Hello all,

Right now I am trading live with Rithmic (I came over from ZenFire) but I have IQFeed as a secondary feed. Now when I read the table on the Ninjatrader website: NinjaTrader Version 7 , and compare IQFeed with Rithmic, I wonder if there is any reason why I should keep IQFeed (other than a backup purpose). It seems that IQFeed would not give me an edge over Rithmic.
I even plan on changing over to Continuum, as my OCO groups would be supported server side. Considering that I pay around $200 for live data with IQFeed each month I wonder if this is really necessary.
If you see any error in this thoughts please let me know! :-)

Many greetings,
Oliver

Rithmic is an execution feed, not a true data feed. There is no historical data for example. IQFeed is a complete data feed, which includes hundreds of breadth tickers and many exchanges and products not available with Rithmic.

More:

Basically, it's like saying do you really need gas for your car, or is just the car enough? The car is Rithmic. It's necessary to execute your traders at your brokerage. The gas is IQFeed, it's necessary if you need historical data or breadth data.

Right now I'm trading with NT using Rithmic for executions in my Combine account. Historical data is provided by Ninja via their historical data servers.

They do the same for my live account: CQG handles trades, and provides current data, and Ninja provides historical data. "Historical" means, any time before I logged onto the current NT session.

I suggest emailing Ninja support and asking them the questions. That's how I found out that my historical data was provided by them and not by CQG, some time ago.

It may also depend on whatever arrangements Ninja has with your broker; another reason to ask them.

For what it's worth, I am thinking about subscribing to IQFeed even though I get historical data in my instruments without it, for the same reason that @Big Mike mentioned: breadth and other data that I don't have otherwise. (Example: I would like to have $TICK data; I can get it, but not live -- Ninja gives me historical, but CQG does not include it live, so the $TICK charts are static history, as of the date/time I logged on, and therefore worthless.... I have to access yet another account for it.)

So there is a reason, and it depends on your needs. NT support should be able to help you sort it out.

Bob.

Edit: another simple example is index data, like S&P500 index, as opposed to the ES S&P futures, or advance/decline data, or SPY (the S&P ETF), or.... you get the idea. Lots of stuff is not going to be included in your execution feed, so there's not going to be any way to access it real-time. My needs and experience are oriented toward stock index futures, so it may not apply to what you need, but there is a matter of having a complete feed, depending on what you may want or need in the future.

Rithmic is first and foremost a complete data-feed.

Data-feed comes from the exchange's TickerPlant.
Part of Rithmic's technology is based upon taking all the data that the exchanges (CME, ICE, etc) distrbibute via the TickerPlanet and delivering it to your platform in a concise unfiltered manner that fuels the input for your charts, quotas, Market Profile, etc.

Each data-feed also contains OrderPlant which is a set of program that provide you with the ability to route orders to execute on the exchanges. It includes, authentication of users, authorization, order management modules, exchange submission, and execution reports.

Rithmic does provide three months only, so IQ Feed would be a great complement to those who need longer history for the purpose of trading a given methodology. The breath indicators are a plus to those who utilize such tools.

Trading futures and options involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Glad to see they are evolving. They used to provide no historical data at all, which is why NinjaTrader did it for them. Then after a few years, they started providing 3-days of historical to MultiCharts. I don't remember any announcement about when they moved to 3-months of data. Still, 3 months is basically worthless in my opinion, but better than 3 days for sure.

It took me a long time to "evolve" Rithmic to think along retail lines.
Some projects we had to take on ourselves, like making the demo/cme certification an online process versus downloading r-trader for all the platforms that are driven by Rithmic.
I believe this is why NinjaTrader does not provide Rithmic demos, as you now need to expose another platform.

SierraCharts via "OptimusScreen" also provides historic data.

IQ Feed is excellent source of data for developers, and their customer service via James To, has been incredible.
Those platforms that lack the historical component and breath indicators, we have always recommended IQ.

hi. I do not see any reason to use IQFEED

* If investing gets too difficult for a seventh grader to understand, the system is needlessly complex
* Markets produce an enormous volume of information, much of which is redundant
* In every game and con there's always an opponent, and there's always a victim. The trick is to know when you're the latter, so you can become the former

@ostadler please contact me directly and I will check all your services and exchange fees to insure you are recieving the lowest rates.

With tens of thousands of customers, there is obviously a reason people choose us to power their trading platforms. If you only trade the ES and believe the contract can be traded by watching a real time chart only, IQFeed is going to be overkill for you. However, if you understand that there are multiple dynamics to the market then you need more than a single contracts real time quote. We provide cross asset information so traders can see what is happening in the equity markets, other futures markets, forex markets, etc. Our service includes real time streaming news so you are able to react to economic, social, political or other market moving events. In addition, we calculate over 700 market breadth indicators every second to provide insight into market undertones. With nearly 10 years of 1 minute bars of history that we back-adjust for you, professional traders are able to spend more time focused on making profitable trades instead of worrying about or managing their data. And, should you ever have a question or problem, we are here 24 hours per day five and a half days per week to help.

Since IQFeed is supported by nearly all of the top analytical platforms, you don't have to feel locked into one way of analyzing your trades. Run multiple platforms at the same time, knowing the most accurate data is on them all.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, we are here to help.
