What do you use to ping test?

I am using a cable connection here locally 20m down 1m up. To Chicago 5m down 2m up. After reading the NT forums one thing concerned me.

A user there stated "AMP has $100 / month subscription available that's suppose to be a more direct route to the exchange, I have to wonder if they deliberately make a weak connection to force people into a paid connection?" Connection Problems AMP / [AUTOLINK]CQG[/AUTOLINK] - anyone - [AUTOLINK]NinjaTrader[/AUTOLINK] Support Forum

Has anyone contacted Amp and can confirm that they are pushing this? I have not received anything from them nor have I called, yet...

I used speedtest.net for up and down speeds. My windows ping to the cqg servers show 146ms, slow but data is coming across the pacific ocean...

We'll see how tomorrow goes and if I continue to disconnect I will be calling...

I am placing my connectivity problems squarely on my necessary use of a wireless connection
via iPhone / Verizon until proven other wise.

Old info is of no use.

My Ping to a random Chicago server was 157ms.... usable for me.

speed is not my issue, however.

I can't stay connected either, even after switching ISPs. My new connection is a faster 20 mb and still drops out from time to time. Sometimes it's the price feed and then sometimes it's the broker connection. AMP was useless in trying to resolve the issue, Ninjatrader were helpful and interested, even got kinetic involved...IQFEED was better in that it stayed connected but it would lag and the level II would go out of sync....

I've quit intraday trading until I can fix it.

I also have these problems with live amp/ cqg and demo cqg/amp on separate computer.

Direct line with DSL, I cant remember the speeds right now.

I also use multicharts on another computer with cqg and amp, and that never disconnects. If it does, it connects again immediately.

Amp support ? I dont bother.
Ninja support ? send us your log and trace files

Multicharts support is very good for me

Thats interesting that MC isn't much of an issue. As i understand all price feeds go through NTs server first, that where i keep getting disconnected, according to when i do a "traceroute".

This is not true, all feeds do not go through our servers first, they connect directly to the source. For CQG, we connect directly to CQG streaming data servers but connect to NinjaTrader managed servers co-located in CQG data centers for historical data.

With respect to tderrick, his connection issue stems from the fact that he is using an iPhone through Verizon mobile carrier for his internet connection which is a less than desirable set up.

I am not aware of any such alternate connection, all CQG users through NinjaTrader are routed to the same CQG global network.

If you are having connection issue, please send email to our support attention to RayD referencing this post, I can have CQG to a traceroute to look at your connection.

would it be better if he uses iphone to open a teamview/gotomeeting session to control his desktop instead?
