I have used Ninjatrader for a long time and I wanted to try out their brokerage because they have always had good support. So I have been trading with an IRA account for some time and have used the same custodian for years. When I tried to open a small account at NTB and told them I was using a different custodian. I was emailed a response :

I find this strange that Ninjatrader Brokerage would only allow the use of a single custodian. Am I missing something ? Since it seems like they would be cutting out a lot of people who have IRAs at places like MTrust.

I can't speak as to why they only allow Midland, but I can say that my own experiences with Midland (directly, on my own, not via NTB) have been excellent.

I am not saying anything about Midland. I only know one person that uses them and he says they are great. Well, now I know of two people I guess.

This is the first time I have had a broker use the term "must" with a particular custodian. I have seen "prefer" or "recommended", but they will usually work with any custodian. I know both the FCM they use will take different custodians, so I think I must be missing something.

Math. A gateway drug to reality.

I imagine that @NT Brokerage will reply on Monday and let us know why.

This is not correct and apologize for the miscommunication from our team. The final approval of all accounts, including IRAs, is done by the FCM but we accept IRAs from many custodians. We do recommend Midland because we have an excellent relationship with them and the feedback from customers is positive. I have PM'd you to assist further.

Risk Disclosure: Futures and forex trading involves significant risk of loss and is not appropriate for everyone.

It probably was just mis communication because everyone was rushing to get home for the holidays. Thanksgiving week is always hectic.

Thanks for the response and happy holidays.

I apologise in advance if this has been implicitly addressed already - I could not find it as a simple answer throughout this thread.

I have an active CQG login (data connection) which I use with CQG's proprietary trading platform QTrader.

I followed the instructions at CQG Connection Guide | NinjaTrader to download the free version of NT7 but I seem unable to connect.

My question is, does the NT7 (or NT8 for that matter) free license allow connection via my CQG login?

No. CQG is your live connection. Free ninja is only for SIM and evaluation purposes.

Are you sure?

I have a free version of NT (had it for years) and I can trade Live with it.

I just thought the free version had features stripped out of it eg you can't use Chart Trader and you can't edit or create indicators etc.

@xplorer - who is your broker? It maybe that you need Continuum credentials, which is just a white label of CQG, but is the version NT Brokerage promoted on the downfall of ZenFire.

to clarify podski, I'm not looking to trade live via NT, just to get the market data.

So I could use the SIM but with live data. Just thought to ensure we're using the same vocabulary
