I have traded futures with for many years and could recommend trading futures options with 5k, Like others in this thread, 5k is a bit small unless you are hedging your futures position with a call or a put option. The broker I have used for years is Cannon Trading they will help you with a strategy.

Nick, I would recommend a beginner to start in the most realistic sim you can obtain with a realistic starting capital that you can acquire. Demonstrate your ability in strictly controlled simulated environment for 1 to 3 months before going live but do not stay in simulator beyond that if you've demonstrated your ability. A starting account of 25k would allow you to deleverage some of your positions (take more types of trades) and would be a good amount. Even if you cannot get 25k then even say 15k would be a much better amount to start with. If you trade with only 5k then depending on your broker you may run into various sorts of problems which can cost you. The absolute minimum I'd recommend would be 7k-8k.

What would you recommend for a beginner to start out with money wise and the where to look for the proper education?

Prove to yourself in legit sim trading that you are legit enough to go live. Then start super small, work on timing intraday entries and managing small losses with a 1 lot. Keep building from there. You can accomplish a lot of growth with 5k and trading a 1 lot with an extreme amount of respect for this 'learning phase' of your trading journey. You may lose the 5k, yes, but if you treat the experience correctly, it will have been a well paid 5k tuition. You cannot avoid a tuition.
