New to the forum and fairly new to trading. Well - new to making money trading =)
I have been trying to gain enough confidence in NT 7 B14 to use it for live trading. I have a TDA account and an IB account. I have been using the simulation account for the last week and am wrestling with the data feeds:
1. If I use IB as the primary and use it for historical, IB keeps sending a pace warning on historical - pain in the rear unless I keep the computer running and most of the instruments (stocks) that I intend to trade in NT's MA. But - if I make changes to the MA, I get the windows all over again.
2. I have tried using TDA for historical with IB listed as the primary. It actually worked for a couple of days, but when I started posting to NT's support forum with seemingly stalled 'Last' price, I found out that TDA is not compatible with NT 7 yet.
Anyhoo - the problem I have is that the last price listed on NT 7 seems to randomly stall. Ask/bid will continue to update, but last hangs. It comes to my attention when the ask and bid start leaving the last price behind; double checking the last in TDA's SD or IB's TWS reveals the discrepancy.
IMO NT 7 is a huge improvment on the older versions, and I love the chart trading feature and the limitless indicator/strategy implementation. But - I need a good reliable data feed. Any opinions as to what works best with NT?
Thanks in advance!

If you're using IB, that will unfortunatly not solve your problem, without filtering you'll have huge inconsistent tails. Or maybe you'll have to use only the Open/Close price, and forget about the Low/High.
I'm glad you've heard about "bad tick filter", I asked NT support a long time ago, and their haven't solved my problem.
Nothing more # exasperating, when you manage multiple stocks position, when one of your charts is suddendly, but you don't know it...
Thanks for the input Sam. Not planning on going live just yet with this system - due to all of the problems I have had over the last couple of weeks - probably in large part to user error. Things went off without a hitch for me Friday afternoon finally.
I think the filter is a good idea - maybe I just had it set too tight? I had it on the default 0.1% of market. I actually spotted the solution on my own after MEE's ~$0.40 jump. Support was trying to help though.
It sounds like IQFeed is the best option for equities if this doesn't work.
Daytradingfool, although free I would not even consider NT to trade / watch multiple stocks, it's pure frustration ... it seems it was made for trading a small number of instruments and mostly futures... I know that's not what they sell but ...
I would strongly consider QuoteTracker, Amibroker, Multicharts and eSignal ($).
NT can handle multiple stocks, but not hundreds, QuoteTrader and Multicharts are better choice when a lot of stocks have to be monitored (I haven't tried Amibroker, and didn't like Esignal).
So all depends what is "multiple", below 10 stocks or hundreds .
Hi Sam,
I was just wondering what are the issues you spotted when trying to monitor 10's of stocks in parallel in NT? Are we talking about automated trading issues or something to do with their tools?
