I'm always looking for ways to improve. I created the poll because I wanted input from others.
Yes, perhaps, but I will make it clear that the News and Current Events subforum is not to discuss politics or religion and should be kept on-point regarding trading only topics as much as possible.
Yes perhaps, but so far I've not seen any evidence of this so I'd like to leave those in place.
In such a case, like about a member missing, it can be posted in Traders Hideout.
Yes, I considered this as well. I'd like to hear from others to get a general consensus of the value of having "off topic". I stated my reasons in the first post.
I'm just one guy, but I hope the off-topic section doesn't get closed. But it appears I may be in the minority here.
I think it makes futures.io (formerly BMT) feel a bit more homely. I see what shows people like, what type of sense of humor they have, etc......
I think religion and politics puts some people off, imo that means maybe stay out of political threads? I personally don't look at too many of them on this forum. I have political forums I participate in for that.
But it is nice to see what some people find humorous, and what other tastes they have.
I guess my main point or question would be, if some guys don't like the off-topic forum, "why can't you just ignore it?" And maybe let those that do like to post in there enjoy it, particularly as long as it is kept clean?
I mean that if you want to create a thread to find other members for a "meet-up", then that is not really "off topic" so you can use Traders Hideout subforum to do this.
I also like a large number of the posts in off-topic. I created the section specifically so people could chat about non-trading stuff. I don't want to see them go.
But recently some topics have been real trouble makers. I could exercise "executive decision" and close such topics, but then it will be a fight over why I closed one and not the other, etc.
In the end, I don't want to see people get turned off from futures.io (formerly BMT) because off-topic conversations have gotten unruly and turned into heated arguments.
That is why I was just seeking input from members so I could see where people stand.
If you guys have advice on how I could restrict threads other than the "no politics or religion" let me know. The shameful thing is, some of the best off-topic threads in my opinion have been about politics. But some threads seem to have been created simply to cause a disruption. It is a fine line between encouraging a civil discussion or debate, and having it turn into a flame war when it is over a heated topic like politics.
The off-topic thread was designed as a place where non trading subjects can be discussed. Now BM and others want to close the thread because there happens to be material that is not to the liking to some. Simply put, if there is a thread you do not want to read than don't, move on.
BM is here to protect the exchange of ideas not to stop them, even the ones he may not like or approve of.

If you can't explain it to an eight year old it's to complicated
because I don't care about others people's politics and/or religion, beliefs. Each to their own. I am here for trading. And they should not care about mine. So stay out my face, you self-righteous bast............... I mean I rarely visit the off-topic forum area
