Can someone please comment on the nuances of trading a really thin market, specifically Micro Gold? Fill quality on limits and slippage on markets orders? Thanks!
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Limits will be nearly impossible to get filled if the market is moving.
Slippage on market orders will be high, and quite possibly tremendously high.
But, the one thing you have to watch in illiquid markets are the stops where the bids are pulled from the markets
on large gaps and you essentially have no stop.

Normally all beginners try to find cheap markets to start his journey in this trading arena.
I was thought the same, but i was make a bit worse, making commodity spreads whith Lean Hogs, in about 2 minutes after open it, my Stop Loss (emergency) far away from price actions, was eaten how a ounce of chocolate.
My loss was about 3,500$.... but after commented this impossible situation whith my broker, it's something usual at thin markets.
Hey , i did learnt my Hard Lesson for only 3 bigsĦĦĦ.
Take note.... NEVER TRADE THIN MARKETS.. well, if you want always will be a good day for pit operators... ''
The lean hogs are traded via Globex electronically not in the pit, unless you you traded some further out months where you needed special pricing.

It is unfortunate, but I have seen gaps occur that left my mouth wide open even in the more liquid markets.

Thanks! I've been watching the micro and mini gold as the full size gold future is a bit to wild for me. They are so thin its ridiculous. i did not realize the danger of those areas with no resting orders. I think i will stay away from those unless it is day time and a little more volume.
