Brian Murphy, the Director of Business Development at CTS, will be monitoring this thread so that he may answer any questions that you post here relating to CTS products and services.

Please keep in mind that some customer service/technical support issues are best handled through proper channels at CTS.

CTS (Cunningham Trading Systems) is well known for their T4 trading product -- with its top tier data, unique DOM capabilities, extensive futures & options support, mobile based platforms and a well documented and supported API.

CTS T4 is widely used on the trading floor and well respected by professionals.

In addition to this thread, I will also be asking Brian Murphy to stop by on occasion for a casual webinar where he can answer questions via audio while also sharing his screen to visually demonstrate any points as needed. The date/time of those sessions will be announced here in this thread. These sessions will be limited to questions only, there is no prepared presentation. After the session ends, the recording will be posted in this thread.

You can find more on their website:
CTS | Cunningham Trading Systems

Feel free to ask any questions below and we'll do our best to get them answered.

The futures.io (formerly BMT) "AMA" (Ask Me Anything) series is by invitation only. It is part of a new program we are launching shortly called "Certified Trustworthy", something that has been months in the making. I will provide all the details of this new program as soon as it is ready for launch.

Excuse me if these are perhaps obvious questions but as I have no experience with T4 (yet) im quite interested in the following:
  1. Does T4 support non time based bar types ie: Range, Tick, Volume etc
  2. Does T4 support trading directly from the chart
  3. Does T4 support automatic stop loss and profit target strategies. Something along the lines of NinjaTraders ATM

Please could you also advise if any of the above is not available are there any plans to implement it and when.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I will let Brian answer naturally, but I also want to point out that CTS is more than just a charting or execution platform. It's also a data feed. You can use this data feed within Sierra Chart, for example, to give you some features not easily found elsewhere, such as server-side OCO's and a highly accurate data feed.

So in other words, yes you can use CTS T4 charting+DOM, or even your own charts (ie: NinjaTrader) with their DOM. But you can also use something like Sierra Chart, with CTS as your execution/feed and then there is no need to use T4 at all. There is a list of brokers that are supported on CTS's website. And I think if your broker is not listed, it is not too hard to get them to add CTS support, I've seen it happen before.

2. Not at this time but it is in our near term plans.

For item 3, I think he is talking about trade management strategies, basically a way to pre-program automatic trailing stops.

Brian,

I know you have the autospreader due out around the start of next quarter, and I had a few questions.

1. Any idea on a price range yet?
2. Will it be ladder based, (like cqg or TT) or something different?
3. Any chance you can wet our whistle with a screenshot?
4. Will charting be updated to incorporate synthetic spreads? Also to chart the exchange traded spreads without the daily reversion to zero.

Thanks!

.

To be honest we have not determined a price for the autospreader. We will probably have a intro period where you can try it for free. I will send a screenshot when we get it into Beta. Yes, you will be able to chart custom spreads. I will know more about functionality when I get the Beta version.

Thanks Brian

Thanks for the feedback Brian,

Yes as per Big Mikes reply im talking about the ability to automate certain stop loss and profit target strategies, for example you could automate something like the following once i've entered the market with 5 contracts:
- set initial stop loss for all 5 contracts at -5ticks
- set 2 different profit targets, one at +5 ticks for 3 contracts, one at +10 ticks for the final 2 contracts
- When price moves 3 ticks in my favor, automatically move the stop to breakeven
- When price moves 7 ticks in my favor move the stop for the remaining position to breakeven+3

Something along those lines...

Thanks.

Hi Brian, one question only.

In my experience, if using the same futures with different entries, it is always first in first out. Is that correct and can it be changed somehow?

Let' me explain: I go long 1 ES contract at 1520. The market goes lower and at 1518 I go long with another contract.
Now when the market goes back to 1520, I want to exit the second contract, but even if I set the OCO limit order on that contract, still the first contract will be executed and this will be a breakeven trade instead of a 2 points profit one.

Is this always like this (first in, first out) or is there a trick I can exit whichever contract I want??

Our P&L method is FIFO and there is no option for you to change. We do have options for how we display the Average Fill price.
Avg Open Fill - Highlights the price at which a user can scratch this trade if they flatten their position. The price will be highlighted in the bid or offer color depending on whether it is a long or short position.
Day Breakeven - Highlights the price at which a user can scratch their entire trading day if they flatten their position. The price will be highlighted in the bid or offer color depending on whether it is a long or short position.

Thanks Brian

Three questions:

1. If I have entered auto-OCO orders and click on an open order, say the target order, thus cancelling it, I assume that the counterpart order i.e the stop loss order gets cancelled too. This is more of a confirmation kind of question.

2. My second question is, if my orders are quite far off to be visible in the DOM e.g. 100 ticks away, then the only way to access the order for modification is by going to the unfilled orders window and right-clicking and bringing up the "Modify" dialog. Is there any way to "compress" the DOM to be able to view these orders and then drag drop them for adjustment?

3. The third question is - if stop loss orders, for e.g., of two different orders reside on the same price level they are shown bunched up as a single (additive) number and there is no way to quick cancel (or move) only one of the orders by clicking on them. So I need to go to the "Modify" dialog again. Is there an easier way to do the cancellation / modification of a single order via the DOM?

1. Once an Auto OCO order is filled and the limit and stop are working, you can cancel one leg without the other being canceled. In a regular OCO order if you cancel one leg the other will automatically cancel.
2.No, you can't compress but you can use the scrolling arrows to reach the order or right click on the red/blue center button and you can type in the price and the ladder will go to that price.
3. If you right click on the working order on the DOM an order ticket will populate with the separate orders so you can cancel or modify the order you want. This way you don't need to leave the DOM and go to the order book.

Thanks Brian

We are in the final phase with our auto spreader which will also include the feature to chart defined spreads. We hope to have it in Beta in March and if all goes well release sometime in April.

Just a note to all, Brian will be back on futures.io (formerly BMT) for a full webinar presentation on Thursday, May 2nd @ 4:30 PM ET.

The topic will include new CTS T4 features such as their new auto-spreader and new options platforms.

More details as we get closer to the event.

I'd like to see:

1. The ability to enter negative prices in the order ticket (essential for spreads - and an issue you will get more of if introducing an autospreader). It's a bit annoying having to scroll through the prices - which is the only way to adjust a price from an existing quote.

2. When I open an order ticket off the quote board (how I tend to trade spreads), it would be good if I could save the ticket type as advanced. Every time I open a ticket, I have to change it to advanced.

3. It would be good if I could see depth of market from the Quote Board as in other platforms, rather than having to open up a Contract window.

Overall, a nice and stable platform though. Nice work!

Hi

I'm using CTS with Sierra charts and i'm very satisfied , all works fine.
I'd like to have the price of futures formatted as it's formatted by the exchange , i.e.: ES or CL on CTS are shown and sent without period 151675 and 9102 i have to convert them in order to display with SC.
with CL ,during fast market , very few times i noticed a little lag in the reception of the data, compared with TT or Iqfeed , do you plan to increase the bandwith and velocity of the data feed ?
Regards
Max

Question about revising orders:

When I click on an existing order in the Working orders box and choose to Revise, a new window opens up with 4 choices. Cancel is obvious and it works, but:

1. What is the difference between Pull and Remove, they both do the same and cancel the order?
2. When I click on Revise nothing happens, although I expect a window to open up where I could manually change the number. Is this a glitch?

Thanks...

1. If a spread has negative values than you should be able to enter as you would a positive number. I usually see negative numbers on the mini dow spread and was able to enter those values. Please look at this again and let me know if it is still an issue.

2. Yes you can definitely save this feature. After selecting Advanced from the main properties are you then saving the layout?

3. I will pass along this suggestion

Thanks Brian

1. Pull means pull the order from the market. Cancel means cancel this order ticket so it disappears. Remove means if multiple orders are in the order ticket you can highlight one and click remove so it is no longer being displayed in the ticket but it is not pulled from the market.
2. You must first make a change to the order then click revise to send the change to the market.

Thanks Brian

Regards
Max

We display without decimals because that is the format sent out by the Exchange. Try this for me. Go to the main properties and click the second tab called Contract. On the left hand side the second option is Price Buffering. Change yours to Fast and let me know if that helps. We give options because some computers can not handle this amount of bandwidth.

Thanks Brian

Hi Brian, one question only.

In my experience, if using the same futures with different entries, it is always first in first out. Is that correct and can it be changed somehow?

Let' me explain: I go long 1 ES contract at 1520. The market goes lower and at 1518 I go long with another contract.
Now when the market goes back to 1520, I want to exit the second contract, but even if I set the OCO limit order on that contract, still the first contract will be executed and this will be a breakeven trade instead of a 2 points profit one.

Is this always like this (first in, first out) or is there a trick I can exit whichever contract I want??

It is always FIFO.

Thanks Brian

Hi Brian,

First of all I am very excited about the auto spreader; I am a Velocity customer and about 6-8 or so months ago you were available as a Velocity front end and then you were no longer available on the list of front ends available. I have contacted both Velocity and you guys and no one can give me an answer on when CTS will be available with Velocity.

You guys have a great platform and thanks for doing this AMA.

Take Care,

Chris

Chris, Velocity resigned a few months ago so from my end they are good to go. Our auto spreader should be available in the next couple of months.

@CTS1, if we get to this today great, if not I will try to attend tomorrow and ask live.

The T4 mobile interface is pretty good. Primarily I would want to use it in an emergency situation--power goes out, and all I have is my mobile phone with internet, for example. I would think quite a few others would want to use it for that purpose as well. With that in mind, having a "Flatten" button somewhere would be a great idea. No fumbling with orders, etc., just log on and get out.

What do you think?

There is a "Pull All" button on the top right of the orderbook.

Correct, this is not a flatten button. I can request that addition.

Thanks for the reply Brian -

1. Nope. Still no good for me. NatGas M13-Q13. Quote is currently -73 bid, -74 offered. Try putting in a bid at say -78. It wont let you with the order ticket. This example isn't a big deal as I can use the scroll buttons. If my price is far away though, then it becomes a pain.

2. OK Sorry, I wasn't clear. Basically, I sometimes use GTC's far away from the current market (thus the issue #1). You're right that I can save the Advanced ticket type, but what I really want to do is save the field Time Type in the order ticket so I can select GTC straight away without having to go to the Properties drop down, click Time Type, go to the ticket, select GTC from the drop down.... I've tried selecting the field in the ticket, saving the profile/desk top, closing down, fire up, load the profile, and unfortunately, although I can select Advanced fields, Time Type isn't saved in the ticket. Are GTC's really Advanced? I would have thought your broker desk customers would be using these orders all the time.

I imagine these aren't high priority issues for you, but they would go a long way in making the platform that bit more user friendly.

Thanks,
D

Hi Brian, will charts be available with the auto spreader? Another question is will stops be able to be placed on the auto spreader dom, some of your competitors in this area are not able to place stops in auto spreader?

Are you able to post any details about any of the functionality of the auto spreader or how it might work?

Thanks,

Chris

In terms of new functionality, a button that resets the volume at price (total) in the contract window would be good. This would allow an easier view of market development as it moves through the day

Brian, TheDude just reminded me of one serious gripe with the DOM that I just could not understand (and maybe did not understand correctly). The volume at price display is an essential and very nice feature; however, it seems that instead of automatically adjusting the scale automatically, there is an option in the properties under Display->Prop Scale that requires the user to manually go and adjust the scale. Obviously this is a huge pain, particularly as the scale value is currently "4250" -- what that means I don't know (the manual does not say I don't think) and it does not seem to be a fixed scale from 0 to 100 for example. In short, the bars are visible early on, like so, this was taken a few minutes before the open:

But very quickly, the view becomes unreadable like so:

4550 and 4575 have very different volume traded, but the visual in the profile is the same; ditto for higher prices. So, I have to change the scale (increase the value) to make it look like this:

Why not just auto-adjust the scale?

Chris, I just got my hands on the Alpha version so give me some time to play with it and I will post some details. The charts will be part of the auto spreader as you can chart the custom spreads that you create. I will post more as I get more information.

My complaints about the platform have been shared with CQG a few times, seems they have other agendas than my issues, which I understand. That being said, Brian, maybe you could explain to the forum your primary client, and who you guys focus on the most, as there are some basic options your platform does not offer that when inquired about, one is told something along the lines of 'this is harder to change than you think and although we know about it, its not on our horizon anytime soon.' As I said, I understand that, but given your feature set (basic charts, basic ladders, limited customization, CST only, new options page seemed very important and now an autospreader) seems you are focused on technology limited ex-chicago floor traders that want simple execution with charting in a very competitive price point.

Thanks.

The scale you set it at is how many lots it takes at that price for a new segment of the horizontal bar to show up... if you follow that. Not sure the best way to explain it. This is how TT was when I had it also.

Makes sense -- I just can't figure why T4 does not automatically change the scale (or at least have an option to). On a price chart, on every platform I've ever used, T4 included, the price scale automatically changes when a new high or low is made; so why doesn't the profile scale change so that the volume profile is readable? Hopefully this would be addressed.

Pretty much you want to set a "max" level, be it 50, 75, 100% of the area of the horizontal volume bar, and the highest volume would fill up the max and everything else would adjust in conjunction, correct? Maybe other platforms have it and I have never noticed it, but the TT and CQG doms do not have this that I can recall... so I doubt CQG will be offering this any time soon.

Bump for replies/updates.

Frank, we don't focus one one particular trading group but rather try to continue to move our product forward. We develop what we hear users want and try to improve what we already offer. Options and auto spreader have been two huge projects that are finally hitting their last stages of development and we are excited to deliver them to the marketplace. We try to prioritize the best we can so I know some request get pushed back and some not looked at period. We will always circle back and review the request but we also need to maintain the current system to provide solid connectivity. You can give me a list of specific features you want and I will respond.

Thanks Brian

Hello Brian,

I am looking to automate a gamma scalping/ delta hedging strategy using the option greeks of a portfolio.
Could I use CTS or the CTS API for this purpose? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

We are only a few weeks away from launching our new options platform. I know we will have all the Greeks but I am not sure about the automation. I will reach out to my developers to get clarification for your question.

Thanks Brian

Sure... interested in the autospreader like everyone else, not only to use it to trade spreads, but also to chart non-exchange traded spreads. It looks like thats almost up and running.

Basic stuff, I think some of this has been posted in the previous CTS thread:
-Cant change charts to EST.

-When the dom is in 'auto-recentered' mode, where the price moves around in it and the ladder doesnt move, but you cant scroll the ladder. AKA I cant move the ladder to put a stop above or below whats view-able on the ladder. I presume this is because of TT's licensing issues?

-You cant compress the ladders. Ex: I cant view CL at 90.00, 90.02, 90.04, 90.06, etc.

Additional ladder customization I'd love to have but doubt is in demand by others:
-I'd really like to have a right click button option without it being viewed on the ladder. I'd like to set it in the main options and not see it on the ladder, or set it per each ladder and make it invisible... doesnt matter.

-I'd like to be able to customize the volume bar, instead of just being able to add or subtract and it and change the volume amounts. All I want are 3 volumes up there that are easy to click... in my case: 1, 5 and 10. That huge volume bar not only has 10 different volume amounts, but then has 3 different options within that, thereby making 30 different left click options available on your ladder... plus this is also available again on the 'left click' and 'right click' volume display. Its very redundant. I'm not here to debate it, I am sure the traders exist... but who needs 30 different clickable volumes available to them anyway!

-I'd also like to have my bids and offers show in one column as an option. TT has this.

-There a lot of 'features' on your ladder that arent customizable. Ex: Some ladders I used stops on, some I dont. The ability to remove things from the order toolbar per each ladder, instead of the main menu would be great. Even better would be the ability to then add my 3 volume options referenced earlier here, so the pull order button isnt sitting there alone taking up all that screen real estate on every ladder.

Frank, we can take some of this into consideration. Yes we have restrictions on the ladder due to TT patents. We are not trying to copy TT so some of the features they have we are not looking to implement. We try to make the entire platform as customization as possible to try to please the majority but sometimes we have limitations regarding our structure and sometimes it is just a matter of prioritizing and finding the time to implement.

Thanks Brian

We are always open to new Exchanges but it it measured by customer demand. Since we host the system we do not charge the user or firm per exchange so we need to monitor the cost associated with adding another exchange. You can mention to your firm the additional exchanges you would like to see and we can survey all firms for their interest.

Thanks Brian

I'd like to be able to change the order type from Limit to Stop (eg) in order tickets when trading from the quote board. It seems I have to open a Contract Window (ladder) to do this.

@CTS1 Hi Brian,

1. Aside from simple OCO, are OCO trailing stops through Sierra also able to be stored server side on CTS?

2. Any plans or timeframe as to when you may be able to support server side auto OCO (before initial order is filled) through Sierra?

Add the Price type column to your order ticket. This drop down gives you the options for different price types.

You will need to ask Sierra regarding storing the OCO server side. We store our server side but if Sierra does not do that now then they need to write the necessary code in order to store these orders server side.

Thanks Brian

Hi Brian,

I appreciate your earlier comments about not wanting to imitate other vendors ladders.

With that in mind, how about adding some functionality not available in other ladders? I was thinking of a breakdown of the total volume column. If you could show a column of volume traded on/hitting the bid (ie sells) at each price, and another column showing what was traded on/hitting the offer (buys) at each price this could help traders a lot.

The reset total volume button I mentioned in another post to clear the total and begin counting again would also be beneficial.

With algo's being used more frequently to break up large orders, this would be quite useful.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Can somebody please provide me with CTS data (for intraday chart, CL July) with one month data, so I can patch my intraday data file? Since two days I use Sierra Chart with CTS and I have only data for these two days. It did not download more... whatever I tried... I'm thinking this has something to do with the data feed problems experienced on 6/10.

Or is there another solution, Brian @CTS1?

Thanks!

We don't send out the historical chart data but you could write to our API to retrieve the data. Have you tried refreshing your chart to see if the data comes in?

In Market History every update shows only cumulative volume for the tick price. Is it possible to change this behavior to "normal"? I mean, actual volume of every tick. I tried to play with settings, but without any success.

Hello, I asked MotiveWave if they can possibly add CTS as data provider/broker since CTS already provide free API access. Here's MotiveWave's response:
No, they don't have an API for a data feed. I'm aware of the API you mention below. It is for building an application on their back end platform, not for connecting to data.

We have talked to them before and they are not interested.
I see MotiveWave as a promising new platform, and would love to see the combo with CTS data. Would you mind sharing any reasons you're not interested in providing connection to MotiveWave?

Thank you

Main properties - contract - last trade - toggle volume to last trade (not total trade)

The downside of doing this is that the trade volume in the contract window will also then show each trades volume rather than an accumulation. It would be good it T&S data were separate I agree.

Is it possible to 'park' an order in the order book and submit it later somehow?

eg I may have a some orders I want to submit just before the close based on some condition. As the orders require parameter adjustments like GTC, Stop Limit etc they take too long to enter individually.

If I can set them up somehow, park them, then submit them with a click or 2 when/if needed it would be useful.

Given an order ticket from the quote window can hold several orders, maybe I could use that if there was the small modification of being able to submit only one of those orders - either from a right click on a highlighted order, or a button to submit all and another to submit selected???

Hello,

I noticed an alert when starting up Sierra Chart that advises CTS users to change the settings from "Fast Trade" to "Smart Trade".
I would like to know why we should use Smart Trade with Sierra Chart instead of Fast Trade. Is this only temporarily because you have problems with the bandwith? By the way, one of the things about CTS that attracts users, is unfiltered unbuffered data.

Thanks,

Malvolio

I am not getting my ICE feeds updating through CTS. Does anyone else have this issue?

I advised them off this about a week ago (if not longer), and havent heard any response regarding a workaround or any feedback. Just that "they recreated the issue".

I did not expect this from CTS. This is untradable.

If you subscribe to CTS premium (ie trade over 500 lots pcm), you get the unbuffered data/faster price feed. Maybe thats part of the issue?

As for the other gent with the issue with ICE - maybe give em a call. Ive always found their support staff to be pretty good.

Thank you for your answer. As far as I know this has to do with the new FIX connection from CTS that SierraChart uses, which still does not work properly.

I second this. The only think like this I've seen is jigsawtrading's tools, which aren't available for T4. Though, you'd think something like this would be simple enough to add to the DOM - we're basically tracking buy and sell market orders at each price, nothing more. T4 already partially does this (market orders are shown on the DOM as they execute, but they aren't totaled @ price). This would be a very valuable supplement to the general 'feel' from watching the DOM I already have.

I sent CTS an email about it, but haven't heard back yet.

As far as I know Jigsaw will offer a tool for CTS in the future with this functionality. But it would be great if CTS could implement this itself.

yea, I had heard that too - but that was like 6 months ago. I didn't even know it was possible to do something like that in T4 as a third party.

It's a professional-grade platform, so I don't think it's too far off base to request this DOM feature be available right "out of the box", even if it ends up being a bit more stripped down than what we suggested. Thanks for adding your support to this idea, btw

We have never spoken to MotiveWave but we have no issue providing them market data. The API we offer is the same one we use so yes market data is available.

Yes, we have an order type called "Q" for queued order. An Q order is help on our server until you activate it. If you decide not to activate you can cancel the order. This link shows all the order types. Order Types - CTS Wiki

Thanks Brian

I second this. The only think like this I've seen is jigsawtrading's tools, which aren't available for T4. Though, you'd think something like this would be simple enough to add to the DOM - we're basically tracking buy and sell market orders at each price, nothing more. T4 already partially does this (market orders are shown on the DOM as they execute, but they aren't totaled @ price). This would be a very valuable supplement to the general 'feel' from watching the DOM I already have.

I sent CTS an email about it, but haven't heard back yet.

The market history window will show the difference between hitting vs taking but we do not total the info. I can ask if that is possible.

As for the other gent with the issue with ICE - maybe give em a call. Ive always found their support staff to be pretty good.

Im in contact with them but to no avail, so far. I have never found that calling them was any more successful than emailing. YMMV.

Thanks, Brian. I do keep a market history window up, right next to my DOM so I can see more than what just traded, though at the speed at which market orders hit it only lets me see the past second or two most of the time (in ES, that is, with all the HFT's). The underlying theme is basically to see all market orders that have hit a given price, not just what's been going on in the last few seconds, in whatever way that may be accomplished. This would cut through a lot of the noise and spoofing games played on the DOM as well...

By the way, any eta on the next T4 version's release?

I appreciate it Mike. Maybe I will start reaching out to him directly. I dealt with a lot of different guys over there regarding this issue.

The fact a problem arises when they update the software on their end is totally understandable. An entire exchange being virtually un-tradable for over two weeks perplexes and worries me.

They must not have gotten many complaints about ICE, which further cements my opinion most of their customers are Chicago located ex-CME guys.

If you do not login during a calender month then there is no charge. If you login one time during the calender month the $25 applies.

Thanks Brian

@CTS1

Hi Brian, can I check with you if CTS T4 FIX datafeed is still in beta?

That means that if I wish to start a Combine with TopstepTrader and use Sierra Chart, can I use SC's latest version (v1077)? Or do I still have to use SC v997?

Hope to hear you soon on this..

Thanks!

The only way to get our historical daat is through the API. Here is a link to get you started. T4 API 4.0 - CTS Wiki
