As there is almost no serious feedback on the historic tick data sold by several third party providers on the forum I want to share my experience with one of those: Backtestdata.com
I was looking for historic tick data on a DAX Futures contract and ordered the data from this provider who explicitly markets its proficiency and the quality of data on their website. However, I want to warn all NT trading participants. The data provided is useless and the quality is not appropriate. Please refer to the 2 screenshots attached- one from Kinetick with the real tick data and one I bought from Backtestdata.com
You will see, it is not usable.
Hope, this message will be read before ordering and investing > USD1k for crap from this supplier.
You need to see what are the rules for creating the continuous series...
I don't think that on the date 19.06.15, the FDAX 12-15 is the correct front month.
You need to ask yourself, what do you want to backtest and what do you want to achieve ?
Do you want to reproduce, what you would/could have done at that point in time, trading the front month ?
The name is not important here. The tick data for 19.06 comes from september contract (front month). The name is just there as I compared the tick data for the last 6 months and took december contract as the latest one. Same picture with FDAX 9-15. The issue here is that half of the tick data is simply missing. If you take Dax index itself you will see almost the same picture with many gaps, so I assume they saved the ticks only for the same hours the index is available.
In any case, throughout all underylings provided there is always a question of quality. Differences between the real kinetick ticks and ticks from backtestdata.com is evident and doesnt allow for accurate backtesting. So please be aware and do not follow me in the same trap.
Also, by the way how these people communicate you can see that they are not a serious company and are not looking to find a solution. They refuse to fix the issue (probably because they cant and always referring to some technicians looking into the issue) and after I asked for my money back I received the following reply:
"
We have received your paypal dispute scam against Payapl and we have provided your information to our internet lawyer and paypal business partnership department.
Due to your potential business fraud activity, we will be permanently terminating your NT license and data license.
Your identification, address and activities are collected and will be reported to Paypal, and the case is now being passed to to internet fraud attorney Cohen Schneider & O'Neill LLP,
you may receive local court order while your credit card dispute is going on. Our legal case department will provide all your documents and logs to our lawyer for the law suit.
Getting resonable accurate FDAX data should not be that difficult
the problem remains, how to convert front month contracts into a continuous contract...
Personally i don't believe in a strategy that makes or brakes on a few tick data...
Getting FDAX tick data as described on backtestdata.com is difficult and expensive, however they advertise it and that is the problem! I just want to warn other participants not to buy it from them because it is crap. It is not about your or my beliefs.
I keep getting requests for people to share their GomRecorder data. A few threads have been started on the subject but not many are following thru it would seem.
I am collecting data from IQFeed via QCollector. All data contains bid/ask and is tick …
And other threads have instruments like ES going back like 10 years or more.
I got this addon for Ninjatrader. Was told that it works with a set profit and stop. It does work some what if all trades are opened and closed on the same bar. However it is not even close to Market replay result if i make a strategy that only takes 100% intrabar trades and are infact worthless. If i have a normal strategy were open and close are not on the same bar it does not work at all. They did say they would try and improve it but when i asked when there was no answer. Seems to me that they are selling something they think work or they know it doesn't work as advertised and then it is just a scam. I have claimed they purchase and they seems to be fighting it.
