You need to consider both margin and volume. For E-mini 500 futures a relatively low margin is required if you do not go overnight. Volume creates liquidity so you may be able to close positions pretty quickly.

Which Emini Futures are worth trading?

There is a lot of info about just focusing on the Emini S&P 500.

But what about the Emini Dow, Emini Nasdaq, Emini Russell...and what about Emini Corn and Emini Soybeans etc., and Emicro EURUSD, and emini Euro Dollar etc.?

Is it that most of these don't have enough money per tick for some people and/or they move too slow, and most people don't want to open a trade and wait a long time for it to go into profit?

But today I opened 4 contracts on the Emini Dow earlier this morning on a $50,700 demo....and I thought I was stopped out right away...so I shut down the trading platform, and went out for the day.

When I came back this evening to my surprise my Emini Dow 4 contracts were still running and the account had gained $15,000 (I had used a large take profit target that was not hit.....)

This made me wonder why not many people are talking about trading Emini Dow or even Emini Nasdaq and Emini Russell etc.....and most seem to have narrowed their trading down to the Emini S&P 500.

Normally is this because most of the above mentioned (except for Emini S&P 500) in normal market conditions just don't move much each day?.

I was new to Futures beginning last week so from my viewpoint there is a ton of movement in most Emini contracts which is why I am wondering why people seem to only talk about the Emini S&P 500.

(Maybe this recent market movement is only because of the global fear of economic slow down so that all the market movement I am seeing in the Emini's is not the norm except for maybe the Emini S&P 500?)

I just started demo on Emini S&P... I was trading Forex and Stocks and considering these, Emini is a lot volatile and much tougher to swing because of the high risk. For now, I am learning to scalp Eminis and been better at scalping Emini than Forex.
Emini seems promising though and worth a shot if you already have a price action system in place...

If you are a scalper you need volatility.
Emini Russell is the most volatile. Swings are extreme in TF. Second most volatile is NQ but it is not as crazy as TF.
YM is thin but slow. ES is where the most volume is but slow.
Anybody scalping with size, ES is the instrument of choice.
Beginner or intermediate scalper, NQ is the best.
I love trading NQ.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the breakdown. I've been wondering about the NQ...

For my knowledge micro currency future were created by CME to surrogate best characteristic of forex market: low margin and fractional lots but judging on volume seems that they have failed, how so in your opinion?

Isnt the cost of mini's relatively high compared to normals? In terms of broker fees for round trip transaction.

Well in my experience if you're trading small like 1-3 contracts I actually prefer the mini YM over ES. Also, if you're scalping as you have more points of exit IE 10 YM ticks = $50.00 4 ES ticks = $50.00. But for anything else I prefer ES as for reasons mentioned like the liquidity and seems to backfill a little better than YM, but not sure if that's just in my head.

I would reccomend you paper trade for quite some time. You will quickly see you have made cash once but to do it consistent is harder then you think. Read. Read and read more study every book you can find on the subject

stick with the indicies ... mini sp, mini nasdaq, mini dow.
you are better off liquidity wise with normal size commodities (gold, silver, corn, etc.) and currencies, unless you just want to play around. those markets are thinner and you really need to enter on limits because the spread is a little wider.
