Hi,
I'm in the process of purchasing a lifetime Ninjatrader platform license. I like to know everyone's opinion about using the Continuum feed for Futures, or should I use a different feed?
Thanks,
Rockford
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I won't comment on datafeeds and it also depends on your broker obviously, but what I can comment on is make sure you have tried out a few other platforms other than NT before you hand over your hard earned cash.
NT is a good beginners platform, but there are so many other better platforms that either cost you nothing or less than NT.
I speak from experience as I thought NT was all that was out there until it was time to commit and buy it. I then looked what else was out there and boy was I glad I did.
Sometimes it may be that the question get looked over for a number of reasons.
When you are looking for an answer but you haven't got one it's often a good idea to "bump" the question by posting a follow-up.
Another option is to target a user who appears to be knowledgeable on the subject you're looking an answer to and ask the questions directly at them. Usually best to grab attention by quoting or targeting someone with a @ in front of their username (sorry if I'm saying stuff you already know).
As for your question, it's difficult for me to provide you with an answer because I haven't had that much experience with NinjaTrader. The only connection I ever used with it is Continuum.
The more expert people on here tell me that Continuum is a great connection but that's all I can relay.
I think cencored has a good point of shopping around before paying for a lifetime license.... have you tried other trading platforms?
Again - as reminder - when you want to get somebody's attention, better either use the @ in front of their username (e.g. @xplorer), or quote their last post (click on the quote button).
Either way they'll get a notification that you mentioned their name, so they'll be able to reply.
I happened to refresh the window so I noticed you asked me a question, but it was 'by accident', because I wasn't quoted. I hope it helps.
With regards to your question, I trade exclusively futures now.
In terms of platform, I use a platform developed by CQG called QTrader. The reason I picked this was,
it is relatively affordable (40$ per month)
it is fairly fast. Other users that use both CQG and NT appear to say CQG is considerably faster
has several built-in studies and functions, but you can program your own quite easily
support is decent
CQG also provides the datafeed for the platform (the Continuum feed for NinjaTrader is provided by CQG as well)
As for the broker, I have an account with tradefutures4less.com. It was one of the cheapest available in terms of commissions. He works with Dorman Trading.
Thanks, I understand now about the @ before your name.
I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions.
1) Does QTrader offer a Matrix like Ninjatrader, along with ATM type strategies?
2) I trade the NQ, and there's only 2 things I need, a DX feed, and an SMI indicator. Do you know if I can get these 2 from QTrader?
I hope you don't mind me asking these questions, and I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me about this. I'm finding out when it comes to Platforms, Feeds and Brokers this can get extremely confusing.
1) You can see for yourself here - If there's anything you have a question on I'll do my best to answer
2) I'm not sure what the Matrix is in this context?
3) Sorry, I am not familiar with either what a DX feed is or the SMI indicator. If this SMI is like an oscillator or something, I could not find it in QTrader.
Perhaps if you can illustrate what these items in 2) and 3) are I can look them up for you?
2) What I mean when I say Matrix, I mean a trading ladder like Ninjatrader DOM, along with a automatic strategy where when you get into a trade, it puts your stop and target on the ladder.
3) What I mean when I say DX, I mean a feed to show the US Dollar Index, and yes, SMI like you said is an oscillator, Stochastic Momentum Index.
4) Does QTrader offer a demo, to try it for a short time to get farmiliar with it?
