I was getting some downtime on CQG SIM and contacted my broker and he said the following (which implies that SIM data server is not as reliable as the live one):

"CQG demo servers are separate from CQG live servers. The same historical data servers are used to populate the charts, but live trade route servers are separate..."

Interested to hear if anyone else has problems and if that is on SIM or live.

This is fairly normal, multiple brokers do this and fwiw I've seen sim data feed failures while the cash feed is working fine. While I think it is not incredibly smart of them, since someone is not able to fully evaluate the "real deal"... it is what it is.

That said, CQG has had multiple outages lately. So just be aware...

BTW, I think CQG is a very reputable company and generally highly regarded for their infrastructure. But outages are nasty business of course. The last one was pretty bad, a lot of users were effected and could not cancel open orders and could not even get ahold of their brokers (no one would answer phone) because so many people were calling.

It happens. You should always have a backup plan. But it has certainly happened to CQG more often than others recently, just solely based on the amount of people complaining about problems on the forum.

I do not personally use CQG, but to be honest, I wouldn't let the outage stop me unless it really became frequent. Just always have a solid backup plan, and should outages become more frequent then I would look to move elsewhere.

Check the various Amp threads. I am not sure if every single outage was posted to a thread or not, so check the Chatbox archives as well. Those only go back a month or so I think though. You can also check my twitter feed for the most recent one, I remember tweeting some assistance to help traders get out of open positions.

I am not anti-CQG. But it is only fair to mention their outages.

Well I wanted to find the most recent outage just so people don't think I was making it up.

April 9th, here is stuff from the chatbox. Time stamps are kinda backwards due to way I captured them, sorry.

We support 11+ brokerage/market data feeds and all of them fail from time to time, there is never 100% guaranteed uptime. The CQG outage of April 9th impacted a subset of users and not all users. What is important to NinjaTrader is that we have access to primary development and operational contacts at our premier feed partnerships which allow us to provide timely support to our user base including the members of futures.io (formerly BMT) as evidenced by my interaction on the live chat log. As Mike stated, having a backup plan is paramount for managing risk.

CQG sim servers are separate from live production servers. It is also true that the historical data servers are separate but shared among both live and production servers.

It's all good until you have a problem Live and it cost money....certainly frustrating in SIM but Live I'm sure if infinitely more frustrating.....experienced it in SIM and hope not to Live.
