Where to get started with futures

Hello,
I want to explore futures(mostly the e-mini) but I'm a little lost with finding a broker (and choosing data provider?). I'm looking to open a demo account with a reliable broker and have access to tickcharts. Would prefer a straight forward registration that doesn't require too much paperwork since it's only a demo account and ideally free but if free tickcharts doesn't exist then I'm willing to pay a little fee. Someone who could give me some guidance, please?

Look at the webinars and threads about 'Where to start?' for beginners etc. they're all stickied threads so you should be able to find them with minimal effort.

I'm still a little lost. In forex you only choose a broker and that's it but in futures do you choose both a broker and data provider?

Correct.

Also, free futures account beyond 2 weeks are tough to find.

You could open a demo account with Oanda, which provides some futures proxies. Free permanently, though not quite the same.

Look up CFD brokers and open an account for a few bucks.(as little as $100) Then you can start practicing and trading basicly futures for very little. You get the charts and the data feed. If you can't find one I could recommend one...

This thread was created for me who started with trading forex and wanted to explore futures but it wasn't as straight forward to open a demo account in futures as it is with forex. However I finally opened a demo account and with a little more research it's not as messy as it was in the beginning. For those who is coming from forex and want to explore futures I suggest you to read the link below to have a little more knowledge about the futures market.

I'm not trying to advertise Sierra Chart but they were the only one who had a "dummy-explanation" for newbies

I wonder why brokers do not provide real-time data.
It sounds like the industry is a cartel, which I believe it is.

Futures are traded at exchanges, and these exchanges want to be paid for live quotes.

Hi,

I realize your question is a couple of weeks old, but you might want to consider TradeStation, as they can be the broker and data provider together. Their pricing is competitive, depending on what you are looking for (margin and such) and you don't have to fiddle with trying to integrate the data with the platform, which TS provides free if you use them for the broker. I've always run in to the finger pointing contest with who's problem is it when I have the data/broker/platform separated as everyone points to someone else and you are stuck with no help. I'd call them and see if they can hep you decide what is important for you and if they can help or not.
