Please share the experience you've had with Kineticks, especially if you are also using OFA softwares and Mirus Futures as broker.

I've been having lots of random disconnections with IQfeed, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with my PC or internet connection (very stable 60MB/s) because I never had a disconnection from ZenFire so far.

Therefore, before I give Kinetick a try, I'd like to know your experience with it, i.e. stability, accuracy, etc.

Thank you very much.

John

I see that you use NT 7; I don't know if you have the same issues as I had, but I tried the DTN IQFeed for two full months on my ninjatrader 7 platform, and it was complete crap!
On top of it being more expensive than Kinetick, I couldn't get any real use of it as it kept disconnecting and dropping, and freezing my NT7 platform all together.

It turned out that it was a problem with their newer versions of IQFeed Client not compatible with the current releases of NT 7.

I had to use an old version (4.7.1.3 if I am not mistaken) which do not support the CME Waiver program, and that was out of the question for me to continue like this for long.

Needless to say, I wasn't going to change platform either, so I cancelled my subscription to IQFeed, and reverted back to Kinetick. It is the same provider after all, same servers, etc... but never had a single issue with Kinetick betraying me even during periods of high market activity on news release or events.

This is not to say that I didn't like DTN IQFeed as a data provider, I did in fact enjoy the extra gimmicks they offer, and did like how it connected to my Matlab package and Excel, news feed, and so on... But in the end I didn't have real use of it in NT7 which is my main platform and purpose for subscribing to a real-time data feed service.

The only thing I miss on Kinetick is the ICEUS futures exchange which they do not offer, otherwise, I have no complaint at all, and amazing customer service!
It would have been nice to be able to connect kinetick feed to other softwares and packages, that's perhaps another thing that I miss, but that's really the lowest of my priorities as a trader and won't pay extra cash for this feature.

Hi Fadi,

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I'm really glad to hear that at least Kinetick is stable, and that I'm not the only one having problems with IQfeed.

I've tried IQfeed 5.0, the most current 5.1, and they are both problematic. I contacted them regarding this issue and I never receive any solid answer, the best reply I got was actually from NinjaTrader, which asked to to send them a log, then they told me to try to reinstall IQfeed. Unfortunately the problem remains.

OFA kept saying that IQ feed is the best, but I simply don't believe that they can consistently trade with IQfeed data.

Try IQFeed Client version 4.7.1.3, you can still find it on the web (a simple google search will do)
I am sure you will be surprised how stable it turns out to be, but you lose the newsfeed and you lose the CME waiver check

IQFeed is generally regarded as the best feed available for retail traders. Kinetick is a version of IQFeed specifically built for NinjaTrader. If you use only NinjaTrader, it is the good option. If you use multiple platforms, IQFeed is the better choice.

I have used it for a number of years without any issues, 24/7.

Point of clarification: If you use anything besides NT, including DDE for Excel, you are outside the license for Kinetick, it is to be used with NT only.

That said, from a technical perspective, Kinetick and IQFeed use the EXACT same servers. Any perceived differences are due to a small sample set.

I saw this thread on the home page and picked up on it because recently I have been experiencing disconnects from IQFeed. I run a program called Ping Plotter Pro, which is basically a glorified traceroute tool. Here is what I found:

It looks like problems start at the border of Level 3 and CosentryNet's routers. (hop 23)

The problem is intermittent, as you can see from the bottom of the image.

I sent this to IQFeed and they told me that it was their 'guess' that the problem was not due to their servers. Well maybe, but Cosentry is about 2 doors down from IQFeed in Omaha, Nebraska. I figure they probably know each other and would take a bet they are subsidiaries of the same company.

But before I pursue the issue further, if anyone else has connection issues, please let me know. I'd like to know I'm not the only one having issues.

Thanks,
-Bob

I use Kinetick + IB + NT7 for live trading. About a year ago I had some issues with Kinetick with random disconnect for few seconds about once or twice per day. NT support confirmed that the issue was with the Kinetick adapter and the alternative was to use IQ feed which I have done without any issues. Recently I decided to give another try to Kinetick and so far I haven't experienced the issues I had before.

This is what I would have written, but I am late to the party.

Bob,

I am in Hong Kong and do have annoying random Kinetick disconnections. Been told the problem is likely due to dynamic IP but treat that as rubbish as most of Asia is on dynamic IPs. Happens several times a week.

'Only' went down once yesterday, but some days it will go out several times in quick succession and force a Ninja restart. I use IB for broker so have to restart that too which is a pain of course.

I have also been told to use the DQN client by others who have had problem but not tried it yet.

Well done on the trace-routing. That is exactly what can show that this issue has a clear problem area.

I have once had connection problems with US servers, and I could trace it down to a bottleneck of my internet provider. To identify the problem, I used ping plotter freeware. The problem occured with all connections passing through a Deutsche Telekom server located near Nuremberg, which was connected to a transatlantic line operated by NTT, which was the actual bottleneck.

There are too many people now watching youtube videos at the same time, which causes occasional traffic jams on some of the backbones.
