I now use SC

Due to broker issues in that they could no longer support NT, I moved to SC. It is included with with my broker (SC 3 version).

I am good at developing, did a lot in NT and now doing so in SC. With SC I can use the remote compiler so I did not need to install the MS compiler, something that's not so clear in their documentation (a common occurrence). Yet I am finding out more and more, with SC you don't need to be a programmer to do a lot of things, I mean a lot. For example you can simply indicate to use slope to change color. You can use their alerts which has it's own super simple excel like macro language. You can make a sound trigger with the following; H[0] > H[-1]. All studies's (as they are called) values can be accessed within the alert formula. For example, add a study that includes traded bid volume and your alert can now be Traded Bid Volume > 100/sec ding ding ding... super easy.

Both systems offers DOM and chart trading. Both offers hot keys. I uses these for stream lining trade entry and exit.

SC is daunting at first, so many features as noted in other posts. And it's a significant UI change from NT.

By far I found NT's UI much cleaner and user friendly.

There are numerous resources (lots of youtube vids) to get you going on SC . I did not find SC as intuitive to use as NT. It took some time to get use to the way SC does things and those ways still seem weird. (Altering DOM Columns for example)

I trade futures and have not had SC crash or slow down, even with 8 intraday charts open, a DOM open and TnS. CPU and RAM on my laptop (Dell insprion 17", windows 10, 16GB RAM, 2 core multi threaded Intel 7 Gen CPU, 256 SSD, with 3 USB monitors attached) does not exceed 20% use and absolutely no memory leaks from what I can tell. I can not say the same for NT. I started on NT6, then NT7 and then NT8 before I switched.

I will also re-iterate what has been said before - best is relative. If I could trade and be successful with 2 sticks and a stone that would be the best.

@tulanch how do you feel about the MC interface? To me, it seems like a modern UI.

Just a note that SierraChart is easy to run on Linux or OSX under Wine but Ninja is somewhere between 'has worked for someone' and impossible. So my exploration of Ninja (7 and 8) ground to a halt.

what about order execution

RTrader and XTrader are going to have faster order execution compared to most retail platforms using CQG or other retail broker data feeds. they cost 1 buck more a round trip per contract in most cases. however one tick of slippage per round trip is 12.50 per contract on the ES. In a fast moving market some times you can not use limit orders . its necessary to use market orders on both sides of the trade.

If the stop-loss order is being held native on the exchange is this relevant?

if your using a ATR or an advanced algo stop that is executing of the vwap, cwap, twap, volume or limit order book it is. if your trading like children and put in a fixed stop it may not be important .

SC

Personal opinion, and I have used both, is that SC is significantly better than NT.

I never have had a crash on SC no matter how many charts I am running. Never.

NT or SC

To be fair, NT is not that bad, and it is stable by itself, only when you add some low quality third party indicators, the problem comes. However, who does't need one or two indicators? Many traders asked for Chart-Dom Trader years ago, and it has been on development team's list forever, in order to use the function, I had to pay $249 for the third party, it is free on SC. We also asked Indicator Overlay many many times, but never happened, again it is free and very useful at SC. At SC, if they think trader's recommendation is a good idea, they do it, some in couple days, some in couple weeks. Maybe NT want to be like Tradestation, and it is free with broker's account eventually.
