to what i said before, I think one of the reasons most people have an issue with day trading/trading for a living in general is most of us didn't go to a school for this knowledge and when ever you don't do what the norm is doing people get weirded out, college 4-10 years get a job enjoy the first 2 years then realize you have to do the same shit for the next 60 years. The system is broken people like us can do whatever we want, maybe we don't feel like trading today and spend time with our family/pets/friends what ever it may be.

When ever I meet people who are successfully self employed either trading or some business start up, these people always tend to be the happiest they might be extremely stressed out but doing something you love and dealing with the stress is much much easier then doing something because your jack ass boss wants a promotion and you're the leg work.

lesson from this rant... don't do what 99% of other people do as 99% of other people are broke and pissed off

I'm an expert at sidestepping discussions on trading once you get through the usual comments:
  1. "Oh you're a gambler, ha ha" - like it's funny and I haven't heard it a million times before. Twat.
  2. "How much did you make on Bitcoin? " - any talk about shitcoin and I have to fight an urge not to projectile vomit on you.
  3. "I couldn't sit in front of a computer all day" - Wow that's so not interesting thanks for feeling the urge to say something completely irrelevant as though I give a f*** about your limitations.
  4. "so how do you trade? " - retarded questions like this and I just look and wander whether humans are in fact devolving
.

Good points. It's amazing how do many successful business people side stepped the "traditional" model of college and then a job, mortgage etc.

Wow, Perfect!

I get the same exact questions. I usually just tell people I trade the market, they kind of get that. Yeah, 90% ask, "isn't that just gambling?"

I don't give a **** what people think either I just try to get along. But most people don't make money, they make payments and dream about winning the lottery. Even the concept of risk and extreme effort is too much for them so they try to make you feel foolish about your aspirations.

I'm old and had a successful career with a string of startups. And startups are great but Trading is ultimate challenge. The markets change every day and you have to be able to adapt immediately. Trading is the best business ever; just you against the universe. Complete solitude ...….. with no employees and minimum overhead.

People do not understand what they are missing by not giving it a go!

I do agree that trading is the best business ever. I knew that I wasn’t the salesman type of guy, and that eCommerce wasn’t really my thing either, but Trading was like the holy grail when I found it. You don’t have to try to sell a product to anyone, the fees are so small (literally $21/month at Ninja for all futures data), and you always know EXACTLY how well the business is doing. You instantly know if you’re making money or losing money. I don’t see how people can just not try it all together.

It gets under my skin when people who are ignorant about the subject try to make bold claims like “eh it’s just gambling”. Even if it IS just gambling, do people not realize there ARE professional gamblers who make bank? Ivey, Hellmuth, Negreanu, etc.
These are generally the same type of people who are in tons of debt, work a job they hate, are passionate about nothing, and drive a Kia Sorento.

"day trader"
"algorithmic futures trader"
"index futures speculator"
"(algorithmic) financial analyst"

There are two reasons I don't like the d-word.
I personally dislike its negative connotation, people imagine you sleep in, work 30 minutes a day and spend like crazy (completely false).
Secondly I don't even know if the word "daytrader" does justice to what it takes to be successful at this.. the amount of research, hours per day and the psychological pressure.
