail, can you confirm that you can click on the "View Newest Post" button and go to the post on FIO, or if you are having a problem with it. At least one other Gmail user saying Yes or No will be a help.

Also, apologies if you're no longer using Gmail .

@bobwest,

I'm still using gmail.

in that "mention notification" there're 3 buttons:

- view mentioned post
- view list of mentions
- modify alert settings

I can access all of them via the email. but only when I'm logged in. if I'm not logged in, then the fio pages are flickering.
