that's because TOS absorbed the fee, while other brokers pass it along to clients.

shots fired has TOS, according to his profile, and that's whats i was responding too. If he is getting charged on his TD account, he shouldn't be..

I have absolutely no idea about ToS, maybe they waive CME fees for clients who generate commissions. But with IB if you generate certain amount in commissions per month, you will be charged $5 only (which is their additional CME depth of market bundle) and they waive $10.

IB does not have genuine tick data, and the data feed comes without historical backfill for tick data.

I would consider that a special case.

Normally, you have to pay exchange fees to receive real-time data. The reason is that the exchanges are not set up as charitable trusts. .

Normally, you have to pay exchange fees to receive real-time data. The reason is that the exchanges are not set up as charitable trusts. Therefore you have to pay fees, if you wish to trade on an exchange.

You can buy a seat at an exchange or become a member. In that case you pay reduced fees, but you have paid for the seat.

Assuming that you are a not a member and that you qualify as a non-professional, you would have to pay the following fees

- exchange fees
- clearing fees
- regulatory fees
- commissions
- data fees

Exchange, clearing, regulatory fees and commissions are typically paid per contract.

Data fees are paid for the data that you receive.

Standard data fees for CME are

CME $ 91 per month
COMEX $ 91 per month
NYMEX $ 91 per month
CBOT $ 91 per month

which means that you would have to pay $ 364 for CME data per month without an account. This is just to fend off free riders that wish to receive data but do not intend to trade and generate transaction fees for the exchange.

If you have a funded account and connect to the account once per month, you are allowed to receive data for a bargain price of $ 15 instead of $ 364 per month.

You should not complain about that. If you cannot afford to spend $ 15 per month on data, you should not even think about trading futures.

Thank you for giving such a great summary. Now it is much clearer. I would have spent 3 weeks trying to gather and make sense of this information. Now it is very clear to me what all the fees people talk about mean, and where they are applied.

To avoid being charged for CME real-time data fee you have to cancel/suspend your CME bundle subscription (if you don't need it). But in this case you won't have the data feed in your platform. A cancellation has to be done prior to the 1st calendar day of the month you want to avoid the fees. Exchanges charge data fees in full per calendar month and those fees aren't prorated.

I see said the blind man. Thank you very much.

My profile is out of date. I haven't been to the forums since Shep was a pup. My broker is AMP. AMP also sent me an email explaining the $15 charge. Reading this thread made me understand why AMP is cheaper than ToS. (the latter has certain fees included, thus a higher round trip cost per contract).

I have Amp and they are charging me $15 a month.
Are there any brokers, besides ToS, that don't charge a monthly fee?

ToS have very high commissions that would cover most $15 a month charges (according to some guys we switched from there). All brokers get charged the $15 for all CME products, and they are charges that come from the exchanges directly. You can lower your fees if you reduce quotes and charts only to the products you trade (eliminate CBOT, for example if you do not trade Bonds, or reduce NYMEX if you do not trade CL), etc.

Next year the CME will charge $30 for quotes for all 4 exchanges as far as I know.

Correction: Retail stays at 15. Not 30.

Thanks,
Matt
