I think Kraken is a good exchange for high volume and relatively low fees.

Theoretically you can deposit fiat. They use a 3rd party that seems to present a bit of a hassle for getting thru KYC. So far I've been lazy and bought some initial coin on Coinbase Pro (where I'm already authorized for fiat) and transferred it to the Kraken wallet.

I have accounts at Binance.us and FTX.us.
I trade everyday on Binance.us and haven't used my FTX account.
I find the fees better on Binance.us than FTX both of which I believe are better than CoinbasePro. I used the Old GDAX exchange before it was revamped and rebranded as CoinbasePro, but each has their own peculiarities when comes to account tiers where they give breaks on commission based on volume traded or funds on deposit(eg. on Binance, if you use BNB for trading fees you get a break in fees, and BNB has hit appox $650).
Binance.com and FTX.com has a fuller menu of coins and offers margin trading and perpetual crypto futures, products not available to US citizens.

I'm not sure I want to go the VPN route to try and get accounts at Binance.com and FTX.com. I have flashbacks of using offshore Forex brokers(to trade products not available to US citizens) and praying and having to wait many months for the proceeds to be sent back to me or running into problems with my banks not accepting wires from offshore forex brokers and having to convert to Bitcoin and get my money back through methods like that.
YMMV

Now is the Time!
