Thank you so much for the information posted so far, I will review it all. I ordered last night a on my kindle David Bennett's "Day Trading Grain Futures" ... interesting read thus far.. it did mentioned corn had the most volume.. I started pulling up the historical data on TS8 to start understanding the market.. again, thanks and please keep posting anything else you can think of that can aid me...

Hi sysot,
I've been trading David's system for awhile...would be interested in discussing it with you. Have you tried to trade the system yet?

As always, Matt has provided excellent advice.

I began trading grains at the Mid-America Commodity Exchange in the 70's and began and finished my career trading Beans at the CBOT. My words of advice are, begin with trading corn, then move "up" to beans, and stay away from wheat. I wouldn't bother with oil or meal ,either.

Feel free to IM me if you would like to discuss this topic in more detail.

Hi TigerTrader,
I would be interested in discussing more about trading the grains. I've been trading about 2 years now, and have gravitated towards the grains.

Did you point systot to David Bennetts book? I have read that as well and that is one system I trade. Would be interested to know your thoughts on it.

I am looking at diversifying into commodities for swing trading, and I would be curious to know if there are any grain traders that would be willing to share their knowledge as to what type of research one would do in order to get accostumed with the factors that influence the grain markets; what makes the actual market participants tick; how one should view and track weather events, etc.

Basically what a new grain trader should learn about the grains futures market. Anyone that is willing to share their knowledge, or provide some guidance as to where one can find said information?, I would greatly appreciate it.

I write options with in this market and I'll gladly share what I've learned, just drop me a PM

Corn is a very trend friendly market in my opinion. So I like use the COT report to see if anything has changed with in the commercial interest during the past week. Once I've done that i will go ahead and sell options against the flow. Plan is to hold for 2weeks. If the market stalls I then hedge by turning it into a strangle. In this situation I would exit both by utilizing time decay or if the market breakouts I leg out of the winning option and either go long or short the future behind the option that i left on. Plan is always to sell risk, after that I let the market dictate the rest.

the reason I use this game plan is so I can constantly attempt to generate alpha over the course of time while I'm swing trading bonds or currencies for quick short-term profits.

Anyone here still trading the grains ZC, ZS, ZW?

I started to trade the ZC recently in my live test cash account.
(personally, I hate trading in SIM, I need some skin in the game to get the REAL gut feel.)

Not too bad for this past Thurs and Fri.
Here are my trades, just trading the open.

Still have a lot to learn on the grains.
When do the agr reports come out that affect these markets?
Before open? during pit session?
