I have decided to put my automated system to the test. There has been a lot of talk about automated systems lately on futures.io (formerly BMT). A recurring theme is most everyone shows backtests (myself included) or they have a successful system but dont share results.(myself included) I am looking to break this trend by trading a automated system forward with real results.
The point of this thread is to prove that a automated system can be developed and be successful over long market periods. With that said, I will not be sharing the code at this time.
The system which will be tested is one of my own design. It is built specifically for the FX Euro.
Known issues to overcome to do the test (some are still in progress):
Downtime; Using my home internet service was not a option due to connection issues. I will be using a dedicated server to run the strategy.
Existing account or new account?: this is a tough one. I do not want my daytrading results to interfere with my automated strategy so I am leaning toward opening a new account. (TBD)
Account size: Although I am confident my system will work, I am not crazy enough to go with a large account. I am going to start small; 1000 to 1500. This means the amount made or lost will be small as well. This will help preserve capital during a downturn.
Ninja Trader crashing during rollover: They seem to have fixed the issue with trades being closed out during rollover. Although I am not holding my breath. Looking into other alternatives.
Testing:
The strategy has been tested over the past year with real and simulated trades. I am confident with the trades and the results.
I am in process of doing initial testing on the server with NT7. Need to get the feel for the server before trading begins.
The server was set up a couple of days ago. I feel disconnected not having the machine in the same room. I think it is because I have built every computer I have ever had, except my first. Not being able to touch it, see it or knowing what parts are in it feels, well, weird...
Final thoughts:
The best case scenario is I spectacularly succeed and will sit on a beach collecting profits :becky: ; The worse case scenario is I will fail miserably lose some money and have to start over.:faint:Whatever the result may be, I am looking forward to the experience and the chance to share and learn something new.
