Is trading NKD Nikkei futures the best choice for afternoon/evening trading?

I've been thinking that I could use some extra practice trading later in the day, and was considering NKD Nikkei futures on Interactive Brokers. Can anyone offer opinions about this idea?

hey there @tennon i used to actively look at ES futures ...still do but due to not being able to actively monitor futures due to time constraints have moved into swing equities for a bit. For some reason i think the best and brightest is @ US open and volume cannot be compared to any other time.

I think the best time was from an hour or so before US open. There seem to be enough clues which transpire thru the day for reflection if a trader desires. OTher than US markets at times when EU markets open....there is a flash in the pan for ES but not really which could supplement experience gained from US trading hrs...well that's just my opinion.

Sorry not sure if this moved away from the Nikkei trading u asked about.....but just mho there is nothing which could replace/supplement trading during US markets.

hope u get some stuff from others which could give you what you looking for.

cheers
s

There are some other options as well --

USD/JPY or 6J can have some decent moves in the Asian session. So Can AUD/USD or 6A. Sometimes its like watching the grass grow. Other times not.

Since you're an IB customer, you also have access to the Hong Kong market which has a few highly traded futures products -- I believe the Hang Seng Index Futures and possibly even the futures product based on China A Shares although I'm not sure exactly what that product is called.

Apparently, the South Korean market is one of the highest volume markets traded during that time as well although I've never checked it out.

Let me know what you find out! I wish there was a consistently strong Asian session because that would work best for anyone on the North American West Coast. So far, nothing I found beats the US open on a consistent basis.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the volatility of the US open. I'm hesitant about trading forex as I am utilizing volume profile, and volume is not reported in forex. I'm hoping for some additional insight from someone who trades NKD...

If you're into volume profile and want to trade the Nikkei I've had some decent set ups scalping around the previous day's VPOC during the few hours after GLOBEX opens.

I trade the Nikkei all the time. Best time after hours is 5-7 and around 11 pm our time. I'm in Seattle. I'm currently long the Nikkei @14565 with a stop at 14370. I'm a position trader though but it works for me I'd be happy to meet with you if your are ever in the western part of our state. My wifes family live in Spokane I'm also over there quite a bit as well. Send me a pm.

Hi Andersi,
May I know from your experience, do you have a preference for trading the USD or Yen-based Nikkei contracts please & any reason(s) why ? I'm just starting to look at the 2 of them. Thanks.

Sure. I'm trading the Nikkei in USD. Reason... they both have about same open interest and volume. I like to trade in USD easier to track for my self and not worrying about currency exchanges but you are still having exposure to yen price risk.
