Hi,

I recently switched from time charts to tick charts because it makes finding entry points for me easier. However, volume bars are nothing like time chart volume bars. I understand the tick volume bares consist of the total orders rather than total contracts, just to be clear, that is not the issue.

On time charts, I could look at volume increasing or decreasing and see spikes in bull or bear volume that would help suggest what may come in the future. Tick volume bars, for the most part, are pretty even. So I don't know what kind of information they actually provide other that more bullish, or bearish contracts in that bar. Just not sure how I can use those bars in decision making. I have been all over youtube trying to find answers with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

@optionwhisperer, I've experimented with this on Sierrachart. I had a time chart that was relatively close to a tick chart in terms of generating bars, and overlaid the volume from the time chart. Kludgy and not very pretty, but it works for a rough idea. Not sure if this is possible with your platform.

Ultimately, I ended up using a time chart with a standard volume histogram, and a volume per bar chart for detail. If you're into VSA, you may want to look into it; I prefer VPB over tick charts. While tick is a reasonable proxy for actual volume and works well for Forex markets, VPB candles give you exactly what you're looking for in terms of spread analysis.
