First, in general I strongly dislike Twitter. But the fact is, it is an excellent tool for traders. News is instant on Twitter, and it is easy to aggregate information or filter it for what you are looking for. I am using Twitter as a tool for my trading.
Second, I encourage futures.io (formerly BMT) members to send me their marked up charts and analysis. You can just mention @bigmiketrading and send your charts, and then I will re-tweet them. We'll see how this goes, I am playing it by ear for now. For the best presentation, you will want to use either twitter.com to upload your chart images, or use a Twitter client that automatically uses twitpic.com. With either of these, the images will be automatically embedded on the futures.io (formerly BMT) homepage twitter stream, as well as in most twitter clients. Using services like screencast or etc are not recommended for Twitter.
Third, I've made it easy to embed tweets into posts now. This is very helpful when you want to report news or an event. The format is as follows:
The bbcode is as follows:
[tweet]status-id[/tweet]
Where "status-id" is equal to a Twitter status number, like "256581819154198528".
I've also made it so that it auto-embeds images if they were posted using twitpic. I will see about adding other image services later. The above example shows this.
You can get a Twitter status # by clicking on the time/date link on a tweet, or from your twitter client.
You can create multiple columns to filter on hashtags, lists, or users. It has lots of options and the developer has been responsive to my feedback, which is very important to me.
Basically any client is better than using the web version of twitter.com, you should try to avoid that.
With MetroTwit, I can just Ctrl-V paste images from my clipboard and it automatically uploads them to twitpic and embeds. You can also drag files(images) into it for the same effect. But the ability to Ctrl-V is huge for me, because I mark-up in SnagIt then just copy to clipboard and paste into MetroTwit.
You could setup filters on things like $ES_F if you want to focus on ES trades, or #FT71 if you want to see what FuturesTrader71 and his followers are saying.
You can also create your own Twitter lists, and put users into a list so you can easily follow or filter within that list.
Hi Mike, so I posted a quick chat about two months ago about the fact that I could not open the futures.io (formerly BMT) homepage using Chrome but all other futures.io (formerly BMT) pages were okay.
You mentioned you had no issues, so I left it at that and have had to put up with not being able to access the homepage using Chrome on my laptop. It is fine if I use IE. It is also fine on the iPhone and iPad. Finally my son can open the homepage fine on his laptop using Chrome.
So that meant the problem is on my laptop and something to do with a conflict with Chrome as I used to be able to access the homepage.
So I tried everything a Google search threw up: uninstalled Chrome and re-installed and created new Chrome profiles, but still the home page would hang and then the Chrome 'Aw Snap' message would appear.
But just the other day I noticed when it would hang that sometimes I would have a little message at the bottom saying 'waiting for platform.twitter.com'.
I then recalled that the problem started about the time you put Twitter on the home page.
im still new to twitter and use it mostly to follow tech/trading stuffs. if you are going to add the img embed for another service the native twitter one would be neato. thanks for this!
dont believe anything you hear and only half of what you see
You can do the same with Ghostery. It block the Twitter Timeline and other social things that can slow down the website... You can also edit what to block and what not to block... on futures.io (formerly BMT) for example it block the Polls, too.
