I'm looking for opportunities to trade other futures when es and nq is so choppy.
I googled and didn't come up with any solid data.
When es and nq is choppy, and makes impulsive moves up and down because of the algos,
I fail every time I try to trade chop using 100 strategies, just can't get an edge.
I have time, what others future markets do you all look at when es and nq is sideways.
I've been thinking about gold, crude oil, maybe the 10 year bond to go to when I see sideway day.
This is a short, I've come up with. Any helpfulness of what you trade when es and nq is lifeless,
Any thought or futures that u like for scalping?
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I guess this is something you have to find out yourself. We could post a list of all available futures I trade ES and CL since many years and this is a good combination for me, but it doesn't mean that it is good for you as well.
I study CL and ES. I think every market has its quiet times. CL goes quiet just as often as ES but not always at the same time. CL can be up or down 3% on a flat day in the ES. When CL makes new highs and lows the price can sometimes jump 10-20 ticks in an instant which is something not often seen in the ES.
I follow CL and GC. I watch them side by side and wait for them to breakout of the range. Then that’s the one I’ll trade when my setups tell me too. If it goes back into the range then I’m waiting again and watching both again.
Best option is to trade and instrument that allows you to survive the chop.
If ES is too volatile for you then you need to trade something that is less risky.
Perhaps trade MES (Micro ES) or MYM (Micro YM).
Doing that will allow you to use wider stops and not get chopped out.
If that does not work for you, then perhaps your edge is not as effective as it should be.

It is also ok to sometimes not trade. You don't always HAVE to trade. To know when to sit on your hands is an important skill. It is ok to recognize in which environments your strategy doesn't work and step aside during those times. Alternatively, you can also switch to smaller / larger time frame, or range / renko bars, etc.
