Where you really see the importance of a good feed is when a market gets out of control with massive swings up and down. When markets crashed a few years ago I had zen fire and it performed very well. If you have a bad feed it will kill you in those conditions. I think some people think their feed is just fine until you get black swan moves in the market. Only problem I had was recently a lot of disconnects but moving to rithmic solved that issue. Don't know what the problem was with zenfire.

Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."

Ditto for what Big Mike said. It is my understanding zenfire runs the rithmic feed through its own servers. I found zenfire to be good most of the time but I started getting alot of disconnects. I switched to rithmic and it is much better it that regard.

But an odd thing, before I had RTrader actually installed on the PC.
NT used to connect to a different ZenFire IP address in the firewall.
Ever since I installed RTrader, it connect straight to the Rithmic one.
When I looked up the old IP it basically said zenfire it was in a totally different range.
Now the current IP says Rithmic.
So is there 2 different servers for this? One for Zen and one for Rithmic?

NinjaTrader fixed their connections a few months back, they were connecting to the wrong data server for a long time. Maybe that is what you are referring to.

Great blog post on the history of ZenFire vs Rithmic supposedly sourced from the CEO of ZF.

I have not verified this, but I will ask Pat if he wrote it.

@mattz is this how you see it?

@ThatManFromTexas thought you might be interested in this given your (and mine) history of intermittent disconnects from ZF - which I must say seem to have stopped recently.

I am using the The Zen-Fire feed for quite some time now. It is rock solid now and all the problems they had a year ago are gone.

I agree, the disconnect issue has diminished tremendously.

Glad to hear zen -fire has dealt with it's disconnect problems. I found it was a good feed until it started disconnecting several times a day. Having more choice of good feeds is good for traders.

I don't like the Rithmic Vs... because it makes me feel that I put competition down, especially one that I respect.
So I would like to talk about Rithmic on it's own.
Rithmic delivers institutional grade feed while and services small prop shops, hedge funds and retail customers.
The people who run Rithmic are highly skilled individuals and that allows me to separate our services as a brokerage from the technology side, therefore each party focuses on the important stuff. Also, there is no separation between institutional customers of Rithmic or retail. Essentially Rithmic institutional customers who do 100K RTs or retail that does 10 RTs a day get access to the same infrastructure.

Optimus came a little later to the space of discount brokers, and for the longest time it was hard and it still is to compete against feeds that have established such a strong precesdence in the retail industry. However, I feel that my choice of "pushing" rithmic has made a real difference for traders and their execution.

Lastly, since Rithmic is a technology based company, they will evolve with the times and keep providing Optimus and it's customers with the technology traders deserve. I respect EVERY single one of you who gets up in the morning and takes a risk on a trade, you deserve nothing but the best: service, feed and execution.

I thought the problems of delays of Zenfire during fast markets have been solved but no, the delays are back again. Very disappointing! I will switch to CTS T4 now.
