There obviously has to be a way to quantify inclusion into any group that is being set apart from others. The term "wizard" implies a certain level of experience and current practice that is above and beyond the other "mere mortals" on the forum, and in some cases may indeed be a misnomer.

Contribution to the forum is a metric that is performance based, and is certainly quantifiable, i.e., Fat Tails, Gomi, et al. It is quite logical, but would severely limit membership, because few could measure up to their level of added value.

That being said, this is a position of honor and prestige, that should only be bestowed upon an elite few, not unlike the Knights of the Roundtable, and therefore should only be determined by the King.

I kind of like the sound of...Sir Fat Tails!

Since we are talking about ranking we can pick rank from here Royal and noble ranks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or here List of comparative military ranks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and pick a metal from Metal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Just call me Iron Marshall. There are also pick of colors or elements but that could be overkill.

After I've told all my friends that I am now officially a Market Wizard -- you threaten to revoke the title?

How will I be able to save face?

On a serious note, I am far from a Market Wizard and I don't really have any objections against being "demoted" back to the populace...

I am still the coolest dude I know regardless!

As a former market wizard, I must confess I was never comfortable with the title. It implies a certain level of trading skill I just did not possess.

However, I do like the term "Wizard". Therefore I would like to suggest a slight modification of the term to reflect a higher emphasis on the Thanks Given/Thanks Received ration along with a longer period of membership required before being eligible for the title.

I would also like to suggest changing the term from Market Wizard to Forum Wizard or something similar. Others more creative than I can finalize that decision.

Just my two cents.....

Not a very important question. There should not be hundreds of wizards, 20 is just about right.

The quality of the posts should be more important than the sheer number.

The only way to measure quality seems to be the number of thanks received for the posts, as this is sort of a valdiation of that the posts have benefited other members.

Not a very important question.

Hey we gotta have some un-important discussions every now and then

I always thought that quality is better than quantity and not quality=quantity

Let me tease you at least on not very important questions

I have to agree with @tigertrader that "Wizard" is a misnomer on this site... and also with @Lornz, because I myself I am far from a wizard.. but I do understand the desire to reward and make known those that contribute and add value to the site... I think that perhaps you just need to come up with a new naming... or better yet, go with color ranking instead and forgo the whole naming thing...

IMO, titles are for those that care... I have worked with PhD's on my lifetime that were, well, pretty much clueless.. same goes for MBAs, Managing Directors, SVPs, EVPs... you name it... so a title means very little in reality... it only means something to those that find value on it..and it tends to bother those that cant achieve it due to whatever reasons... so I think it is just best to reward those that participate with color ranking... or with medals for participation levels... by doing so, you take away the perception of newbies that someone that is a "wizard" knows it all (which we all know that is not the case)...

just my 2 cents towards your decision making process...

I'm looking for some good suggestions for renaming it-- something "cooler" than "futures.io (formerly BMT) Addict"

Synonyms, Thesaurus & Antonyms of 'wizard' Princeton's WordNet

1. (noun) ace, adept, champion, sensation, maven, mavin, virtuoso, genius, hotshot, star, superstar, whiz, whizz, wizard, wiz
someone who is dazzlingly skilled in any field
Synonyms: esthesis, wiz, whiz, brain, one, sense, asterisk, maven, protagonist, ace, paladin, angiotensin-converting enzyme, unity, whizz, friend, headliner, thaumaturgist, principal, sensory faculty, necromancer, thaumaturge, booster, lead, sense experience, hotshot, brilliance, hero, star topology, wizardry, mavin, brainiac, single, sensation, genius, star, title-holder, angiotensin converting enzyme, sense datum, flair, virtuoso, fighter, wizard, magician, supporter, sorcerer, aesthesis, sense impression, adept, sentience, superstar, champ, mastermind, admirer, champion, sentiency
Antonyms: natural

2. (adj) sorcerer, magician, wizard, necromancer, thaumaturge, thaumaturgist
one who practices magic or sorcery
Synonyms: illusionist, star, conjuror, thaumaturge, virtuoso, sensation, champion, superstar, whiz, mavin, genius, prestidigitator, ace, conjurer, necromancer, magician, hotshot, maven, wiz, thaumaturgist, adept, wizard, sorcerer, whizz
Antonyms: natural

Personally I like futures.io (formerly BMT) Ace or Virtuoso, you could use stars or another symbol to grade different levels

I am a Market Wizard. I can read a chart, I can read price action, I know why an indicator does what it does. Now, I never expected to have the moniker of Market Wizard but I met the standards of Big Mike, el jefe. Market Wizard means I met those standards, nothing else.

Any other replacement title is BORING. Synonyms: monotonous, tedious, irksome, tiresome, humdrum. These adjectives refer to what is so uninteresting as to cause mental weariness.

Market Wizards come and Market Wizards go here on futures.io (formerly BMT). As I will someday...........
