Market Wizards come and Market Wizards go here on futures.io (formerly BMT). As I will someday...........

Sounds very much like "Ave, Caesar, morituri te salutant"

I think Mike was clear on post #1, he is expecting suggestions and not disagreements

Hi All,

Even though I'm a vender now, this title thing has been a sore spot with me.

Market Wizard status can be attained by just posting a zillion times here on the forum.

It does not really have anything to do with market expertise.

I propose two titles "Market Wizard" and "Programming Wizard".

The only way to achieve either of these titles is to be voted these titles by the other members here.

Candidates can be nominated, and voted on by polling the members at fixed intervals.

The current system is a joke!!!!

RJay

When first i started to read the forum, i was confused by the term itself.
I have to agree with Panda that "Forum Wizard" is a perfect term because that's what it really is (don't get me wrong, i greatly respect those who have the title and they share great stuff)

Not a very important question. There should not be hundreds of wizards, 20 is just about right.

The quality of the posts should be more important than the sheer number.

The only way to measure quality seems to be the number of thanks received for the posts, as this is sort of a valdiation of that the posts have benefited other members.

I agree with Fat Tails. The percentange of users in this group seem to suggest that the formula is working pretty well. I think the objection that most people have is to the actual term 'Wizzard'. Maybe if the title is renamed to something else like VIP, or Valued or Respected Contributor, or something that more closely describes the intent of the title, then people may not have as much objection. Star ranking is pretty universal, and people immediately recognize and identify with that, so that might be an idea.

Looks like there are a little bit over 18,000 members @ futures.io (formerly BMT).

If you figure there are 20 Wizards, that encompasses 0.1% of the population.

Well.... maybe you say the majority of those 18K are inactive and don't post or even read the forums? So if you take ¼ of that 18K, you wind up with Wizards being ~ 0.4% of the population. Still a bit less than 1%.

Ok, so if you decide not even ¼ of that population is active and reading the forums. So if you then consider that maybe 1000 futures.io (formerly BMT) members are active and posting, or at the very least reading the forums semi-regularly, Wizards make up ~ 2% of that population. Finally a number above 1%.

So in deciding what the requirements should be, I think it could be reasonable to decide how many of those 18K you would consider active, and then what % of the active population could be Wizards. Just a thought.

I suggest leaving the title "Market Wizard" as is.......................

I can think of no suitable substitute ...............futures.io (formerly BMT) is not a warm and fuzzy place ..............it's a hard core trading forum....

the least "thing" that could be done is to leave the red box name plate and ditch the verbal title "Market Wizard". But why????? There is nothing wrong with Market Wizard. If I read a post by a Market Wizard and it sounds dumb and I think he is a dope, then that's it, I am not influenced by title. (My) Common sense.

Correct, some market wizards produce more gossip than useful information.

I do not think that the distinction between market and programming wizards is necessary. Wizard is enough. If there are too many titles, games and points, the forum might attract the wrong type of members and become a kindergarten.

I like the person's suggestion of 'Forum Wizzard' rather then 'Market Wizzard'. Tt is more accurate.
