In my trading strategy (see my journal) I'm among other things looking at prior day open/close and high/low.
I want to try to use the same strategy on other markets, starting with the futures NQ and ES. For FDAX, the volume for the future is clearly highest while the stock market is open, but for NQ this is different, as there is a lot of volume the hour before the NSE opens, and then there is the settlement at 16h ET.
Which trading hours should I take into consideration for the prior day OHLC?
When using the NSE hours, 9:30-16:00 ET, I'm missing out on the 8:30-9:30 volume.
I'm not sure if I should stick with the NSE trading hours, or to use also the hour before 8:30-16:00 ET. And then to let the settlement volume out.
TRADING HOURS - "post trading hours" and Lots of Action!!
I was going through an array of different Markets and timeframes last night, and in doing so, I found we seem to be certain "Trends" for when certain Markets tend to Have good …
I have alway set my day session vol profile to cutoff at 3:15 CT and have after hours start at 3:30. What would be the official times now for the Globex sessions?
but didn't really find an answer to my question.
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Personally I don't use ON volume even with pre-market volume values. Don't get me wrong I've capitalize well during those time frame but nobody speaks about the risks associated with it. I stick strictly with RTH (0930-1600). But that is not a right or wrong answer.. it's preferential IMO on what your edge is responding to. So monitor it and create a stat if those periods work for you. For me especially in the hours of 0830 when reports or events are announced price action in NQ can get erratic and throws my edge out the window. I like when markets settling down between 30m or when the IB are set (during RTH) that I my edge responds to well to. Gotta stick to stats on what works best for you.
My FDAX strategy is based on statistics, and on RTH hours.
For NQ and ES, I was looking at the charts in NinjaTrader and this morning it turned out, it was not just the time zones but there was an error in the data as well. Their support told me to delete the cache, because changing the system time zone can give errors.
So, yes, now only RTH hours also for NQ and ES, and I guess for any other ticker based on this strategy
The action does start brewing an hour before but I completely agree with @TraderGee with the risks and erratic price action. I tend to stay with RTH hours and trade side by side with the stock market. Just better liquidity.
