It's all good until you have a problem Live and it cost money....certainly frustrating in SIM but Live I'm sure if infinitely more frustrating.....experienced it in SIM and hope not to Live.

Absolutely more frustrating live. The point is that you will experience an outage live regardless of feed that you use. Just expect that. It's the plan you have to manage these situations that will help mitigate risk. In electronic trading, there are many points of failure including your own hardware, internet, feed, the exchanges and any internet route in between. For example, Eurex had some issue for a short period of time earlier today.

@Big Mike thanks for the log I updated one of the AMP/CQG connection loss threads with a good tip from Beljevina to cancel orders via the webportal. I was unaware of this option until now

They monitor the dataline and manage the content of the feeds we take from the different exchanges across the globe. Glista, please let us know what assurances/guarantees are there for those of us using CQG in a live trade who suffer losses due to CQG going down as outlined here.

@NinjaTrader

Hi Ray, was this Eurex outage around 3.13am USA ET on 26 April (Thursday)?

I am just wondering if that explains a 'Lost Connection' message I got in my NT log.

The lost connection lasted only a few seconds but occured 3 times around this time.

I had the FDAX up as one of my charted instruments at the time together with other CME based instruments.

I don't recall the exact time but this was independant of Zen-Fire infrastructure or any other provider and would not have caused you to disconnect temporarily from Zen-Fire servers.

Big Mike, I have already provided the supporting details above to our commitment to our data quality. I am not interested in bantering back and forth about misconceptions or an extremely rare outage.

CQG has been providing professional traders market data and trade routing for over 30 years. Our services are used by prime brokerages and FCM around the world. I am willing to provide technical information to any CQG customer about our disaster recovery and redundancy.

If you have any questions about CQG please send me a private message.

I wouldn't mind learning more about the April 9 issues as well. Did it only impact ninja/cqg users or we're users equally impacted?

I did not realize this prior to purchasing an NT license:

NT basically has one broker partner per data feed company. For example, if you want CQG you pretty much must go with AMP, if you want Rithmic Optimus, if you want ZenFire Mirus, etc.

NT claims this is a result of various partnership agreements with brokers/clearing firms and once the technology integration has been done it basically closes off that data feed to others (with some limited exceptions). My understand is that this generally goes against industry standard practices of other charting software providers.

Of course, you can buy your own data feed but the broker/NT partnership has an advantage since the data feed cost is generally rolled into the broker fees (a bit like bundling and imho anti-competitive).

Traders Technologies seems to be the exception (like a quasi catch-all) for those not in good with NT. For various reasons (stated on other threads on this Forum) TT has many limitations that make it not comparable with the above mentioned data feeds. Therefore there are some great, inexpensive brokers that would be great to work with along with NT but the data feed "problem" puts them at a disadvantage. Just wanted to let folks know who don't to understand that issue prior to making a trading software purchase.

Also, all data feeds are not equal in relation to NT future development, as future planned NT features seem to be only targeted to one preferred data feed (which also means one preferred broker).

As a "valued" NT customer, I called NT to find out the details and express my displeasure with this approach and my suggestions. If you do it too we could make a difference.

Hope this helps.
